The Night We Met

Work Text:

Waking up early in the morning, Sunoo's first move was to message Jake on Instagram. Writing to each other first thing in the morning had become a bit of a tradition for them, although it could already be called a habit. And Alpha replied quickly; they were lucky that the time difference between Brisbane and Seoul was only an hour, but they were unlucky with the distance. More than 7,000 kilometers and 12 hours on a plane. In all five years of living together, they had never managed to meet.
When Sunoo turned 20, Jake wanted to fly to see him, but couldn't because the university wouldn't allow it. Citing upcoming exams, he was forbidden from missing classes. They even threatened to expel him if he missed even one.
The alpha was so angry at the university and the teachers who were pressuring him from all sides that he couldn't take it anymore and burst into tears right in the middle of his conversation with Sunoo. He told him everything while sitting on a video call and crying loudly in his dorm room. Sunoo didn't hang up, but listened silently and then calmly reassured him. As soon as Jake calmed down, the omega showered him with kind words about how strong Jake was and what a wonderful alpha he was. In the end, Jake smiled shyly at the omega's words and covered his face with the collar of his sweatshirt.
That morning, when Jake answered him, Sunoo called him on video chat, and they started getting ready for university together.
At the gates of his university, the omega blew a kiss to the camera, smiled, and Jake waved goodbye in response and kissed the camera again before ending the call.
Entering the lecture hall where the first class was held, he quickly hugged his girlfriend. He sat down next to her, and she immediately took out her phone and began sharing the rumors she had heard over the weekend.
“So you're saying that our psychology teacher slept with a freshman and ended up pregnant by him?”
Winter nodded and tossed a strand of blonde hair behind her back.
“But that's not all,” the girl closed one account to switch to the freshman's account. “She's having twins.”
Slowly turning his head toward Omega, he asked again.
"What? She's having twins? When did she find out?“ ”Just this Monday.“ Omega grimaced but continued. ”You think they slept together this weekend, right?"
“Yes, but there's another delightful piece of gossip that her ex-best friend told me.” Winter smiled mysteriously and scrolled through the girl's stories. “She's already four months pregnant, and we've only been studying together for two months.” Omega closed her phone and placed it on the table.
After a short pause, they answered simultaneously.
“She wants to shift the responsibility for her pregnancy onto him.”
Hearing each other, they laughed and decided to discuss the gossip over lunch after their second class.

In the second class, he was told that he had passed his sociology exam and could leave. The sociology exam was the last one before the holidays. So, realizing that he was free, Sunoo went to see the university president. In the first class, he realized that he wanted to fly to Australia to see his boyfriend and make him happy. He wanted to give him the watch that Alpha wanted so much.
Since last year, Jake had been saying that he wanted to buy himself an expensive Iconic Chronograph Link Onyx watch in black with the same strap but with a gold insert. Sunoo had a watch of the same brand as Alpha's. Only Omega watches were elegant and beautiful. His gold Quardo Link Everglov always pleased Omega's eye, especially when Sun remembered that Jake had given it to him for his birthday. Omega kept asking Alpha how much his watch cost, and when he heard the price — 400 Australian dollars — and converted it into won, he scolded Alpha for a long time. He yelled at him, asking how he could have spent 380,000 won on him. But in the end, he calmed down and thanked Alpha for a long time without taking off the watch.
After taking one last look at the watch, he decided on a gift: he would buy the very damn watch that his Alpha wanted so much. It didn't matter that it cost 550,000 won, the main thing was that his Jake was happy.
Before going to the principal's office, Sunoo knocked a couple of times and entered. Seeing him, the principal nodded and gestured for him to sit down. Putting down his papers, Beta nodded that he was listening.
“Director Kang, I would like to ask you to let me leave early for vacation. I passed all my exams with flying colors.” Director Kang nodded and continued listening. "If you need a reason, here it is: I've been dating Alpha for five years, and in a couple of days it's his birthday. All this time that we've been dating... we haven't been able to see each other in person, so I'm begging you. Please let me leave early for vacation."
After listening to him, Director Kang nodded, took out Sunoo's personal file, and wrote something down.
“I'm letting you leave early because I understand you. I was in the same situation when I was young. So you're free to go, but after this class, which, by the way, isn't over yet. So sit in the cafeteria for 20 minutes, and then you can go.”
Delighted, Sunu quickly thanked Director Kang and hurried to the door of the office.

But at the last moment, Director Kang called out to Sunoo:
“Show me the photos later.”
Omega nodded energetically and ran away. Feeling the sweet aroma of peaches intensify, he smiled and returned to his papers.

