Chapter 1: Pulling a Reverse-Isekai

Subaru Natsuki couldn't help but glare at the couple walking down the street from out the convenience store window. Life was unfair. Why couldn't he get a girlfriend?

Oh, right, 'cause he was a loser, that's why.

As if a hot girl was just gonna magically appear and do everything he wants.

Yeah, right, he scoffed at the back of his head. Like that would ever happen.

As he paid for his ramen and chips, Subaru headed out, walking down the street. Though, he could help but feel like he was being watched... Then again, he was probably just tired.

"Probably nothing…" he said. "May as well get on Steam and see what to play…"

Meanwhile, on an entirely different plane of existence, a silver-haired woman was watching Subaru within the darkness of her seal. This was the moment she had been waiting for.

Satella took a deep breath. "Alright... it's time."

"Yesss…" the Witch of Envy said, deep within Satella's mind.

"Just let him get adjusted first," the amethyst-eyed half-elf told the malevolent voice in her head. "We can't risk him being scarred for life and unable to fulfill our wishes."

"Fine. Just… send him to the Capital!"

The silver-haired woman rolled her eyes. "Alright, alright, just give me a moment... we're galaxies away from Earth, if not entire universes, so I can't afford any interruptions, got it?"

Satella concentrated on the spell, as the mana powered up. She wanted Subaru. She wanted to be with him again. She wanted to tell him how much she loved him. She wanted Subaru —

Satella immediately grunted when she felt something stopping her, and it wasn't Envy.

"What's going on?!" Envy hissed.

"I don't know! It's like something's trying to stop me from bringing Subaru to Lugunica!"

"TRY HARDER!!!" Envy roared at Satella.

"WHAT DO YOU THINK I'M DOING, BITCH?!"

"NOT ENOUGH, APPARENTLY!!!"

Back on Earth, Subaru suddenly started feeling extremely nauseous and sick.

"Fuck, guess I have insomnia…" the nasty-eyed teen groaned.

While Satella was trying her best to summon her beloved, she didn't notice her desperation was causing her magic to spread out of her seal. Not just to Suabru, but to her entire world…

Felt watched her target walking around the Capital. Her insignia was in her pocket. All she needed to do was get her opening, dash in, and grab it, and those coins were all hers.

However, right when Felt was about to jump in to snag it, the entire capital began to shake, causing many citizens to start shouting, for children to start crying, to panic overall.

"WHAT THE HELL?!"

"LOOK! THE SKY!!!"

Everyone soon noticed dark clouds with violet lightning quickly covering the entire sky.

"IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD!!!"

It wasn't just the Capital, or even Lugunica. The entire world was being covered by the darkness, with the cause of said darkness still unaware of what she was doing.

"Come on, come on…" Satella poured in all of the power she had into this spell. Without even noticing, she herself was engulfed in this darkness she had created, and then…

"AL SHAMAK!!!"

Finally, the entire world of the Od Laguna... blinked out of existence.

In an instant, the purple lightning disappeared from the sky, and, like a switch, the day had shifted into a night with unfamiliar stars, and the continent was now surrounded by water.

Not that Satella noticed just yet.

"Oh my Od…" she gasped, exhausted from what she did. "Did it work...?"

"No," the Envy personality said. "He's close… but not yet."

The half-elf raised an eyebrow at that. "What do you mean "not yet"?"

"You fucked up the spell. You brought the world to him, not the other way around."

Satella's eyes widened as she quickly summoned a projection of the world outside her prison, only to see the whole continent was now smack-dab in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

They were on Earth.

"...Oops."

Meanwhile, back in Japan, Subaru was walking back home, as the ground began to shake. Great, first his sudden headache that went away as fast as it came, and now this.

"What the hell is going on tonight...?"

Before he could ask any more questions to himself, however, Subaru and anyone else within the area was subjected to a familiar sound. Government emergency sirens.

"ATTENTION! THIS IS AN EMERGENCY PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT!" one of the nearby city loudspeakers started to blare. "A TSUNAMI IS APPROACHING THE JAPANESE MAINLAND! GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS ARE ADVISING EVERYONE TO SEEK SHELTER!"

"A tsunami...?!"

Subaru quickly looked around, as he saw everyone else on the street running in a panic, from couples holding hands as they ran, and delinquents helping the elderly get to the nearest shelters. Hell, the guy from the convenience store Subaru was at was in the crowd.

Looks like this wasn't some prank. He had to get to safety – Wait...

THE HOUSE HE LIVED IN WAS NEAR THE COAST!!!

"Shit!" Subaru cursed, as he started running the opposite direction. "MOM! DAD!"

Meanwhile, Satella was pacing around her shadowy domain, as she knew she had to do something. Millions of people were about to lose their lives because of her reckless desperation.

