A Companion Close to Eternity.

Summary:

Fern had an unusual conversation with Stark about Frieren. "Do you think that when we leave this world, Frieren-sama will feel lonely?" Stark smiled. "Human life is short. I don't think so, but it seems you want to leave a mark that Frieren will never forget. Am I wrong, Fern?"

Work Text:

Narrated by At:

Two hundred years have passed since then, Frieren thought, remembering the sweet smiles of those young people named Stark and Fern. Suddenly, she felt a spell approaching, bringing her back to reality. Was her son, the last living connection that she had with Fern, a long story in case anyone was wondering and something that Frieren didn't want to talk about, not out of displeasure, but out of fear of the pain, fear of shedding tears again.

Frieren: You're so slow, brat.

/ The young man pouted and crossed his arms, grumbling/.

Frieren: Come on, Kaiser, don't be mad. I'll buy you whatever you want.

Kaiser: Really?!!! Don't forget you already promised.

/ The young man with white hair and violet eyes said cheerfully, with a wide smile/.

Kaiser: Wow, it's been 200 years.

Frieren: I was thinking the same thing.

Kaiser: When will we go to see Mom?

Frieren: When you're strong enough to make it through the journey to Paradise.

Kaiser: We have time.

Narrated by At:

For those who wondered how the existence of that young hybrid was possible, Frieren only answered that it was due to a spell. She never gave exact details, but she always presented him as the son of Fern and herself. His physical appearance and personality were undeniable to the few who were still alive at that time, mainly magical creatures.

Kaiser: Never gave me many details. My memories are hazy. If it weren't for those wizards who took some photographs of us, I wouldn't be able to remember what Mom and Uncle Stark looked like.

/ Kaiser said, sounding a little scared and sad/.

Frieren: Then you must get stronger so we can go see them soon.

Kaiser: That's right.

/ After six months of rigorous training, the young man showed improvement. His specialty was attack spells, while for defense he used armor and a special shield. He was also an excellent swordsman, thanks to Stark's tutelage.

Frieren: We'll be setting off soon.

Kaiser: Great!!!.

/ The young man fell asleep early that night, but for some reason, Frieren couldn't sleep. Lately, she'd been thinking a lot about Fern and what had happened back then/.

Flashback:

Narrated by At:

Stark and Fern were talking about their adventure in Paradise. They were both excited to see Himmel and Fern had met Heiter, the man who saved her. They were discussing how, when they died, they would surely meet there and Frieren could visit them. Suddenly, silence fell.

Stark: Is something wrong?

Fern: Mr. Stark, do you think Frieren-sama will remember us when we're gone?

Stark: Of course she will and now that we know that Paradise exists, we can see each other occasionally.

/ Fern buried her face in her knees/.

Fern: It's not enough.

/ She said, clenching her fists/.

Stark: Why haven't you told her how you feel?

Fern: Our lives are too short, Mr. Stark. It wouldn't work and I don't think Frieren-sama feels the same way I do. She sees me as a child.

/ Stark smirked. He'd known for some time that Fern had these kinds of feelings for Frieren/.

Stark: I think you should talk about it.

/ Fern pouted and turned her head away/.

Stark: How about a photograph? Like the one Sein had with his friend.

Fern: I want to leave a part of myself with Frieren-sama.

/ Dinner was silent. Frieren asked Stark if he knew what was wrong with Fern, but he couldn't say; it was something he couldn't reveal/.

Frieren: Fern, you've seemed very strange lately. Remember we said the three of us would have adventures together, so you shouldn't worry.

/ Frieren stroked the woman's head. More than a decade had passed since they had embarked on their journey/.

Fern: I'm not a child anymore.

/ Fern withdrew Frieren's hand and she lowered her head/.

Frieren: I know.

/ Stark noticed the tension in the air and left, saying he wanted to go to the tavern. Fern took a deep breath, gathering her courage to speak/.

Frieren: Frieren-sama, I want to tell you something important.

Frieren: Go ahead.

Fern: I feel something very special for you, exactly, romantic feelings.

/ Frieren's stomach lurched. It was complicated. She'd watched Fern grow up, but it would be a lie if Frieren said that she hadn't noticed the changes. Fern wasn't the little girl she'd once known/.

Frieren: Your life is too short to waste it on me.

Fern: Do you think I'm a waste of time?

/ Fern's eyes welled up with tears. She could barely hold them back. A direct rejection was better than making excuses like that./

Frieren: (I'm an idiot. I shouldn't make her cry). I'm sorry, that's not what I meant. It would be very special for me to spend the rest of your life with you, but are you really sure?

Fern: Yes.

/ A look of determination that Frieren had never seen before/.

Frieren: I understand.

Frieren struggled to understand people's emotions, but she still believed the following was the right thing to do. She took Fern's cheeks in her hands and placed a kiss on her lips.

