It could be the night blurring his vision, reminding him that he is too tired to go much further. It could be all the worry. Now, caught, it could be the guilt in disappointing someone he loves so much. Still, he swallows the lump in his throat. Shakes his head. Refuses to turn.
“Mako.” Low and deep, not one edge to the sound. Bigger, stronger hands tie a warm scarf under the boy’s chin.
“Where does she go?”
Under the gentle push and pull of the sea, a sigh. Through the haze of tears, Mako notices the brightness of their eyes meeting and quickly looks away.

The suggestion came in loud, cutting his words short as well as grabbing everyone's attention. Although Lucas had just offered something similar, the words didn't seem to hold the same weight coming from Mike. Will's heart picked up as his eyes landed on the boy, who seemed oblivious to the sudden shift in the air. He was met with this familiar gaze — the one that made him feel like he was the only one in the room —, intense, focused, but also incredibly genuine. The others exchanged looks that Will couldn't quite decipher as Mike kept going.
"I mean I'd love to have you there."Or : After graduation, Will is set to spend a pretty lonely summer as his friends all have plans of their own. That is, until Mike suggests they stick together.