And Subaru and his parents would be among them.

"Grab him!" Envy shouted in the back of her mind. "Now's your chance!"

"And risk his parents and millions of others dying?! No way!"

Envy groaned, but relented. "Fine, we'll fix it! But grab him first!"

Satella quickly did as she was told, opening a portal right under Subaru, which led him to the Capital of Lugunica. Once he was safe, Satella used all her remaining power to raise shadow barriers around the coasts of every continent in the crossfire of the tsunami.

"Come on, work, work, work…"

She wasn't used to pushing her powers to such a degree, and it was only thanks to her immortality she knew she would survive the strain. However, it didn't mean it wasn't painful. She could feel the several tons of force from the waves hitting her shadows, each and every slam making her want to collapse in pain, but she refused, keeping the barriers standing.

"WORK, DAMMIT!!!" Satella screamed at the top of her lungs. Pushing herself to her limit, she successfully raised the barriers to stop the crashing waves… which had now died down.

"Oh, that fuck, I actually did it…" she whispered, as she collapsed to the floor in exhaustion. It has been a long time since she was actually able to save lives… it felt… good.

Envy, meanwhile, had noticed something else. "Hmm…?"

"What...?" Despite being tired as all hell, Satella knew she had to ask.

"I am sensing the one who hates us stabilizing the ground beneath our world…"

"Hates us...?" Satella repeated. "You mean the Od Laguna...?"

"Yesss…" Envy hissed, as if that name itself was a curse. "It's manipulating the ocean floor, creating a foundation… to stop the continent from sinking beneath the waves…"

Satella groaned, getting up from the floor. "Dammit... we got lucky…"

"I'd consider this a success."

"We nearly added ten million more people to our body count!" Satella shouted at the voice in her head. "Including Subaru and his parents! I wouldn't call that a success!"

"He's here, isn't he?"

Satella sighed. "I hate that all you care about is him…"

Subaru, meanwhile, had no idea what hell was going on.

One minute, he was in the middle of the street, running home, the next, he was in some unfamiliar, medieval-looking place, full of panicking fantasy characters.

"What the hell?!" he whispered to himself. "Where am I?!"

"Everyone, please, calm down!" some green-haired dude called out to the scared crowds. "The knights and the Council are assessing the situation as we speak! Please, do not panic!"

Yeah, no, Subaru didn't have the time to figure out what he had found himself in the middle of. He immediately got out his phone, hoping to call his parents. "The hell? Only one bar?!"

Hopefully, that would be enough...

He tried to dial their number, but as he was going to do that…

SLAM!

…someone crashed into him.

"Ow!" Subaru crashed down, as… a silver-haired beauty was now laying on top of him. Every other emotion he was feeling stopped as he stared at her amethyst eyes. "Uh... hi?"

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" the silver-haired lady said. "I didn't see where I was going –"

"No, it's alright!" Subaru squeaked out, waving his hands around.

"Here, let me help you up," the girl said, as she got off of Subaru and took one of his hands, pulling him back up. Subaru, meanwhile, was overwhelmed by the smoothness of her –

"Careful, Lia. I don't trust him."

"YOWZA!" Subaru yelped when he saw… a floating cat. "What the hell is that?!"

"Puck, don't scare him like that!" the girl scolded the flying feline.

Subaru didn't know why he was seeing what he was, but he figured it was probably best to ignore it, for now. "Okay... weird floating cat aside, can you tell me where I am, miss?"

The silver-haired girl gave him a funny look. "The Capital of Lugunica…?"

"Lugunica? What, is that a country city in Europe?"

"Europe?"

"Look, I was just in Japan a moment ago when all this shaking happened, I don't know how I got here, and I don't know if my parents are alright because of that tsunami!"

The silver-haired woman looked at him confused, but jumped when someone ran into her. A blonde girl wearing minimal clothing. "What the –?! Hey! My insignia!"

Oh, wonderful, Subaru thought to himself. His only lead on where the hell he was just got robbed. He figured he'd try to stop the blonde girl from slipping away into the crowd –

BUMP!

"Stop right there, miss."

…but that didn't happen when she ran into the chest of a red-haired guy.

"HEY! Lemme go!" the little blonde shouted, as she tried to kick the redhead, but to not avail. Even Subaru could see that their size difference alone gave the dude a huge advantage. He was basically holding the thief by their scruff, like someone would a kitten.

As the little blonde kept trying to fight him off, the redhead looked over at Subaru and the silver-haired lady. Or, more accurately, just the lady. "Emilia-sama, are you alright?"

"Oh, Reinhard!" the lady, who now Subaru knew was Emilia, exclaimed.