Twenty-five minutes later, Winter approached him and said that she had also passed the exam with flying colors, which made both omegas very happy. In the end, they decided not to have lunch at the cafe, but to go to a coffee shop and buy coffee and cake there.
Upon entering the coffee shop, Winter asked the omega to sit down while she placed their order. Sunoo decided not to get bored while waiting for Winter and wrote to the alpha. He replied in a couple of minutes, apologizing for not being able to answer right away because he was at practice and couldn't take his phone. Sunoo sent him a sticker with a kiss. As soon as he put his phone down, Winter approached him with two cups of coffee and sweets. Taking his drink, and as soon as he brewed it, he remembered something. Slamming the coffee down on the table, he grabbed his phone and checked his email.
Winter flinched and coughed.
“Why are you scaring me? What's wrong?”
“Remember I told you I wanted to fly to Australia to see Jake?”
“I remember, so what?” The girl calmly took another sip.
“Well, the next day I applied for ET.”
Winter raised an eyebrow questioningly and asked, stirring her drink with a spoon.
“What is ET?”
“Electronic visa to Australia,” the omega replied quickly. He jumped up and closed his eyes. “I'm afraid you'll open it.”
Sunu handed the phone to the girl, who put down her spoon and opened the letter. Her eyes wide with surprise, Winter decided to ask her friend.
“Do you want me to read it?”
Omega nodded and began to listen.
“In short, your visa has been approved.”
Hearing the cherished words, Sunoo jumped up, his eyes and mouth wide open. He covered his mouth with his hand and cried. Seeing his tears, Winter approached him and hugged him.
“I'm very happy for you. Very. I'm glad you'll finally meet him. I'm glad you'll finally feel him.” She hugged her friend tightly and rested her head on hers.
“Thank you so much, Winter. You're the best,” replied the omega, calming down a little, and put his free hand on hers.

Completely calmed down, the omega walked away and sat down in his seat.
“What about university?”
“Director Kang let me leave early.” “I went to see him today,” the omega replied, breaking off a piece of chocolate croissant.
“That's great. When are you going to buy the tickets?” Winter looked at her friend, taking a sip of caramel latte.
“I'll go home and order them. Right now, I just want to eat and go home.”
Chuckling at her friend's behavior, she simply nodded and spoke again:
“Then eat and go home. I can already see you jumping for joy.”
Sunoo was distracted by her words, but agreed.

Sitting at his computer in his apartment, he booked a ticket. He muttered quietly to himself as he reserved the tickets.
“So, today is Monday, his birthday is on Thursday, which means I need to leave tomorrow around noon, so I'll arrive on Wednesday morning, check into a hotel, get some sleep, and go to that watch store in the evening.” Omega nodded at his every word and continued, switching from one open tab on the computer to another. “I'd better reserve them at the store and pick them up in person on Wednesday.”
Nodding again at his words, Omega reserved both the watch and the tickets. Saving the tickets on his phone just in case, he turned off the computer and called Jake's mother.
After a couple of rings, the woman picked up the phone.
“Hello, Sunoo, why are you calling?”
“Hello, I wanted to say that I'm flying in on Wednesday morning. And...”
Before he could finish, Jake's mother shouted into the phone:
“My God, are you serious? You're coming?” Jake's father's reaction could be heard in the background.
“Yes, and I wanted to know what Jake is up to?”
After calming down a little from the excitement of Jake's mother, who was waiting for his omega, she replied:
“Yes, he asked Donovan to reserve a table for six. We haven't reserved a table yet, so we'll add you. Let's say everything will be ready at 7 p.m., and you can come at 8.”
“Thank you very much. If he asks, you can tell him something. Just don't say I'm coming; I want to surprise him.”
Jake's mother agreed to this adventure, but before ending the conversation, they talked a little more, and Donovan, Jake's father, also added a few words.

After checking in his luggage, Sunoo approached the boarding gate and was delighted to see the letters “Seoul-Brisbane” on his ticket. Oh, how happy he was to finally see his alpha. The person he had loved for five years.

When the loudspeaker announced that it was time to board, Sunoo calmly approached the flight attendant and showed her his ticket. She nodded as she took the ticket and bowed as she let him pass. He sat by the window. About 20 minutes later, when everyone was on board, two flight attendants gave a safety briefing, and the plane took off. The flight was supposed to take 12 hours, so Sunoo turned on Bluetooth on his phone again and sat down to read a book.

Halfway through the book, a flight attendant interrupted him, offering a choice of lunch: chicken with stew or fish with rice. Choosing the first option, Sunoo drank some juice and began to eat. Then the flight attendant came over and took away the empty food boxes, leaving the cups. Thanking her again, Omega returned to his reading. Looking at the screen in front of him, which showed that there were still 10 hours left before the flight, he felt very restless. He was both sad and happy at the same time. Sad because the journey was long, and happy because he would finally see Jake. After quickly finishing the book, he put it and his phone in his bag and went to sleep. The flight was long and tiring, so it was better to sleep. A tracksuit and sneakers turned out to be the best choice. In the morning, he chose jeans and a tracksuit, and now he was glad he had made that choice. Nothing was tight, everything was comfortable. The second time he was awakened by the girl sitting next to him. It turned out that dinner was already being served, but Sunu, since he often skipped dinner, said he wouldn't be having any. The flight attendant just nodded understandingly and moved on, and the omega went back to sleep.

