Work Text:

"Good evening, I'm Yor's husband, Loid Forger!" A bloodied Twilight announced as he entered through the door.

"Hey... I said I needed a boyfriend, not a husband." A shocked Yor whispered into his ear.

"Shit." He cursed under his breath, realizing he had mixed up his mission with hers.

After her co-worker tried to embarrass her in front of him, even going as far as calling her a 'whore.' He defended her. Talking about her deceased parents and how she had to raise her brother all alone. It's something that he truly admired about her no matter what circumstances she had to take or go through. She did it all for her brother. He already knew then that she would be the perfect mother for his fake daughter. They soon left the party after to drive her home until they were suddenly hit by another car. Twilight identified them as a few remnants of the Smuggling Ring. He looked back at the art pieces wondering if they had implanted a tracking device on one of them.

"Loid?"

"Y-yes?"

"Who are those people?" Yor asked him.

He tapped on the steering wheel nervously, trying to figure out what to tell her. What could he tell her? That they were thieves and he took back some art pieces they stole because he coincidentally saw them? No, she'd rat you out already. "Um, it seems like some of my patients have yet to recover." He lied.

She stared at him for a bit, "being a doctor must be so tiring."

She actually believed it!?

"Yeah... Well, anyway, in the mean time we'll make a break for it!" He said as he sped through the highway and parked in a secluded alleyway. The thieves eventually caught up to them and started tracking them down. They quietly made their way through the alley. Just as they hit a corner, Twilight came out holding a crate knocking them out. Yor looked down at them, a bit concerned at his tactics.

"Yor, this way. Let's hurry." He said as he pulled out a pipe from the side of the building.

The two ran further down the alleyway. Yor questioned his methods for knocking out his patients and he explained that it was a modern medical practice known as concussive recovery method. She didn't question it any further as she continued running with him. He started to question whether she was bright or just dumb. He noticed a thief sneak up behind them with a gun in his hand. He immediately went in front of her and threw the pipe at him. Another ambushed him from above with a knife but he had no time to dodge it. He was screwed, or, was he?

He watched as the man went flying towards the wall and saw that Yor had actually kicked him. He was in disbelief. Just what kind of woman was she!?

"Oh, no! I'm so sorry, an amateur like me helped with the recovery." She apologized, putting her hands over her mouth as she explained to him about how she was an expert in self-defense, lying that her brother was the one who happened to teach her. Twilight got up and started laughing, he looked up at her and thanked her for saving him as she looked down at him with a slight blush on her face.

"That was impressive. Did you see how far he went?" He chuckled.

She smiled sheepishly, "I'm sorry. I guess I did send him flying."

They heard someone round a corner and looked over to see a man holding a rifle as he signaled other people of their position. He started firing at them as the two ran away unharmed. They continued down the alleyway, knocking out two more men and pressed on.

"Um, Loid, this may not be the best time to ask but, why don't we get married?" Yor asked causing Twilight to lose his balance and fall over. She stared at him in shock and concern.

"I'm sorry?!" He asked her confused. Married?

"I meant it in a way to... extend our agreement." She explained as she looked down at him. Could she trust this man? He was kind enough to agree to being her boyfriend and he even showed up to the party for her. Could she actually trust him with her secret job? She looked at him with furrowed brows as she let out a sigh. She was going to take a chance with it and if he was going to rat her out to the Secret Police - she'd kill him. "I won't hide anything from you but, I feel like I can trust you. So, please just hear me out?"

He stared at her for a bit as he got up from the ground and dusted himself off. He nodded at her to continue and that's when she told him everything. Her job as an assassin, how she works for Garden and takes out 'clients' that are a threat to her country. Her brother doesn't know about her job because she can't find it in herself to tell him. That was the one thing that had him wondering. How could she trust a total stranger over her own brother?

"Wait, why trust me with all this?" He asked her. "A total stranger over your own brother?"

"Because all of this was for him." She told him as she looked down at the ground. She joined Garden at such a young age to be able to provide for her brother. Killing people left and right just to make sure there was food on the table for him every day. Making sure he had everything he needed for school and even preparing him for his first job. A future where he could finally live in peace and not worry about anything. "I... I don't want to ruin his image of me."

