The summer I married oomf

Summary:

A day in the life of Nene and Sappho!!

Notes:

This was highly self indulgent, and some things are definitely ooc! :( I made some assumptions from the tweets I've seen, and I pried some aesthetics off from your guy's header and pfp <3 There's lots of descriptive writing, I'm not too fond of this but it was a fun write all in all💗

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a pleasant morning in the little house down by the moor, hill sides embracing the pavement for the sun's awake, rivers glistening in its wake, and two girls, in the comfort of their little home, lay awake, pondering about.

“I think,” Nene stated, “I'm going to make breakfast extra sweet today.”

Sappho curled up an eyebrow, “.. Don't you usually?” A sigh left her lips, followed by a small chuckle.

“I heard somewhere that the more sweet things you eat, the more energized you become.” Nene stated happily, hopping off to the kitchen, “Plus, doesn't your nine to five drain you out? Sugar obviously helps!”

With the bickering going on back and forth, love floating with the sun's presence getting brighter and brighter, Sappho sighed sadly, “My job is more like a 9-10, not a 9-5.”

“Isn't that like,” Nene's voice rang from the kitchen, “an hour difference?” The sugar she was adding might have gone to her head, Sappho thought before adding, “No, I mean, I work from 9A.M till 10P.M.”

“Oh, indeed you do!” Nene agreed joyfully.
Sappho sighed once more, “Why would I work for an hour…”

But before she could joke about it, Nene swiftly came in with two plates, and the aroma of sweet, fresh berries and honey filled the room, with the presence of her warm, warm smile.

Sappho belatedly realised that she was, in fact, blushing.

“Okay! I made a pancake stack for the two of us, with whipped cream made by yours truly, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries from our backyard garden, and honey drizzled on top. Don't worry, I added less sugar in the pancake batter.”

Sappho sighed out of relief, and with that, they began their sweet breakfast, but not before Sappho added whipped cream on Nene’s nose.

The pancake was fluffy and large, the consistency of the pancake wasn't too thick, nor too thin, which Sappho enjoyed immensely. The berries were fresh, the raspberries being a little sour, the contrast balanced the sweetness, the honey was drizzled on the top, and Sappho had to admit that the top pancake was her favourite, for the whipped cream and the honey made a perfect duo, just like the two of them.

“Should I add syrup on top of mine?” Nene asked.

“Not if you want to be sweeter than you already are.” Sappho added cheekily.

Nene blushed, and with a few more bites and chatter floating around, Sappho had to finally leave for work.

“Thanks for the sweet breakfast, Nene.” Sappho said, giving her a peck on the cheek. “I'll see you after….14hours.” She said solemnly.

Nene smiled lovingly, and taking Sappho’s face in her arms, she gave her a short but adoring kiss. “I'll see you later, darling. I'll study in the meantime.”

Sappho nodded, “Text me if you need anything, okay?”

And with a sweet breakfast, a farewell kiss, and the sun creaking through the hills down by their cottage, a morning was once again, well spent by the yearning couple.

It was a Saturday evening, boisterous outside past the river, distant sounds of children yelling and car honkings passed by mindlessly in the background.

A weekend it was, and a busy one at that.

Sappho was mindlessly reading a book the couple loved dearly, about a monster and a human. No matter how many times they read it, they were never bored of it, and after every reread, they all fell more in love with the book and characters.

Nene hopped along on the bed, wrapping her arms around Sappho’s waist and resting her head on the other's shoulder, inquiringly asked, “Do you want to do something before the day ends?”

“Sure.” Sappho agreed, “Do you want to stay in doors, or go outside?”

Nene thought quietly, and after pondering for a good minute, she said loudly, “Let's do something romantic!”

Sappho laughed at that, but nodded along anyway, “Isn't our entire relationship romantic?” And the two chuckled.

Nene proposed that she'd try out a new recipe, and Sappho proposed they'd take a bath with scented candles and bath bombs.

“That idea is sure out there.” Nene added.

“There's a difference between a quick shower and a bath spent lovingly.” Sappho concluded.

“With bath bombs.” Nene asked.
“With bath bombs, yes.” Sappho answered.

And with that being concluded, the two set out. Sappho readily runs the tap water to make it extra hot, so while they finish eating, the water will be warm. She opened the curtain and tied it into a bow on both sides. Nene bought the curtains for the washroom, a light flowy material, with a white background and pink tulips laid across.

A very huge con of their bathroom, or rather, their entire house, was that they were in the middle of a valley, with a river in the front of their house, before they could leave into the city. There weren't many houses in their area, they were all situated down the river. So where they lived, it was tranquil. The washroom window opened up to the hillside, and when it was dark at night, the stars enveloped the skies perfectly, which was framed between the hills.

Sappho thought about it hard and long, they only ever showered together, and that too, very quickly, so for them to admire the starry night together in a warm bath, Sappho thought it'd be the perfect time to lay back and relax.

She added rose petals in the water, added amber bath bombs (it had a really pretty shade–Nene would love it, despite her earlier reluctance) and apple scented candles, on the shelf above them, emitting the bathroom with a low, sensual light.

She added a bottle of grape wine on the side, (The idea came from seeing a lot of movies with Nene), and some chocolates. This was situated on a wooden tray, in the middle of the bath.

While Sappho scurried along in their shared bathroom, Nene was almost done cooking.

Sappho entered the kitchen, where the dining table was situated.

The room had a pink soft glow, due to the sun setting outside, and pink lamps situated around in the hall. The dining table had a fresh vase of flowers, probably from their backyard and the table was occupied with their food.

