Chapter Text
If you asked Wei Wuxian if he had deserved to die, he would say yes every single time. So when he was brought back to life by Mo Xuanyu, he wouldn’t of said he was thrilled. But, he knew that it was a second chance, a chance to make everything right with the people who he had wronged. Those who were still alive, anyway.
Wei Wuxian quickly changed his mind, however, when he instantly came across Lan cultivators. And then Lan Wangji. He managed to skilfully avoid him for a while, trying to not let him find out who he really was but that changed quickly. He didn’t know how Lan Wangji found out but one look from him and Wei Wuxian knew that he knew.
That’s when Wei Wuxian ran. Something in him wanted to stay and beg Lan Wangji to forgive him for all the wrongdoings of his previous life but the stronger, much larger part of him wanted to run and never look back so that’s exactly what he did.
Unfortunately, his luck didn’t last for long and while he was wondering around some streets, someone covered his mouth with something and held that something over it until he lost consciousness. The only thing he registered before that though was the robes of someone. Yellow robes.

When Wei Wuxian woke up, the first thing he noticed is that he was laying on a somewhat comfortable bed. The next is that he felt quite cold. Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and looked around. He was in some sort of nicely decorated dungeon. There was the bed which he was laying on, a dressing table and some carpet of the floor. The room was lit up with torches but no matter who nice the room looked, there was no doubt that it was a dungeon and he was someone’s prisoner.
The was only confirmed when he heard a door unlock and someone walk into the room. Wei Wuxian vaguely recognised the person, who wore the yellow robes of the Jin sect but he couldn’t place where he could have known them. The person walks up to him and sits down on the bed, next to his thighs, wearing a kind smile.
“It’s good to see you awake, Wei-Gongzi. You were asleep for quite a while. I suppose it isn’t surprising. You were just brought back from the dead after all. You’re body must be adjusting.” The person spoke. Everything in Wei Wuxian was screaming at him not to trust this person, no matter how kind they seemed to be. “Oh! Introductions! My name is Jin Guangyao but you would have known me and Meng Yao when you were still alive. You can call me A-Yao though.”
Recognition flashed Wei Wuxian’s face. He vaguely remembered a Meng Yao but he had obviously changed quite a lot since Wei Wuxian had last seen or even just heard of him. He had no idea what he was going to do with him though. He seemed nice but Wei Wuxian knew that he probably didn’t have any type of good intentions. Especially since he was in a cell.
“Now,” Jin Guangyao stood up and started walking around the room. “I am aware that Hanguang-jun knows that you are alive once more, and he will most likely be looking for you. However, I do not feel like letting you free quite yet. I don’t want everyone finding out some of my secrets after all.”
Wei Wuxian stayed quiet. He knew he should have never been brought back from the dead. Now he has to deal with someone who wanted him to be theirs. Death would be a mercy that he knew he would not be granted anytime soon. Jin Guangyao looked back at him, still smiling. He walked to Wei Wuxian and grabbed a fistful of his hair before yanking him to the floor.
Wei Wuxian couldn’t help but yelp and try to struggle but Jin Guangyao was stronger and had the upper hand so he was quickly sub dewed. “What are you going to do with me?” He whispered. Jin Guangyao let go of his hair, instead putting a hand around his throat and squeezed.
“I just want to have some fun. Don’t worry, you won’t die again. I won’t let you. That would be too good of a fate for you Wei-Gongzi.” Jin Guangyao chuckles as he squeezed his throat even more. Wei Wuxian tried not to squirm too much which was hard given that he couldn’t really breath. “No, Wei-Gongzi, I’m just going to hurt you, and make you wish that you were dead once more.”
With that, Jin Guangyao let go of his throat and he started gasping for air. Without the hand on his neck, which was his only support with staying somewhat upright, he almost hit his head on the floor, only just managing to catch himself with an arm as he continued spluttering. He just knew his throat would be bruised.
Wei Wuxian felt a couple of tears fall down his face. He didn’t even know why he was crying. This wasn’t the worst thing he had been through, yet, but he didn’t think he had ever felt so hopeless. Jin Guangyao started running his hand through Wei Wuxian hair, shushing him quietly. “It’s okay Wei-Gongzi. You’ll be alright. I don’t plan to keep you forever. Just for a while and then you’ll be free.”
Wei Wuxian knew that was probably a lie, or if it was the truth, it would not be nearly as simple. Wei Wuxian closed his eyes and then felt himself be lifted and gently deposited back onto the bed. He was starting to get whiplash from how Jin Guangyao was acting. One moment he was kind, he next he was strangling him.
Wei Wuxian opened his eyes and saw Jin Guangyao still smiling. He was starting to hate that smile. Eventually though, Jin Guangyao left the cell, locking it behind him and Wei Wuxian was left alone in his cell. He still didn’t know why it looked so nice.
He sat up on the bed and looked around the room again. He’d be damned if he was going to stay here and let Jin Guangyao do whatever he wanted with him. So, he got up off the bed and went over to the door. It was a solid wooden door that he guessed had a massive lock on the other side of it as when he tried to open it, it didn’t even slightly budge.
He resolved himself to looking around the rest of the room, especially in the dressing table draws. There was nothing and the dressing table itself appeared to be bolted to the wall. So he checked under the carpet, and under the bed, and he searched everywhere he could think of to ultimately find nothing.
Wei Wuxian sat on the bed, defeated. There was no paper of pens so he couldn’t make any talismans. His demonic cultivation? No, he didn’t have enough energy to use that safely. And even if he did manage to escape the room, he had no idea where he was being held, or what security measures waited for him outside the room.
He was completely at a loss of what to do so he resorted himself to just sitting on the bed, waiting. There was nothing else to do, nothing to entertain himself with and he knew that Jin Guangyao would eventually be back and maybe if he mentally prepared himself enough, it wouldn’t be so bad.