He furrowed his brows at her. Much like her, he strived for peace. A world where children didn't have to cry. While he didn't know the pain or struggles of raising someone, he knew how it felt to be all alone and he knew that's how she felt. So, he decided to take his chance at it too and tell her everything. "Then... I feel like I should be honest with you as well." He said.

He told her about him being a spy from Westalis and she instantly put up her guard but, once he let her know that he wasn't hear to start a war she calmed down. He explained everything. From Operation Strix, to Anya, and up until now - her. He even explained how the men that were chasing them until now weren't patients, they were thieves from a mission he took awhile ago. She stared at him for a bit, processing everything that had been said to her. He decided to break the small silence between them.

"You still wanna stay married to me?" He asked her.

She looked over at him as she let out a small smile, "I do."

His eyes widened at her in surprise.

"Your secret's safe with me, Twilight."

He blinked at her a few times before letting out a smile. "Then we should stop by city hall on the way back to fill out paperwork."

"Right now?"

"There's no time like the present, right?" He told her as he reached into his suit pocket for the ring he intended to give her. He realized there was a hole in his pocket and looked back at the unconcious bodies wondering where he could've dropped it. He heard a few shouts and immediately grabbed onto Yor as he pulled her along with him to hide behind a metal crate. He noticed a grenade on the ground and grabbed it.

"Yor," He began as he pulled the pin from the grenade. "Even in sickness, or in sadness..." He continued as he threw the grenade over at the thieves. "No matter what hardships await us," He said as he put the grenade pin on her ring finger, the grenade exploding behind them as he held her hands in his, "let us be there for one another."

"Yes." She said.

"Until my mission..."

"Until my killing..."

"...do us part." They said in unison.

The next morning came and Yor was outside waiting with boxes of her things behind her. Twilight stepped out to greet her with a smile which she returned. They each carried her things into her own bedroom. She told him to be careful with a specific box because it contained her weapons and poisons. This caused him to look at her in shock as he let out a nervous laugh at her. He'd have to be on his guard just in case. As soon as they moved all the boxes into her bedroom, she unpacked everything in her room and was given a house tour by Anya. She told Twilight about her limited wardrobe and he suggested they go to the tailor's today to shop for new clothes.

They purchased a new outfit for her and Anya and took a family portrait together. They spent the whole day out together and were able to apprehend a thief. At the end of the day, they went home and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee and cocoa with each other as they prepared for the interview at Eden College.

The day of the interview came, a few mishaps happened but they were well prepared for everything. Twilight had to admit, having Yor know about his secret put his mind at ease a bit. He was able to be himself around her without having to look suspiscious. He was able to casually talk to her like she was a colleague of his and they were on a mission. Well, they actually were on a mission but, he was glad that she knew because it meant he could talk to her about it with no worries. At first, he doubted her and expected her to rat him out to her organization or Secret Police but she proved herself to be trustworthy so far.

They sat in the interview together as the Headmasters began asking each other questions. It was no problem for him considering how much he studied on them, he did worry for Yor and Anya because they don't know much about Eden or its Instructors.

"What kind of wife doesn't cook for her husband?" Headmaster Swan questioned as Yor lowered her head down in shame. "You should be stricter with yourself before you worry about that child!" He shouted as she blushed in shame and embarrassment. It was true, she wasn't much of a cook but she was trying her best, wasn't she? She had to admit, the words he spoke hurt.

"Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. She is extremely tidy and excels at keeping our house spotless. She's also an excellent mother to my daughter." He explained to him.

"Yes, well, both of those are things that women are expected to do." He said.

"That's-!"

"It's all right, Loid." Yor told him.

He clutched his hands in anger. 'Yes, Calm down.' He thought to himself. 'Why are you getting irritated, Twilight? She's not even your real wife.'

The questions continued on and with every question that came, Twilight's patience was tested. Why? Why was he so irritated for a family that's not even real? A family that would eventually split once his mission was over and yet, he couldn't stand the way they insulted his fake wife and daughter.

"So which one would you rate higher? Your old mother or your new one?" Headmaster Swan asked.