Sappho’s eyes were covered now, and Nene whispered in her ear, “Do you like it?”

Sappho gently pried her hands away from her face and nodded, “Of course I do, silly.”
And without further Ado, the two began eating. There was a mixed vegetable salad, mashed potatoes and chicken on the top, with garlic bread on the side.

In between their bites and loving gazes, Sappho asked, “When did you get the time to prepare all this?”

Nene laughed at that, “You took even more time than me, In the bathroom.”

Sappho blushed lightly, and Nene’s laughter grew a little louder.

Cleaning the dishes side by side, Sappho finally declared, “Let's go take a bath!”

Nene and Sappho reached the bathroom, to which Nene opened the door, with great suspense.

“Let me think about what you did in there.” Nene said.

“You'll find out sooner or later, trust me.” Sappho replied.

“Our cat, vini!” Nene said proudly.

“She's asleep right beside your foot though?”

“A plushy then!” Nene thought aloud once more, though it would have been slightly better if she didn't.

Sappho just pinched her cheeks, “I'm not gifting you anything, so let's go inside, okay?” Sappho didn't wait for a response and lightly pushed Nene inside, and closed the door.

“Pushing me inside surely can't be that rom-” and she cut herself off with a huge gasp, followed by a little scream, “Sappho! Sappho!”

“Nene. Nene.” Sappho joined in.

“It's like those romantic scenes in the movies! Let's get married!” Nene said too quickly, her eyes glimmering.

Sappho just blushed and scratched her head shyly, “It's not as good as yours…” But Nene wasn't planning on going back and forth on this, so she pulled Sappho inside the bath.

Nene sighed contentedly as she relaxed into Sappho's embrace, her front facing Nene’s back, while she bickered along topics she could think of while Sappho nodded along, and they drank their wine and ate chocolates peacefully, as they gazed outside, the stars glistening as brightly as ever.

“All these stars,” Sappho said quietly, “yet your eyes still shine the brightest.”

Nene gave a surprised gasp, and turned around to give Sappho a sweet, long kiss, “What's making you so cheeky nowadays?” She said, her lips still pressed against Sappho’s.

“I'm love sick.” Sappho sighed dramatically, and getting up, she quickly picked up Nene in her arms.

“Im taller than you, shouldn't I be picking you up?” Nene teasingly asked.

“I'm older than you, remember?” Sappho reminded her, carefully laying her down on their bed and laying on top of her, with a good distance for them to look at each other's faces.

“We didn't dry ourselves off.” Nene said.

“We won't need too.” Sappho said, voice low.

“Why is the room so pink?” Nene asked, genuinely curious.

“You got the pink lamps….remember..?” Sappho said dejectedly.

“Oh.”

But Nene didn't laugh at her own silly bad memory, instead, she leaned up and kissed Sappho once more, her eye lids, her jaw, and every inch of skin she could see.

Leading Sappho's hand on her collarbone, she said teasingly, “Either I do it, or you do it right.”

Sappho was a red faced mess by now, and with her voice barely audible, she said matter of factly, “I'll try my hardest.”

Nene, Sappho realized, did in fact, like those amber bath bombs.

💗

It was a Tuesday evening, bright and sunny, and the warmth of the sun felt pleasantly soothing on Nene’s skin.
She kept the windows open, and a light breeze swept in.
She neatly arranged a couple of flowers into a vase, when her phone started ringing. Surprisingly enough, it was Sappho.

They were married, yes, though Sappho never really liked calling.

“Hello love!” Nene said cheerfully, chopping the endings of some flowers before she added them into the vase.

“Are you free right now? I got out of work early and I wanted to spend some time with you, do you want to go to some mall?” Sappho asked, happiness leaking into her calm tone.

Warmth swelled Nene’s heart and she nodded, though the former couldn't see her little action, she quickly added, “Of course! I'll meet you there at 15!”

Nene had a wonderful, splendid idea in mind.

“Hat shopping?” Sappho's eyes started to glisten.

“Hat shopping! We can get matching hats, or caps!” Nene said, pulling Sappho aside into a new shop, this one seeming better than the past three they've encountered.

“I'll get one with a cat, or maybe a big pink summer hat? But those usually come in beige, so maybe we could go to a beach with those big hats? I see a big purple flower attached to a hat over there, oh is that satin? Maybe a simple black one will do too…Oh! The one in the corner is small and cute, but it won't be that big of a help during summers ....” Nene went on, walking around in a shop that was surprisingly big.

“I'll get this one,” Sappho pointed to a cap with a grey and black colour scheme, and a woven image of a black panther. “It'll be pretty good when the heat rolls around, and I like the design.”

Nene scurried over, holding a pink summer hat, with satin rimmed along the end as a bow, and a white feather on the side. “It's pretty out there but I do like the pink and white!” She said, beaming.

Sappho smiled and ruffled Nene’s hair, “This wouldn't really be considered ‘matching’ though, would it?”

Nene shook her head, and pulled Sappho into the opposite aisle.

“There's this big black one here! A summer hat too. I highly doubt we’ll ever use it more than once, but I like the idea of us keeping matching hats in our house.” She said, playing with her thumbs.

Sappho looked at the hat Nene suggested thoughtfully.

It was the same size as Nene’s pink hat, a bow tied to the left, and the bow was significantly smaller. But Sappho noticed that on the end, a white feather was attached.

She smiled brightly and nodded, bringing up Nene’s hand to kiss sweetly, “Let's get them. But buy one more, there's a bear one too there, I think..”

And with two hats in their bags, two boisterous hats on their heads, the two went home, hands interlinked.

Nene hoped Sappho would call her more.
