Chapter Text
Silver came into his fathers’ room and opened the door awkwardly. He hummed when he set the tray on the nightstand and gently shook his father.
“Dad, wake up.” He said.
“Hmm?” Lilia hummed, turning to his son and rubbing his eyes. “What’s going on? Everything okay?”
“No. Cheka ate Rook. Vil is seeking revenge.” Silver told him with a small nod.
Lilia laughed, sitting up, then raised a brow. “What’s with the tray? Did you break something?”
“I fed Rook to Cheka.” The seventeen-year-old said.
The father rolled his eyes. “No. Really. What’d you do?”
“Maybe I just didn’t want you to cook, old man.”
“You little shit.” Lilia chuckled, lightly hitting his son with a pillow. Silver laughed.
“No, really. Nothing happened.” The teenager promised. “You just do so much for us; I wanted to do something for you.”
“Thank you. You’re so sweet.” Lilia told him, patting his head.
Silver smiled. “You enjoy your food. Father is already up and about.”
Lilia nodded, moving the tray to his lap, tucking his short bobbed hair behind his ear.
Silver walked out of the room and downstairs to where Vil, Epel, and Riddle were sitting at the table.
Vil was trying to teach Epel about the potions he was making, while Riddle was studying a medical book.
“Go easy on him, Vil. He's just a kid.” Silver said, walking past.
“He's old enough to learn this,” Vil responded, earning a groan from Epel.
When he got outside, he looked around the front yard.
Malleus and Leona were arguing by a pile of stacked wood. Again. In between them was Raverne trying to calm them down.
Those two had become quite the muscle of the group. Plus Sebek, Silver supposed, when they needed someone who wasn't going to argue at every turn and twist.
Silver ignored them, deciding his father could handle it, and turned to the apple orchard, where he saw Jack and Sebek helping Cheka pick apples.
Well…Jack was helping Cheka pick apples. Sebek was scolding Che’nya for sleeping in the tree. The cat was ignoring him and sleeping on.
Silver's attention turned to a fire. A bit early in the day for it, but Trey had always needed to get a head start on cooking with this many mouths to feed. He had gotten so good at cooking with little supplies that he could make an army full with just a spoonful of beans, as Lilia said.
Then he heard rumbling in the trees where he saw Rook pull back a deer carcass from his latest hunt. At least it wasn't another monster this time. Lilia had to ban him from having his experiments performed in the house after he tried bringing home a ghoul in an attempt to fulfill his promise to Falena. Silver remembered then that Lilia helped him set up a base to do his experiments outside the home.
Rook was a weird guy.
Of course, this was a weird family. But a family Silver wouldn't change for anything.
The teenager hadn't realized how long he had been standing there until he felt a pat on the back. When he turned, he saw his father, and a small smile crept onto his lips.
“How was breakfast?” He asked.
“Delightful!” Lilia smiled. “What are you staring at?”
“Everyone, I guess.” Silver shrugged.
“Oh?” The father raised a brow. “Why-”
CRASH!
The sound of the gate crashing down interrupted their conversation, and everyone froze when they saw a large matte black tank roll onto the lawn.
“Everyone stay back!” Lilia yelled as the tank stopped just a few feet onto the property. He walked towards the tank as everyone ran towards the porch, excluding Raverne, who walked behind his lover.
A man stepped out of the tank, which surprisingly had a side door. He had a large gun and black clothing and armor that looked like some sort of modern army personnel.
“Who are you?” Lilia asked.
“Lilia Vanrouge?” The man asked.
Silver had a horrible feeling.
“This is he,” His father told the man.
“Congratulations,” The man had a robotic voice. “You and your company have been selected to live in the Underworld.”
“The what?” Raverne asked.
“A utopia.” The man asked. “A paradise among the apocalypse.”
“No thanks,” Lilia told him. “We don’t want to go anywhere with you.”
The man shook his head, reaching to grab a small capsule from his vest, and then threw it at Lilia.
Lilia brought his hands up to brace himself for impact but screamed when he was electrocuted, and then his kids watched in shock as he disappeared into the capsule.
“Congratulations,” The robotic man said, as everyone stared in horror at the man. “You all have been selected to live in the Underworld.
“Run!” Raverne screamed as another capsule hit him as well.
Silver turned, gesturing for everyone to go inside.
“Go!” He said. “Grab the go-backs! Now!”
“Watch out!” He heard Sebek yell, followed by his scream. He turned quickly just in time to see the other teen shrink into the capsule. He quickly picked up the small container and slid it into his pocket before running inside. He grabbed his and Sebek’s bags, noting that everyone else’s was already gone. Before he hesitated. He then snatched his father’s swords and ran out the back.
Rook was lifting Epel and guiding Vil out to the woods, while Malleus was in combat with more men. Leona, Jack, and Cheka were nowhere to be seen. Riddle, Trey, and Che’nya were cornered at the back of the house.
Silver jumped over the side of the stairs, landing on the man cornering his friends just as he threw one of the capsules. As soon as they hit the ground, Silver got up and slammed his father’s sword down on the man’s neck.
“Run!” Silver didn’t even look up at them, running towards Malleus before his body seized and he shrunk down.
He froze for a moment. The eyes of all the men left over looked to him. Trey and Riddle were gone.
He was outnumbered.
His family was gone.
He was alone.
