Regarding drastic changes due to this AU’s setting, I think it would be better if the readers could get to know about this AU first. That way you will enjoy this story more than not knowing any single thing. Of course, the crucial plot points wouldn’t be mentioned here. So you don’t need to worry about spoilers.
Firstly, as the name suggests, this fiction is an alternate universe where the characters’ races have been swapped, human becomes youkai, and youkai becomes human. Gods become human or youkai. Something like that.
However, some of them will stay the same as they were in the main story because of the plot. I wouldn’t tell you now though. You'll find out as the story goes on. I hope you’ll look forward to discovering that for yourself.
Secondly, Hyakki academy had been changed into a human school in this AU, but it was still located on Hyakki academy island, an island inhabited by youkai!
The reason is simple: the mainland surely couldn’t handle how chaotic and destructive Haruaki and class 2-3 were, so they can’t be on the mainland!
At first, I was thinking about this school located in Kyoto or Osaka, but it was hard to set a whole new school with a proper rule for humans on human land. After having done a lot of research, I eventually gave up.
And since this AU’s Hyakki academy’s purpose was to be a bridge between human and youkai, wouldn’t it be better to be on a youkai’s island?
And that’s why we’re here. Don’t worry, the principal had made sure no dangerous youkai can get in without permission. You’ll see how it is in the story.
Still, there are some exceptions about those who can enter the school without permission, and you might already be able to guess now.
Thirdly, there is another youkai school here in this fiction! But they wouldn’t be a major role.
Of course, since Hyakki became a human school, we need another school for youkai Haru to attend!
It was named “Kichikou academy”. More details were to be revealed as the story progressed, so you’ll know about it soon.
And lastly, the most important one, is that most of the events will be changed drastically in order to adjust to the races that were swapped.
I planned to end it around the Kyoto arc, but I’ll try to include the Meiji arc before the finale. I might consider extending the story to Fox’s town arc if I get some more useful information from the main story, but not for now.
Anyway, I suggest making sure you read all the tags carefully before proceeding. Because of those changes in story, some backstories might get a little darker and heavier than canon. I’ll do my best to keep it in moderation.

P.S. Setting up the whole new world setting is no easy task. As I’m working on this one alone and having no beta readers, it isn’t that surprising to find some plot holes or mistakes. Feel free to point them out! Thank you in advance(*´꒳`*).