Fern: That's not all I want, I want to leave a part of myself at your side.

Frieren: What do you mean?

Frieren: Let's have a child.

/ Frieren fainted. The impact was brutal and direct. When she awoke, she found Stark watching her/.

Frieren: Stark.

Stark: Judging by your reaction, Fern told you.

Frieren: Did you know?

Stark: It wasn't my place to say.

Frieren: A child.

Stark: What?!!!

Frieren: Weren't you supposed to know?

Stark: I knew she felt something for you, but this.

/ Stark then hit his forehead, remembering his last conversation with Fern/.

Stark: So that's what she meant by, "I want to leave a part of myself with Frieren-sama."

Frieren: I see.

Stark: So, what do you think?

Frieren: That would be nice.

Stark: Is there a way?

Frieren: Remember, I've spent my whole life collecting spells. There are some, for example, one where a drop of blood from each part can create a baby in a spring, another where you recite a spell and Fern could get pregnant.

Stark: Are there more?

Frieren: One with a more traditional method, so to speak. It involves generating a male member by reciting a spell, and well...

/ Frieren turned her face away and cleared her throat/.

Frieren: Doing it the traditional way.

/ Stark blushed, vaguely imagining the scene/.

Frieren: If you ask me, I'd prefer the blood drop method.

Stark: Considering Fern's feelings, I think she'd be angry.

The image of Fern looking angry flashed through both their minds.

Frieren: And by the way, where is she?

Stark: She went for a walk. Fern said that she wanted to be alone.

Frieren: That's complicated. Anyway, how about we go for a drink?

Stark: Okay.

They'd both had a few too many. Frieren might have drunk occasionally, but never to the point of passing out.

Fern: Mr. Stark.

Stark jerked his head up, staring at Fern's angry expression and composed himself slightly.

Stark: Fern.

Fern: You are very drunk. I'll help you to get to the inn.

Stark: And Frieren?

Fern turned her head away without saying anything more.

Fern: Frieren-sama can get back on her own.

A sharp pain in Frieren's neck throbbed as she awoke. She had slept at the bar and couldn't find Stark. The most logical explanation was that Fern had taken him, so she made her way back to the inn with difficulty. Stark wasn't there and she found a note saying he'd gone to train.

Frieren: ( That brat).

Frieren thought. More than a decade had passed since they met, yet Frieren still considered him a child, even though he was now an adult.

Frieren: Fern, can we talk?

She was still angry, but Frieren bribed her with sweets, relieved that this still worked.

Frieren: Fern, I almost fainted from the shock earlier, but I like your idea.

Fern had finished eating and was watching Frieren intently.

Frieren: There are various methods.

She tried to begin explaining, but Fern stopped her, raising a hand.

Fern: I've studied them. I want it to be through the spell. I want our bodies to know each other.

Frieren understood and took both of Fern's hands, kissing them and gazing at her with melancholy.

Frieren: Very well.

Frieren recited a spell and applied it to her body. There was no need to ask what it was; Fern had blushed in response.

Fern: Frieren-sama.

Their lips met, first in a fleeting kiss, then again, deepening the kiss. Fern wrapped her arms around Frieren's neck, who had already begun to undress her, noticing what was undoubtedly logical: Fern had the body of a grown woman, she was no longer a child. The touch of their tongues, the movement of their lips, began to cause an unfamiliar tingling sensation down Fern's spine.

Frieren: You are beautiful.

She said, cupping her cheek. Fern was slightly embarrassed at being exposed to Frieren, who lightly brushed her tongue against Fern's ear, descending to her neck, sucking on her skin. Delicately, she cupped Fern's breasts in both hands, squeezing them lightly and took one of her nipples into her mouth, circling it with her tongue and gently biting it.

Fern: Frieren-sama.

An unfamiliar pleasure flooded Fern. She gripped Frieren's hair firmly, feeling attention on her other breast as a hand ventured between her legs.

Frieren: Are you sure?

Fern wanted to throw a grimoire in her face for that question, but she felt it wasn't appropriate to get angry at that moment.

Fern: Yes.

Frieren had trailed kisses down Fern's stomach, finally reaching her already moist intimacy. She lightly ran her tongue over that warm, delicate spot, rubbing Fern's clitoris with her thumb and sliding her tongue from back to front. Fern was happy, she felt loved, desired. In this moment, she was sharing not just a carnal bond, but one that transcended the soul.

Fern: Frieren-sama.

She was giving her first time to Frieren, out of love, out of a desperate desire that Frieren would never forget her, leaving a part of herself beside Frieren, a bond she hoped would last for eternity. Then Fern reached her climax, her body trembling and sighing with exhaustion, but this wasn't over yet. She noticed Frieren's bulge in her pants.