"It would seem this one tried to snatch your insignia, but I caught her doing so," Reinhard said, as he tried to take this "insignia" thing from the thief, who struggled to keep her hands closed. Reinhard pried them open, and Subaru saw something inside them glowing red…

The redhead gasped, as did Emilia. "It cannot be…"

"What the fuck is going on…?" Subaru asked, feeling kinda left out. He then remembered he had to call his parents, and decided to worry about whatever this was later. Subaru looked down at his phone… and saw that he wasn't able to get his call through. "Dammit!"

This place had poor reception. Getting desperate, Subaru looked towards the text option of his phone. Maybe he could get a message to his folks through there? "Please work…"

Subaru typed a quick message, clicked "send," and then…

Message sent.

"Oh, thank God…"

Message read.

Subaru breathed a sigh of relief, seeing his parents saw the message. Around that same time, he saw a purple-haired guy and girl with... cat ears… running over to Emilia and Reinhard.

"Wonder who those guys are…" At the very least, maybe he could get some more info and find out where he was and how to get home. Doing his best to act as casual as he could, the nasty-eyed teen walked towards the group, picking up a part of their conversation.

"…there's a good chance that the Council will summon everyone involved with the Royal Selection to discuss what has happened," the purple-haired man said.

"Hey, Julius, you think... the Witch caused this...?" the catgirl asked.

Reinhard shook his head. "Felix, we cannot be certain of that…"

As Subaru memorized their names, Puck continued the conversation. "I can't think of another being capable of shaking the whole world like that... and the dark clouds didn't help."

"Mm. Another important matter of note… I found the final Royal Candidate," the redhead said, gesturing towards the blonde. "I took the liberty of asking for her name… Felt."

Subaru had no idea what that meant, but given the way the four others gasped while staring at Felt, it must have been important. Hell, even Felt seemed to be in shock. "I'm WHAT?!"

"The Royal Insignia confirmed it," Reinhard said.

"Well, un-confirm it! I don't want any part in this stupid Royal Selection crap!"

"I am afraid I don't have the power to do that."

As Subaru half-listened to what they were saying, the tracksuit-wearing teen looked up towards the night sky, and closely examined the stars. "Yeah… This is definitely Earth…"

"Hm?" Reinhard looked over at Subaru. "What did you say?"

"...Where am I? Really? What country, or even continent, am I in?"

"…You're in the Dragon Kingdom of Lugunica," the purple-haired man, Julius, said. "It's the easternmost nation on the continent… the sole continent in the world."

"Yeah, I would believe you, if it wasn't for the fact that A. There are seven continents on Earth, and B. I have never heard of Lugunica before, or whatever continent this is."

"Seven…?" Felix, the catgirl… boy… whatever, repeated. "Is this guy crazy?"

"He speaks the truth... the Divine Protection of Wind Reading did not trigger."

Puck nodded along to what Reinhard said, before saying, "So, he is crazy!"

"I probably am, considering I'm seeing a talking, floating cat!" Subaru hissed.

"I'm not a cat, I'm a Great Spirit."

"...Like a ghost?" Subaru asked.

"…No, like a being of pure mana," Puck said, as if that was completely normal.

"Mana...? You mean like magic? Okay, now I know someone drugged me."

Julius looked over to the catboy in the dress. "Felix, could you… examine him?"

Felix walked up to Subaru, and much to the nasty-eyed teen's shock, the catboy's hand began to glow, using legitimate magic on him. "Hmm... he seems healthy, physically and mentally…"

"So, then, does he genuinely believe what he told us? Maybe he lacks a basic education?"

"I went to school!" Subaru snapped at Reinhard.

Emilia nodded. "He does look like a noble…"

"Sir... may I ask who you are and where you come from?" Julius asked Subaru.

"My name's Subaru Natsuki, and I was coming from my house," the tracksuit-wearing teen said, his voice full of sarcasm. "I was just going out for some snacks, when… this shit happened."

"And your home is located… where?" Reinhard asked.

"Suburbs of Tokyo, Japan."

"Truth," the red-haired knight said.

"…What the hell kind of place is that?" Felt asked.

"...I believe I may have a hypothesis," Julius said.

At this point, Subaru was desperate for anything. "Shoot."

Julius nodded, as he looked over to his red-haired friend. "Reinhard, could you perhaps get a high view from above, specifically eastward, past the Augria Sand Dunes."

"Certainly, give me a moment." Reinhard handed Felt to Julius, and crouched down. Then, in an instant, Reinhard jumped... very, very, very high up. There wasn't even a sonic boom.

"What. The. Absolute. Fuck," Suabru said. After a minute of waiting, Reinhard then landed in front of them, with a shocked expression on his face. "What the hell?! Are you some kind of Superman?! How the heck did you do that, and how are none of you freaking out?!"

