Notes:

Title: Communication
Pairing: Peter Bash/Jared Franklin
Rating: 15+/R for the tiny bit of sex in this
Summary: The guys are getting intimate when Jared senses that something is wrong.
Notes: This is part of my one word collection where the single word prompt will be the fic title. Prompts are taken from this list and will be of varying lengths. Since I've rarely met a fandom I didn't want to stray into, there will be tons of different ones and various pairings.

Work Text:

Peter is quieter than usual which is making Jared doubt himself. He usually likes this position because he can see Peter's every expression.

"You okay?"

Peter nods but Jared stops his thrusts.

"You're not okay. You're usually more vocal, you usually enjoy this. You look like you're sitting through a boring meeting."

Peter pulls him down for a kiss but even that feels like a distraction. Pulling out of Peter he takes off the condom and leaves Peter's bed temporarily to dispose of it.

"I said I was fine." Peter gestures at his cock. "Did I not seem interested?"

"Part of you did. Come on, dude, we're not those people who have sex instead of telling each other what's wrong. At least I don't want to be." He lies on the bed next to Peter and leans on his elbow so he can see Peter's face clearly. "Truth time, oath of friendship. What's wrong?"

Peter looks like he wants to say something but instead he just shrugs. The upgrade from friends with benefits to boyfriends is still relatively recent and Jared isn't sure how much to push this. They have been together practically all the time, maybe that's it. "Do you need space, time to yourself or whatever? I won't be offended."

"No. Sometimes but that's not it. I wanted to have sex with you when we got home, when you kissed me, when we came in here and got naked and even for the beginning part. It's me, I started thinking about work and all the stuff we have to do. I love you so don't get upset at this but usually we'll each have our own thinking time before we start bouncing ideas off one another. I just got in my head thinking about whether all this sex makes me a worse lawyer."

"It was one case and Judge Miller is..."

"I know. Look, Jared, I'm sorry that I didn't just say something earlier. I'm not blaming you for the loss or even myself."

Jared believes Peter, they're not perfect but he knows what Peter sounds like when he's serious. "I love that you're my boyfriend now but we kinda ended up living together by default and I'm in your space all the time. Do you want me to sleep in my room tonight?"

"No! Stay please. I like you in my space, especially the space you vacated a few minutes ago."

"Ew, Peter. You need to work on your dirty talk."

Peter takes his hand and gives it a squeeze. I am so sorry that I was too distracted to enjoy the sex. I might just go in a bit early tomorrow to review the stuff I'm working on."

"Forgoing sex for work is quite mature when you think about it."

"You take that back," says Peter grinning. "I got a rep to protect."

Jared can't help but smile back, Peter's been a light in his life since they met and it's nice to be with someone who knows all about his dad and that whole bullshit. He leans in and gives Peter a quick peck on the lips.

"I'll make it up to you tomorrow."

"I'm not with you for sex, Peter. I'm not keeping score. It's nice don't get me wrong but we're more than just that, like Grease 2 references apparently."

"Yeah yeah, all that mushy stuff for me too. Night."

He moves a little, his hand in Peter's still. "Goodnight, boyfriend."
