Work Text:

“Wild! Wild! Wild! Wild!” Wind would not stop chanting his name since they arrived in Wild’s era.

To be fair, it had been a few months since the chain last saw their ninth member due to Wild apparently being needed back in his Hyrule. No one understood why the goddess decided to take him away in the middle of their journey, but hey, what were they gonna do? Throw a fit and force him through a portal so that he has no choice but to stay with them? Wind and Twilight tried that, it didn’t work.

Point is, they were finally back in Wilds era. And it definitely looked a bit different.

For one, there were floating islands in the sky. Sky- the person -had thought for a second that somehow this era was connected to his, but after a few minutes of walking around and realizing how familiar the land looked, that idea was debunked. Oh, and Hyrule Castle was floating as well. Because why not?

Then there was the gaping holes all over the ground that probably led to the void. Hyrule had thrown a rock down one of them and, after about 15 minutes of not hearing the rock hit the bottom, they had all decided to stay very far away from them.

“Ughhhh. I hate walking! My feet hurt. Will someone carry me?”

Legend groaned. “Wind, for the past 30 minutes you’ve been shouting out Wild’s name and giving us all headaches.”

Wind looked and Legend and with a very serious face said, “Ok, but will you carry me?”

Time stepped between the two. “Sorry sailor, but no. We’re almost to Hateno Village anyways.”

Legends eye definitely twitched and if it wasn’t for Time, he’d have probably tackled the kid.

Four, who was in the back talking with Hyrule, decided to pipe up and ask the question no one really wanted to know the answer to, “How do we even know if he’s at his house. It’s Wild we’re talking about.”

“Well the people at the stable said that’s where he last was so we’re taking a gamble,” Twilight said. Ever since Wild left he felt like a part of him was missing. A part of him that could cook like a god and commit an unreasonable amount of arson with only a stick and a dream, but a part of him nonetheless.

He was very happy to be back in his Cub’s era.

“Seems like a very strong gamble if you ask me,” Four mumbled and then proceeded to yell “Ow!” after Hyrule elbowed him.

“We don’t have any other leads,” Hyrule told four. “Plus, like Time said, we’re close to Hateno anyways.”

When arriving, the Chain had been dropped at Fort Hateno. It had taken them a bit too long than they care to admit for them to realize that. But hey, they all thought of Fort Hateno as a guardian graveyard and now all the guardians have disappeared so was it really their fault for not noticing? Maybe, but they were definitely not admitting it.

“Remind me to yell at Wild about how long it takes to get anywhere in his Hyrule.” Wars grumbled.

“If I’m being honest, I might join you as w- Wait is that the entrance?” Sky pointed down- Or was it up? They were at the bottom of a small hill after all and needed to walk up -the pathway. Sure enough, there was an archway with a sign that probably read “Hateno village” in Wild’s Hylian. But they didn’t need to know how to read the Hylian of this era to know that. They’ve been here before.

“THANK THE GODS!!” Wind threw up his hands in exaggeration and proceeded to run to the entrance of the village and sprint to where Wild’s house was. Everyone else wasn’t so far behind.

“20 rupees he’s not here.”

“Sure, why not.”

“Legend, Four, shut up.”

“Make me Pretty Boy.”

“By the Golden Three, why am I in charge of you all?”

“Maybe Hylia’s preparing you for when you have kids of your own.”

“You better be right sailor.”

“You love us old man.”

“Sure thing pup.”

“Hey- is- is- anyone- hold on-“

“Sky just breath.”

“I’m- I’m TRYING Rulie! God- I hate running-“

“It’s ok, I’ll ask for you. Is anyone going to knock on the door?”

Everyone went silent. They were all standing outside of Wild’s house just… talking. Goddesses, they were all weird.

Twilight cleared his throat, “Yeah- um- right, I- I got it.”

He walked to the door of the house, knocked, and stepped back to wait for the door to open.

“One second!” They heard a voice- his voice call out.

Holy mackerel he’s right in there. Twilight found himself thinking.

After a few moments, multiple noises coming from inside the house that indicated things falling over, and a couple of flavorful words that could be heard following a “thud” sound, the door opened.

“Hello, what can-“ He stopped once he realized who he was looking at.

The Chain did nothing but stare.

He looked barely any older. But they could tell that wasn’t case with the bags under his eyes, the few new scars he gained, and his longer, more untamed hair.

None of that truly mattered though. Because he still had his scars, still had his bright blue eyes, and still wore the champions tunic, though it had a lot more leather attached.

So yeah, the Chain was in shock.

Because Wild is right in front of them.

Wild is right in front of them.

Before the Chain could make any sort of move, Wild slowly backed into his house and closed the door. Everyone was very confused.

After about 10 seconds passed, the door opened to reveal Wild again. He just continued to stare. His shoulders were tense and they could tell he was on guard.

Wild kept closing and opening the door multiple times, brows furrowing more each time, as if the Chain was supposed to do something they didn’t know of.

Finally, he stopped messing with the door and called out into the house, still keeping his eyes on the chain, “Zelda! Can you come here?”

“Ugh. What do you need?” They heard a voice yell back, Flora’s voice.

“Can you just come?”

“Can you just let me sleep?”

“I would, but we either are in deep trouble right now or I’m going to have to leave for my other journey soon.”

A beat.

“HUH?!”

There was a sudden commotion coming from what probably was the upstairs part of Wild’s house. It took a second but Flora eventually made herself seen.

She was wearing traveling clothes, meaning she probably fell asleep in them from the night before. Her hair was cut to her shoulders and she was taller than Wild now.

She stared at the Chain with the same amount of wariness as Wild.

“I’m not going crazy right?” Wild said in a stage whisper.

“No- no I see them too.” Flora responded back.

“Ok good.”

“Do… Do you also sense Hylia’s blessing in them?”

“…Yeah-“

Flora snorted. “Well then,” she relaxed, “I suppose I better start calling you Wild again, huh?”

Wild turned to Flora, then back to the Chain.

“Huh. Yeah I gue- OOF-“

Wild got cut off thanks to Wind slamming himself against him.

“I MISSED YOU!!” Wind yelled and squeezed Wild.

“Wind you’re killing me-“ Wild obviously didn’t appreciate being squeezed to death, but hey, he was finally smiling and wasn’t on guard anymore.

Finally, the rest of the Chain all came together in one group hug, with Wild being in the center.

They all eventually pulled back and before anyone could say anything, Twilight asked what everyone was probably thinking.

“So,” He motioned to Wild’s arm. “You gonna explain why you have a robot arm?”

Wild avoided eye contact with him and looked at Flora.

“Nope.” She turned around and went back inside the house. “You’re on your own.”

“Wow. How nice of you.”

He turned back to Twilight and sighed. “Sure, I’ll tell you.”

He smirked.

“If you can catch me that is.”

Wild then decided it was a great time to bolt in the direction of the Village entrance and be the cause of a wild goose chase (or a wild Wild chase, depending on your sense of humor).

“Pup your on your own,” Time stated and went to follow Flora into the house.

Everyone else agreed.

The rancher sighed and transformed into Wolfie. This was gonna take a while.

Notes:

The ending isn’t the best but it’s good enough

Like everything I write, this probably has grammatical and spelling errors. Autocorrect has never been my friend 😔
