Rules
1. There is absolutely no room in the Speculation Archive for homophobia, transphobia, racism, ableism, etc. Don’t be a bigoted loser.
2. On a similar note, don’t be hateful. If you disagree with me on anything I talk about, that’s fine, but don’t go around and insult or mock my opinions. It’s unnecessary and rude.
3. NSFW is not allowed. (See FAQ for further details)
4. For requests, please don’t ask for the same thing more than once. If you’ve commented something, it’s highly likely I’ve seen it and have taken it into account. It might take a while for me to get to your request, but I’ll try my best!
5. Leave non-fiction topics out of the discussion when possible. I’ll let you know if ‘real life’ is applicable to anything I write about.
Other rules may be added over time. Please check back in every once in a while to see if I’ve added or removed anything.
FAQ
Q - How does the Speculation Archive work?
A - I (Rat) will be posting analysis on various topics relating to fandoms, characters/characterisation, theories, etc. Each chapter will focus on a singular topic.
Q - Will the chapters be updated, or is it just the FAQ?
A - The chapters may be updated with the release of new information, but it’s not going to be common.
Q - Tell me about yourself.
A - That’s not a question, but okay. My name is Rat, and I’m an American college student who’s way too into media analysis. I use he/they pronouns, and I’m pansexual. I’m really into linguistics, literature analysis, art + animation, and, of course, writing and editing. I listen to music constantly, and I like any song that has a beat, lmao. I’m super excited to share this project with you all.
Q - What fandoms are you in?
A - Yikes, this is a hard one. I’m in an almost embarrassing number of fandoms, but I’ll shorten the list to just ten: MHA, BSD, ATLA, SK8 the Infinity, CRK, ANLST, TMNT, PJSK, KNY, and Stranger Things. If you want me to talk about a fandom that you aren’t sure I’m in, then ask, and I’ll let you know!
Q - How do the requests work?
A - If you want to hear my thoughts on a topic, just ask me about it on any of the Speculation Archive socials. This means the Tumblr blog, the AO3 fic, and the TikTok account are all open for requests. It can be as specific or vague as you want! If it’s something I can’t turn into a chapter of the AO3 fic, then I’ll make a post about it on either TikTok or Tumblr, depending on various factors. If it’s something that I’m not comfortable answering at all, then I’ll let you know.
Q - What would make an inappropriate request?
A - If you don’t think it follows all of my rules, then it’s probably not appropriate. You can ask if you really aren’t sure, but try to keep that in mind before asking anything.
Q - Will you ever discuss triggering topics?
A - Yes. Whenever I post a chapter that might trigger anyone, I will put warnings in the beginning notes. If you think I missed a TW that is needed, please let me know. Never put yourself in an uncomfortable position when reading my analyses, and remember to take care of yourself. My writing can wait for you to be in a better headspace :)
Q - Will you ever discuss non-fiction?
A - No. The only exception I would make to this is topics relating to “IRL fandoms” (e.g. K-pop and other celebrity fandoms). Otherwise, I’m going to keep everything strictly fictional.
Q - Is it okay for me to debate your topics?
A - Absolutely. In fact, please do. If you disagree, I want to hear about it. Of course, keep it polite, but I’m always open to debate.
Q - What does it mean that NSFW isn’t allowed?
A - I won’t ever talk about strictly explicit topics. I might mention some explicit things (especially when discussing relationship dynamics), but I won’t ever make a chapter focused on sex or sexual dynamics between characters. NSFW is especially prohibited when I write about teens/children. I’m never going to talk about a minor’s sex life, obviously.
There’s no harm in asking questions, so please feel free to inquire about anything you want! If you aren’t sure if your request is appropriate for the Speculation Archive, it’s okay to ask anyway, and I won’t be offended or anything unless you ask with the intent to be harmful, of course.