"Reinhard does possess unnatural strength as the Sword Saint, far more than any of his ancestors, but it is well known," Julius said, completely unfazed by what happened.

Reinhard, meanwhile, didn't seem alright. "Another clue to this mystery…"

"What did you see?" Julius asked his friend.

"…The void from beyond the Great Waterfall is gone," Reinhard said, his voice almost sounding scared. "We're surrounded by the water on all sides. Well… for the most part."

"For the most part...?" Felix asked.

"When I was investigating the area, I went a bit further. I jumped high into the air and did a quick search of our neighboring nations, as well. I saw something out there."

"What was it?"

"West, towards Kararagi, beyond the water that surrounds us now… I could barely see it from the horizon, but it was there. I saw land. And lights… thousands of them."

"You mean city lights?" Subaru asked.

Reinhard looked over to Subaru. "Do lights that bright exist?"

"Yeah, you can see them in orbit, mostly at night…"

"WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!"

"Huh?" Subaru and the others turned their heads to see the green-haired man from before. Given how everyone else reacted, he seemed to be their boss, Subaru figured.

"Nyah! Captain Marcos!" Felix yelped, saluting. Looks like Subaru was right.

Reinhard cleared his throat. "Captain Marcos, I can explain –"

"That you're all standing around while there's a nation-wide emergency going on?"

"Apologies, Captain, but we are investigating, I assure you," Julius reassured his commanding officer. "We have valuable insight regarding both the Royal Selection and the current crisis."

Marcos paused, seemingly no longer angry. "Truly? How?"

"I jumped into the clouds at Julius' behest," the red-haired knight said. "The void beyond the Great Waterfall is no more, replaced by water that exceeds the land in distance."

"So, we're trapped in some kind of endless lake with an eternal night?"

"No, sir," Reinhard said, as he shook his head at Marcos' assumption. "I saw more land in the distance, west of Kararagi. The continent of Od Laguna is not the only landmass anymore."

"How far away is this… landmass?" Marcos asked.

"Approximately four nations away," Reinhard answered.

"So, at least two of our old worlds' away, horizontally speaking. Wonderful."

"Moreover... I believe we are in the presence of such an otherworlder."

Marcos stared Julius square in the eyes, before slowly asking, "…What?"

Julius gestured to Subaru. "This young man, Subaru Natsuki, has no knowledge of Lugunica, not even knowing of its existence before now. He claims to be from a nation known as Japan."

"Japan? Where is that?" Marcos asked Subaru.

"Uhm... if you had a map of Earth, it would be one of the easternmost nations in the world."

"So, we're currently in the center of the world? Given how we aren't near the edge…"

"If this continent really is supposed to be another world… but I'm still on Earth…" Subaru ignored Felix's question, as he suddenly connected the dots. "Oh, crap…"

"What is it?" Reinhard asked.

"I think... your world got transported to mine."

Marcos, along with the rest of the group, were silent, as Subaru kept talking to himself. "If there's water on all sides, the best guess is we're probably in the Pacific Ocean…"

"Is that the center of your world?" Felix asked.

"Technically, there is no center. Not on the surface, at least. I don't know how your world works, but Earth is a sphere," the nasty-eyed teen said, as everyone stared at him in shock.

"…Your world is a what?" Julius asked.

"Look, I'll try to explain the details later, but if I'm right, then all the nations of my world are currently panicking like crazy, and that is not good at all," Subaru said.

Emilia tilted her head in confusion. "Huh? Why is that?"

"Our world freaks out over the smallest and sometimes stupidest of things," the Japanese teenager said. "Imagine an entire continent suddenly appearing out of nowhere."

"Alright, that does it. Knights, detain this man, we'll require further information."

"Wait, what?!" Subaru shouted at what the green-haired knight said.

"If what you're saying is true, then the Council of Elders and the nobility need to be informed of this," Marcos said. "In the meantime, you will be relocated and placed under security."

Reinhard nodded. "I will place Subaru under my watch in the meantime."

"Mm." Marcos nodded, before looking over at Felt. "And who is the… child?"

"The last of the Royal Candidates, as recognized by the Royal Insignia."

"Her?" Marcos looked at Reinhard, as if asking if he was serious. "Truly?"

"I was a witness," the Sword Saint said.

"…Fine," the green-haired knight said. "Take them both to your home."

"Understood." Before Subaru had time to say something, Reinhard put his hand in front of Subaru's face, glowing, and the Japanese boy instantly passed out.

Author's Note: Dropped another mini-series! Also, if the continent of Od Laguna is the same square area of Europe, (4.066 miles squared), and Kararagi is still in the west, then how close would the entire continent have to be to Japan in order for Lugunica to be technically closer to Japan than the United States? Lemme know next time!
