Hatter had hesitated when he saw the Mad March. The man with the rabbit's head. He almost thought it wasn't him, but hearing how he spoke, how the others around him reacted.
He knew deep down who he was, and all Hatter could do was run.
After a safe distance, panting, unable to really notice Alice looking at him before she placed a hand on his arm.
"You knew him?" Alice wondered.
Hatter nodded, trying to get a hold of himself. He kept flickering through memories of knowing the man before he became what he was now. But the current appearance took over, and Hatter closed his eyes.
"Yes, I knew him…a long time ago, but not anymore."
