Chapter Text

When he woke up, he tried to stop the fall from his hammock but failed as he couldn’t grab anything in time. “Ow,” He muttered, sitting up and staring at his hand that did not reach the ship's ceiling.

Luffy stood up, frowning. He tried to stretch his arm to grab an item from the cupboard; his whole arm felt like it was going to get ripped off, and he covered his mouth to stop a scream.  “What the hell is going on with me?” He asked himself in confusion.

Luffy tried to stretch out his fingers to start small again, but all he got was nothing at all.  He tried to convince himself that nothing was wrong, but the problem was staring him in the face. He sat down on the bottom hammock, millions of things running through his head at once.

He was hungry.

Probably, he just needed to eat something to feel better again!

In desperation, he ran out of the men’s quarters, and his legs halted in aching pain, “Oi! Luffy!” Usopp greeted him with a smile, and Luffy returned one, but it was only painful inside, and he asked for the sniper.

“Has Sanji made anything yet?” He asked, and instead of Usopp answering, it was Sanji himself who answered the question, “Yeah, I just finished,” He announced, and the whole crew started walking towards the dining hall. Luffy walked with them.

Taking his seat next to Zoro, the food smelled delicious and even more so when it was being placed right in front of him.

They all had their portion, and they all thought after Luffy finished his bowl, he would snatch more food from the table... but something was different.

I’m full?

Just one bowl, and he felt like he had just eaten a week's worth of food; he was so confused. “Luff-”

He didn't hear whoever called him as he was in his own world, confused and now terrified. There was no way he couldn’t just lose his gomu gomu powers. “i-I need some air.” He toppled his chair down and ran out the door. “What’s going on with me?!”

Luffy’s hands were shaking. He went to the training room, and he tried flinging himself up there, but he forgot he didn’t have his gomu gomu power.

He tried calming down, looking out into the ocean. He couldn’t hear it...since he was a kid, the ocean always called out to him, and he taught himself how to ignore it, but for once, he wished to hear the haunting ocean.

The ocean was always a calling, one simple fall can be just a small accident, and he was never scared of anything. He faced Kaido, fought Big Mom, but the ocean always terrified him.

Sometimes he reminds himself that it’s his fault that Shanks lost his arm because Luffy was trying to prove a fact.

But this was something else; he was powerless, and he couldn’t bear to look at the shock and worry he would receive from his crew.

“It's just a nightmare, yeah. I need to wake up!” He said, trembling, he pinched himself; he nearly banged his head against the wall, but someone stopped. “Luffy! What the hell are you doing?!”

Sanji.

“Ah, Hi-”

“HI?! That is all you have to say! CAPTAIN, WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!” Sanji snapped, and the grip on his arm tightened, making the younger captain flinch. He looked away. What could he say? How can he get away from this ‘misunderstanding’.

“Eh, sorry. But my head was hurting like crazy, and I felt a little unwell.” It wasn’t an exact lie, but Sanji saw right through him. “Bullshit, what the fuck was that?” He glared into his soul. Luffy can’t even feel Sanji’s presence, like his aura? If that even made sense.

“I am just full.” Luffy again wasn’t lying, but Sanji scoffed, “Again bullshit, that nothing compared to what you eat, what the actual fuck is going on with you, Luffy.”

Luffy took his arm back and grumbled.

“Leave me alone, Sanji. I am just... tired.” He walked past him, and he felt the others staring at him, nonplussed, but he ignored them, walking fast to the men's quarters.

The young captain convinced himself that everything would go back to normal in a couple of hours.

There was a knock on the door, and he didn’t trust his voice, but he took a second, “Yeah? Who is it?”

“It’s Nami,” The navigator said softly. He can hear the gloom in her voice and say, “I just wanted to mention we're passing an island.”

Luffy was thinking, and he stood up, taking a breath. There might be a chance he could get some answer, even a small hope. He will take it.

He opened the door and said, “Well, what are we waiting for? Set a course on that island! Our adventure awaits!” He ran past her; he needed to be more careful, though, his body felt like a stick.

Nami made her commands to the others while Luffy decided to make his own way alone to the island; he could not alert his crew, the last thing he wanted was the worry them. He heard them dock at the island, and he looked out the window; he was a little worried that he couldn’t tell if the place that they were going to was too dangerous or not.

He changes into his blue vest and black shorts. He really didn’t want to take off his hat, but he didn’t want to be recognized.

He really felt different without his ability to stretch…

Before anyone could say anything, he jumped down to the sand and tripped, or in better words, fell face flat on the sand

This was really embarrassing.

He got up quickly before he could be noticed
