Work Text:
Kon stretched out his arms and relaxed as his back popped. He’d just finished a shift cleaning up a city street in the aftermath of The Chained.
“You’re Kon-El, right?” He turned to find an older blonde teen girl standing on the sidewalk looking at him.
He grinned. “That’s me. And you’re Lena? Sorry we couldn’t do proper introductions earlier. There was kinda a lot going on.”
“There was,” she agreed. She looked sort of overwhelmed but doing her best to hide it. “I wanted to thank you for that by the way. For saving me from Stryker.”
“All in day’s work,” he replied.
“Right, yeah, that makes sense. Just another day as hero for you,” she muttered.
Kon frowned as he considered if he’d been too flippant with his comment. She was also fidgeting like she had something more she wanted to say, but couldn’t get it out.
“You want to get some pizza?”
Lena looked up at him startled.
“I don’t know about you, but after all this action I’m starving. There’s a great place just a couple blocks down, I bet they’ve opened back up already.” He explained.
“I could eat.” she answered.
“Great, follow me.”
The pair of them sat down in a booth and Kon sprawled out in his half. Ordering had taken longer than he’d expected. Lena had a hesitated over the options on the menu for a while. He was beginning to wonder if she’d ever been to a pizza place before, but it seemed rude to ask. Still—
“So we’re siblings right?” His brain screeched to a halt and he looked over at Lena who was staring at him intensely. “I know Lex kinda sucks, but you’re partially cloned from him and I’m his daughter, so that makes us something, doesn’t it?”
Kon considered his words carefully. “I don’t really think of myself as having parents. Kal’s more of brother to me if I had to put a label on it. As for Lex, I prefer not to think of him at all if I’m honest. But ignoring him doesn’t mean I have to ignore you. Yeah, a sister, That’d be nice. It’s been a while since I had one.”
She frowned, “You had a sister before?”
“Roxy, she was someone I was really close with to when I was living in Hawaii. I’ll tell you about her some other time, if you’re sticking around in Metropolis?” He asked.
Lena nodded, “I don’t really want to go back home with Grandma. I was thinking about asking Mercy for a job at Supercorp.”
Kon hesitated, “I don’t trust Mercy much more than I do Lex. But I will admit, they have been doing good work lately. And I can’t imagine why Mercy would turn you down.” He paused and then snapped his fingers as an idea came to him. “Tell you what? You ask and when she says yes, we’ll go out and celebrate somewhere.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, it’s what family does. They celebrate together.”
She smiled, “I’d like that.”
“Sounds like a plan. What’s your favorite kind of food?”
She shrugged, “I mostly grew up on a lot of premade frozen stuff. It was all sorta, whatever, you know? I don’t think I really have a favorite food."
That was tragic. Food was one of the best parts of being alive. Not having a favorite food? Incomprehensible to Kon. “Anything you want to try? The world is your oyster and the options are truly limitless.”
She started to get that overwhelmed expression again. He began to realize from her earlier comment that she’d probably never been to any kind of restaurant before, and saying pick anywhere in the world was maybe a few too many options.
“Tell you what, we’ll keep it classic Americana this time and get burgers, sound good?”
Lena looked relieved, “Yeah, Big Belly Burger is The place to go right?”
He grinned, “100%. Gotham can hype up Bat Burger all they please, nothing beats Big Belly. In the meantime though, I think our pizza is ready.”
He got up and floated over to the pick up counter, left a big tip and came back with the food.
She opened one of the box’s up and looked at the double pepperoni pizza curiously. “Smells good.” She picked up a slice and took a bite. “It is good!” She exclaimed.
Kon picked up his soda and cheersed at her. “Welcome to Metropolis, Little Sister.”