On Wednesday at 2 p.m., Sunoo was already at the mall picking up a gift for Jake. It was the watch he wanted so badly. After buying it, he went to a store that sold all kinds of birthday items and bought some wrapping paper and a bow. As he was about to leave, he noticed a kiosk where you could print photos. There he printed a photo of him and Jake showing hearts on the screen, Jake buying his mom a bouquet of roses, and Jake smiling broadly with tears in his eyes. It was the day the alpha was forbidden to leave. He took the photos, for which he paid 30 Australian dollars. When he got to his room, he began wrapping the gift, covering the box with wrapping paper, tying it with ribbon, and gluing a bow on top. He put their photos inside the ribbon. When he finished the gift, he took a photo of it and called Jake's mom.

“Hi, Aunt Madison, I'm sending you a courier with gifts.”

“Okay, how was your flight?” Jake's mother asked anxiously.

“The flight was great. I slept all day. Everything's fine, don't worry,” the omega chuckled quietly into the phone.

" That's great,“ Madison exhaled. ”See you tomorrow at the Red Love restaurant."

The omega agreed, hung up the phone, and changed into something lighter. As soon as he was dressed, Jake called him.

“Hi, sunshine,” the alpha greeted him excitedly.

“Hi, how are you?”

“Great, tomorrow is my birthday, and you won't be there,” Jake said a little more quietly and lowered his head like a sad puppy.

“Don't be sad, puppy. I may not be there, but your friends and family will be,” Sunoo began to reassure his alpha. “By the way, what gift would you like me to send you?”

“I want you to come, and nothing else.”

“Except me?” The omega raised an eyebrow questioningly and lay down on the other side of the bed. “Maybe that watch?”

“I'll buy it myself, but not now,” Jake shook his head. “I'm saving money to fly to you.”

Hearing why Jake was saving money, Sunoo began to cry. Covering his eyes with his hand, he cried even harder.

“Hey, sunshine, don't cry. I only have a couple of weeks left, and then I can fly to you,” the alpha began to comfort the omega.

“I'm so happy that's why I'm crying. I'll wait for you,” Sunoo laughed through his tears. “I've already started waiting. I'll count the days.”

Laughing, they talked for another two hours and hung up.

On Wednesday morning, a courier arrived at Jake's parents' house with a bouquet of roses and a gift.
“Are you Sim Madison?” the courier asked, looking at the woman who opened the door.
“Yes.”
“Then this bouquet is for you, and this gift with a box of chocolates.” The courier handed the woman the bouquet and the gift. “Please sign here.”
After signing, the woman closed the door, put the bouquet on the table with the gift and chocolates, and began to take out the most beautiful vase. After washing it, she cut the ends and put the flowers in water. Looking at the flowers, Jake's mother noticed a small note.
"Good morning, Aunt Madison, this bouquet of roses is for you, the box of chocolates is for Uncle Donovan, they have cognac inside so please don't eat them, I know you're allergic to it, and that little box is the gift. Give it to him when you hand out the gifts. I would like to ask that when you take pictures of him at the table, you let me know. We will make it a surprise. I hope you understand my idea."
After reading the note, the woman laughed and called her husband into the kitchen. Donovan went down to the kitchen and saw a bouquet of flowers.
“Who's the bouquet from?”
“From Sunoo. He also sent you some cognac-filled chocolates along with the gift.”
“Sunoo is just the best. I adore him. I'll go and give him a kiss when he gets here.”
Laughing at her husband's words, Madison kissed him on the cheek and went into the living room. Sitting down in the living room next to his wife, Donovan started a conversation.
“Do you already know what you're going to wear?”
“Yeah, I'll wear that white dress Jake bought me recently, those shoes, and I'll throw on a coat.” Madison replied, looking at the ceiling. “And you?”
“Yeah, a shirt with jeans, sneakers, and that's it.”
Nodding at his words, the woman glanced at her watch. It was almost noon, which meant it was time to start getting dressed.

