Chapter Text
Steve Harrington is the perfect babysitter. He’s never been affected by the upside down or anything else. That’s not true.
Steve’s life sucks. He hates himself. He’s just trying to put everything in the past and just live his life. Sure he’s still hiding his powers and PTSD but it’s not bad.
Yes, he has powers. He can see/hear? colors. Steve never told anyone but it’s had lasting side effects. He went deaf by 5 and has to use hearing aids.
He is living happily with his partners/soulmates and the party. They all live with him now(including the older teens and adults). He’s happy, definitely…
10:00 PM
“All right you little shits.” Steve said, sitting on the couch. “This is the last movie then you have to go to bed.” Groans filled the room
”Why?” Max groaned out, slouching over in her beanbag.
“Because you need sleep.” Steve chided and before getting up. “And you have school tomorrow.” Mike scowled and glared at Steve.
”Dibs on the movie!” Dustin shrieked, scrambling for the remote. The living room turned into a war zone, all of the kids squabbling for the chance to pick the movie.
”Quiet down,” A voice grunted from the hallway. Hopper stood there, a small smile on his face. “Kid,” he said, addressing Steve. “I’m working late tomorrow so I won’t be home.”
“Okay dad. Make sure you tell El.” Hopper nodded and turned away.
Steve glanced behind him and smiled. Somehow the fight for the remote had turned into a nap. All of his kids had fallen asleep on top of one another and were curled into each other. It wasn’t a rare thing, especially after Vecna had gotten Max. And me, Steve remembered the day, and how he had barely saved himself.
He hadn’t noticed at first, when the dreams started. He usually had nightmares and these were nothing new. Then he started getting nosebleeds. The first time it happened, he was dropping off Henderson. After he had gotten out of Steve’s car, Steve had felt something trickle down his face.
He wiped it away and had glanced at his sleeve. Red. Blood. He knew the signs of course, knew what nightmares, headaches, and nosebleeds meant. But he didn’t tell anyone. Max was the one they needed to save, not him.
Then he saw Vecna. Steve had been alone his huge, empty house, getting ready for his kids to come over. He closed his eyes for one second and then he woke up in his backyard.
“Hello Steve,” Steve whipped around and there was Barb. “Are you finally here to apologize?” She looked dead. Her skin was flaky and pale, but there was a green hue to it. Her eyes were pure white and there were claw marks everywhere. She was missing an arm.
”I- I’m so-“
“Your what, sorry?” Barb cut in, scowling. “Yeah sure Steve. Be sorry, be sorry after I drowned in your pool. Be sorry because you were to busy fucking my best friend to realize what happened.” Barb’s face twisted into a sort of smile. “Be sorry Steve.”
Suddenly he was somewhere else. He was at Starcourt. Or more accurately under the mall. In the Russian base.“Who do you work for?!”
“Scoops Ahoy!” Steve screamed, his voice raw and desperate. “I already told you!” A sharp hit landed on his face.
”Stop!” He whispered. The scene spun once again and now Steve was standing in front of his parents.
“You’re such a disappointment” His mother tsked, looking at him.
“Girl’s don’t wear pants Stephanie.” The scene spiraled and Steve collapsed.
Bullshit!!
Then you tough it out,
You’re just confused
Bullshit! It’s all bullshit
”Hello Steve~” Vecna cooed. Somewhere in the back corner of his mind, Steve could feel himself floating. Then his walkie crackled to life.
“How much longer till you guys get there?” Max.
”Not long,” Will
”Steve, you better have my candy!” Erica. My kids, Steve thought desperately. They can’t see me like this… Steve wrestled out of the vines and ran towards the voices. Slowly he watched a portal open and he saw himself floating next to his walkie. He leaped out of the portal, ignoring Vecna’s scream. He fell to the floor and shakily took a deep breath. Then he grabbed his walkie.
”Yeah, don’t worry, I have your candy.”
Steve shook his head and stood up. He tossed a few blankets over the kids before heading to his room. Chrissy and Billy were already lying there, asleep. Eddie was sitting in a chair, working on new DnD campaign.
“Hey baby,” Eddie mumbled as Steve walked over. Steve pressed a small kiss on his forehead before heading to the bathroom.
“I’m gonna go to sleep after I change,” Steve informed him. “You should go to sleep babe.” Eddie nodded and slowly stood up.
”Ok,” Steve smiled softly and shut the bathroom door. He pulled of shirt and pulled a baggy shirt with some faded band logo, out of closet. He slowly took off his binder and folded it up. He tucked it behind some towels so it wouldn’t be discovered by his partners. He pulled the shirt on and changed in shorts.
Steve stepped into the room and smiled. Eddie had been into Chrissy’s grip and was fast asleep. Steve opened the door and shut it softly, stepping out of the room. He’d rather his partners not know that he had nightmares, or wake them up from his screaming. Besides he didn’t usually sleep, so there was no point in going to bed.