Twilight narrrowed his eyes at him, "I'd like to respectfully request a different question."

"No. If you do not answer, you lose points." Swan insisted.

Twilight glared over at him as he thought about Anya. He didn't know exactly how she ended up in that orphanage, but if he had to guess then her real parents were probably already dead. He looked over at Anya and saw a tear roll down her cheek.

"Ma...ma... Mama..." She cried, her tears falling on top of her hand and her dress.

"Anya..." Yor said sadly, getting up from her chair and walking over to the little girl.

"I see! So you do prefer your old mother over your new one." Headmaster Swan said as if he just won a prize.

"This is too cruel!" Yor shouted at him as she tried her best to comfort Anya.

"Yor, please calm down." She looked at him in disbelief and anger as if she was telling him how could he just sit there while his daughter was crying? As a spy, he needed to remain calm for the sake of the mission. He could hear the Headmaster talking about students living away from their parents in dorms and questioned Anya's emotional stability at school. He's being slanderous right now, but so what? They were a pretend family. So, why? Why was he clenching his fist in anger? Why did he feel his blood boiling? Why was he so angry that his pretend family was just insulted?

Before he realized it, he held up a fist in anger ready to knockout Headmaster Swan.

'Restrain yourself, Twilight!' His inner thoughts screamed as he punched down at the coffee table in front of him startling all three Headmasters. His knuckles started to bleed as he looked down at it.

"I do beg your pardon." He spoke. "There was a mosquito." He then got up, not caring about the pain in his knuckles. "Thank you for your time today." He told them as he ushered Yor and Anya towards the door. Headmaster Swan shouted at him angrily stating that the interview was not over yet. Twilight turned to face him, "If making light of a child's feelings is part of your establishment's educational policies, then I'm afraid we've chosen the wrong school." He turned towards Yor and Anya again as he opened the door for them. "Let's go home."

The trio returned to their home filled with dread after today's events. Twilight thought about giving up on the mission entirely until Yor and Anya raised his hopes up. They were eventually called back to Eden to find that Anya was on a waiting list but she would only be accepted if a family were to withdraw. Yor looked over at Twilight, a familiar gleam in her eyes that he's seen a few times when she came back from taking care of her 'clients.' He furrowed his brows at her as if saying don't. As much as it would help, he was not trying to kill anyone just for Anya to get into school.

They eventually got the call that she was accepted into Eden College. Franky came over after hearing the news to celebrate and he and Yor got drunk. This was the first time Twilight has ever seen her drunk. Franky suggested that Anya ask Twilight for a reward for getting into Eden and she told him about the castle in her show Spy Wars. He rented out the place, asked his fellow colleagues for backup and explained that this was all for Operation Strix. He, embarrassingly dressed as Bondman, or, as Anya would like to call him, Loidman and fought through his fellow spies to save her.

He made it to the top of the castle where he faced off against a drunk Yor. Twilight knew she was strong, but he didn't know she was that strong. She kicked, punched, and did just about everything to him. He had to admit, she looked kind of hot doing it. He thought she would kill him with one final kick only for her to fall over and sleep on the floor.

Mental note: Never let Yor drink again.

As the days went on, so did the lives of the Forgers. Anya went to school like always and Yor and Twilight had a day off together. Well, Yor did. He had a mission to take care of. He sighed as he got up from the couch and drank the last of his tea. This mission was going to be another stressful one. Yor looked over at him then down at the newspaper on the coffee table. She knew about his missions being written down in random things which is why she was cautious about throwing anything out. She looked back up at him as he pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration which meant this was another late night mission.

"Um, Twilight." She called out to him. She only ever called him that when it was just the two of them.

"Hm?"

"Maybe, I could help out in your mission?" She asked.

"Huh?" He looked at her surprised, "but, these are not like... assassinations missions. It's more of retrieval missions." He explained.

"I know. But, I can help you in case things go wrong. I am a qualified bodyguard." She said confidently.

"Well..." He thought about it for awhile. An assassin on a spy mission? He had to admit, it wasn't a bad idea. If things did go wrong then he'd at least have backup. Yor did say she was able to hide bodies and make it seem like they never existed. He didn't know how but he took her word for it. Besides, he couldn't keep taking Franky along with him. He looked over at Yor who was waiting for his answer.