"Jack should arrive at 2 o'clock to help with various odds and ends. And he'll pick us up".
Madison finished her conversation and went to the bedroom to curl her hair. Donovan made himself some coffee and sat down to watch TV.
Just as his wife had said, Jack arrived at 2 o'clock.
“Hi, Dad,” said the older son, greeting his father and sitting down next to him.
“Hi, how's Yuna?”
“She's fine. She wanted to be at the party too, but she couldn't make it. Her legs hurt a lot. She asked me to give you a present.” He handed his father a gift. It was a small box containing a pendant.
“What's in there?” asked his father, shaking the box a little.
“There's a pendant. She made it herself. There are the letters J and S. They stand for the first letters of Jake and Sunoo's names.”
He looked at the box tenderly and smiled.
“He'll definitely like it.”
While they were laughing, Madison came down to them. She hugged her son and kissed him on the cheek.
“You'll have matching outfits,” said the woman, looking at what her older son was wearing.
Donovan looked at his son and shook his head.
“I'll be dressed almost the same, except for jeans and sneakers.”
After a short pause, they laughed.

At 7 p.m., when everyone was gathered except Sunoo, they began to give gifts. His brother was the first to approach him.
"So, you're 23 today, you're our future veterinarian, and Layla misses you very much, I'm sure of it. Grandma keeps sending me photos of Layla running around the farm. We've strayed from the topic.“ Jack handed him a box. Inside was a leather belt. ”This is the same belt you broke recently. It was your favorite, so I bought you the same one.
After receiving the gift, the brothers hugged each other.
“I also have a gift from Yuna. She couldn't make it, so I'm giving it to you. Open it.”
Opening the gift, he saw a pendant on a gold chain.
“It has the initials of your and Sunoo's names on it.”
Hearing what those letters meant, his eyes welled up with tears, and Jake asked his brother to put the chain on him. They hugged again, and Jay approached him.
“Well, bro, now you're 23, you're even closer to death,” Jake laughed and patted Jay on the shoulder but continued listening. "Okay, sorry. Anyway, happy birthday, I hope everything goes well for you and that you and Sonu finally get to see each other." They hugged, and Jay handed the birthday boy a box. Inside was another box, but this one had a picture on it. They were Apple AirPods Max Silver. After hugging each other, Jay went back to his seat and started filming Sunghoon giving his gift, as Sunghoon was filming him.
"Well, Jake, congratulations. I wish you the best life and love. And this is from me.“ He handed the envelope to Alpha, who immediately opened it. When Alpha saw what was inside, he laughed. ”You mentioned that you wanted to go to the gym, not just play soccer. So I hope you'll work out."
The guys hugged, and then his parents approached their son.
“Congratulations, dear. You're 23 today. So grown up, so independent. We are very happy for you. We talked it over, and you really love the band Chase Atlantic, right?” Jake nodded and continued listening to his parents. “So we bought you tickets to their concert.”
Hearing what gift his parents were giving him, he hugged them tightly and began to thank them. He was lucky that they had a table outside. “But that's not all.”
Jake bowed his head slightly like a puppy and continued listening.
“For what you're wearing today,” Madison said, looking at her son's outfit. He was wearing black jeans, a white T-shirt, matching sneakers, and a leather jacket. “Something will fit.” Donovan handed Jake a envelope.
Jake takes the box and the first thing he sees are photographs. Photographs of him crying, holding a bouquet for his mother, and showing a heart through the screen, with Sunoo showing him one too.
“Is this from Sunoo?” he asks his parents.

His parents nod and tell him to open it. Without wasting any time, he opens it and looks at the photos.

Tearing the paper, he sees the box and freezes.

“What's inside?” asks his mother, who also doesn't know what's inside.

Without answering, he carefully lifts the lid of the box and sees the very watch he has wanted for so long.

“Damn,” Jake blurts out, still in shock.

Jay and Sonhoon, sitting on either side of the alpha, open their eyes in surprise and glance at each other.

“Mom, Dad, he gave me the watch I wanted so much.”

Recovering from the shock, Jake replied and began to put it on.

“Congratulations!” Madison congratulated him again happily and kissed her son on the cheek. “Let's send a photo to Sunoo with his gift.”

Jay and Sunghoon immediately stepped out of the frame and stood next to Jake's parents. While Madison was wiping the camera, Sunghoon quietly approached them. The boys were the first to notice him. Sunoo signaled them not to show any reaction. They responded quickly.

“Say ‘cheese!’” While Madison was taking pictures of Jake, Sunoo jumped on him and hugged his neck.

Turning abruptly, he saw the omega's face. After standing in shock for a moment, Jake immediately picked Sunoo up in his arms. Holding onto his hips, covered in leather flared pants, they hugged for five minutes. After the alpha put Sunoo down, Jake cried into the omega's shoulder.

Sunoo stroked the Alpha's hair to calm him down. At the same time, he spoke gentle words to him and kissed him on the top of his head.

“You came. You came,” Jake repeated the words as if in a delirium.

“Yes, I came.”

The Alpha raised his head, looked into the Omega's eyes, and asked.

“Can I kiss you?”

Instead of answering, Sunoo kissed him first, grabbing the back of his head. Jake was surprised at first, but then deepened the kiss and moved his hands to the omega's hips.

Pulling away, the alpha said heavily,

“I love you.”

“I love you too.”