Frieren: Fern, tell me if I hurt you.

Frieren took off her pants and underwear, revealing the magical member that she had conjured with that spell. It wasn't small; it would likely hurt Fern, but to Frieren's surprise, Fern spread her legs even wider.

Fern: I'm ready.

Frieren nodded, setting aside her doubts and with utmost care, she inserted her member inside Fern. It was a pleasant, intoxicating, and confusing sensation.

Frieren: ( This feels good).

Frieren intertwined her hands with Fern's and carefully began to move back and forth, slowly, exploring Fern's warm, moist interior.

Fern: A little faster.

With a sigh, Frieren quickened her movements and after a while reached her climax, collapsing from exhaustion onto Fern's breasts, who lovingly brushed the hair from her forehead.

Fern: That was wonderful.

Frieren: It's true.

The spell lasted approximately three hours, but Frieren grew tired after an hour and fell into a deep sleep. Time passed and after about three months, it was confirmed that Fern was pregnant.

Stark: I'm going to be an uncle!!!

Stark exclaimed excitedly. He wasn't interested in the idea of having children of his own, but he adored kids. What he and Frieren hadn't expected were Fern's increasingly sudden mood swings. She was very sensitive and had unusual cravings.

Fern: Mr. Stark.

Fern used to poke his cheek with a finger to wake him up in the middle of the night.

Stark: What's wrong?

Fern: I want a Red Dragon Egg Omelette.

Stark: How specific.

He was the one who suffered the most during that time to satisfy Fern's very specific nighttime cravings. He used to hunt dangerous creatures frequently, which made him stronger.

Stark: That baby owes me a great debt.

Why did he take care of it? The reason was simple: Frieren wouldn't wake up at night for anything, so it was a pointless effort. But at least during the day, Frieren fulfilled all of Fern's requests.

Frieren: Stark! Come here!

On the day of the birth, he waited outside in the field. Stark didn't think it was appropriate to be there, so Frieren took care of everything.

Stark: Has the baby been born yet?

He was amazed by Frieren's great enthusiasm, as she was usually impassive.

Frieren: You did it well.

Frieren said, kissing Fern's forehead, who smiled at the gesture.

Frieren: Is a boy.

Stark: I'll make him my apprentice.

Years passed and they were arguably the strangest and closest family of that time.

Stark: Come on, Kaiser, is that all?

Kaiser was already 16 years old and still couldn't beat Stark.

Kaiser: I'll show you my skills, Uncle Stark.

Stark taught him how to use a sword and Fern taught him how to use magic. Frieren kept to herself at that time because when they were gone, Frieren would be the one to take care of him, so she wanted him to spend as much time as possible with them. They even took several photographs so that Kaiser wouldn't forget them, fifty years have passed since then.

Kaiser: Mom.

He wept inconsolably, watching Fern on her deathbed and holding her hand. Frieren clenched her fists tightly; it hadn't been enough time, not enough.

Fern: Kaiser, you are the most beautiful bond I've shared with Frieren-sama. Obey her commands and become someone very strong.

Kaiser left, leaving them alone.

Frieren: Fern, I...

Fern silenced her lips with a finger, smiling, then cupped her face.

Fern: A part of me stays with you.

They intertwined their fingers as tears began to well up in their eyes.

Fern: I hope you'll visit us in Paradise.

Frieren responded by kissing her lips passionately. Words weren't her strong suit, so this was the only way she could express herself: desire, love, longing, gratitude. There were so many things Frieren wanted to tell Fern, but there wasn't time. Frieren cursed to the time for being so short, for taking Fern from her side so soon.

Stark: Don't cry, Kaiser.

Kaiser: Uncle Stark.

Stark: I don't have much time left either. I want you to become strong.

He said, stroking Kaiser's head.

Stark: And I hope you'll visit us in Paradise.

Kaiser hugged him, weeping inconsolably. Stark died five years after Fern and since then they had been alone, yet together.

End of Flashback.

Kaiser: There are so many things I want to tell Uncle Stark and Mom.

Kaiser had kept Stark's sword and cared for it so well it looked brand new.

Frieren: Me too.

Kaiser: Come, let's start this journey soon. After all, my time is nothing like eternity even though I am very close to her.

Frieren: Let's go.

Narrated by At:

Once, they went to see Serie, who told them that Kaiser's lifespan would be equivalent to three-quarters that of the longest-lived elf. So, without a doubt, there were millennia ahead—millennia of adventures that Frieren would share with her son, millennia that would continue the bond Fern had forged with Frieren, an indelible mark of their love and their story that would endure intensely in Frieren's memory.

The End.

.......This is the end of the story. I hope you enjoyed it.......

Notes:

I've been fascinated by the connection between Frieren and Fern and how the factor of time influences their relationship and that's why I brought you this installment.