He smiled, "okay, I guess you can help out. Just promise me you won't kill anyone until I give the okay."

She let out a chuckle as she nodded her head at him and they were on their way towards their first mission together.

Turns out that they worked well on missions. They were so in sync with each other people would think they've been partners forever. Because she helped out with his missions, he decided to help out with hers and if it just so happens that their missions were at the same time and place? They'd go together. It's become a routine for them to help each other out. They became so comfortable with each other that they practically flirt on rooftops before and after missions every now and then. He'd often call her "Princess" and she didn't mind. Their constant flirting eventually led to their first kiss.

Yor has never kissed anyone before. So when she kissed Twilight for the first time, it was like fireworks went off in her head and butterflies danced in her stomach.

Twilight has kissed many women in his life but nothing compared to the way he felt when kissing Yor. He felt like he could kiss her forever.

It happened one night after they finished a dual mission together. Twilight wiped some remaining blood on her lips with his thumb, he realized how close he was to her face as he stared deep into her eyes. Scarlet ones staring into icy-blues. Before they knew it, they had closed the distance between them pressing their lips to one another. He pushed her against a wall as he kissed her - desperately. Her fingers ran through his hair as she pulled him closer and he loved the feeling. They pulled away to catch their breath and stared at each other in surprise.

Twilight messed up. He messed up big time. He was not supposed to get involved romantically with anyone. Especially not with an assassin. If WISE caught wind of this, they'd drop him from Strix immediately and transfer him elsewhere.

"Twilight, I-" He looked over at Yor, who averted her gaze and stared down at the ground. "I'm sorry. You shouldn't get involved with me. I'd only get you in trouble. I think it's best if... you find another wife for Operation Strix." She told him.

Maybe that would be best. He could get Nightfall on the job and they could carry out the mission together. Just two spies, with no romantic interests in one another. Nightfall was always trying to become the best, wasn't she? By the end of the mission, they'd continue on with other missions and forget about the whole thing. Anya would be taken care of in a new home and family and Yor would move on and find someone who loves and cherishes her.

His heart ached when he thought about it. He could not bare the thought of Anya in another home. And Yor... His heart ached just thinking about her with another man. Kissing him, hugging him, marrying him, having his kids... No, he couldn't bare it. He couldn't deny it anymore and he didn't care. He wanted her, no, needed her in his life. He wanted to come home to her and Anya everyday, have their usual family outings at their favorite places, and just spend the rest of their lives together in general. And if WISE found out about them? Then they can fuck off. He'd run away with them and live their lives in peace. He looked up at Yor, tears running down her face. He placed his hands on her cheeks and pulled her in for another kiss. It was filled with a need, desire, and desperation. It was him telling her to stay with him because he couldn't live without her.

"But, Twilight... Your mission." She sobbed.

"We'll finish Operation Strix. No matter what." He told her.

"If WISE finds out, they'll have you replace me or worse... They'll drop you from the mission entirely." She told him.

"I don't care. We'll run away together. As long as I have you and Anya, I don't need anyone else." He said as he kissed her again.

She pulled away from him and smiled. "As much as I'd love to run away with you, we can't."

"But, why?" He asked, feeling his heart sink.

She placed a hand on his cheek as she stared into his eyes, "you and I became what we are now for one thing... We can't abandon that now. Anya's future relies on our mission."

He held her hand and placed a small kiss on it. She was right. Even if they did run away, who's to say they'll be able to truly live their lives in peace? He remembers the bombings on his hometown, watched as his childhood home burned down right in front of him and how that was the last time he ever saw his mother. He did not want the same thing to happen to Anya.

He smiled at her as he pulled her into a hug and felt her arms wrap around him. "Let's go home."

She pulled away from him, "to Anya." She smiled.

What started out as a fake marriage soon turned into a love that was real. They decided to keep the fact that they knew their identities from their organizations. They also decided to keep their real relationship to themselves, they were already married anyway so people already assumed they loved each other. So if they were to kiss and hug in public? Well, maybe it's more than just for show.
