Work Text:
“You- You told me you'd be there.”
The crown jostled in his hands, uncontrollable trembles almost made him drop it.
“That we’d get out, together”
He was sobbing now. The clink of the metal hitting the concrete of the porch rang in his ears so hard they hurt. Tugging on the other man's shirt, making him stumble.
“Seven,”
A pause. A beat of silence
“Seven. Look at me.”
Noli was begging now.
“I can’t- fuck- what did you do?”
That only made Noli sob harder
“I did this for you.”
7n7 looked down, almost disgusted.
Coolkidd was clutched to his chest harder. He wanted to puke, cry and scream at the same time. This wasn't Noli It couldn't be There was no way This isn’t real.
“Seven-”
He stepped back once, then twice
“No. Your- your not noli. This is all a bad- horrible dream.”
He was going to be sick, seriously now. The bile rose in his throat His hand flew to his mouth, Coolkidd was screaming now. It was all too much. Just looking at Noli made him sick. The way the flesh hung from his face, how he smelt. Those beautiful curls he had loved so much- fraying. Falling out.
He hadn’t talked to Noli in months, not since their argument. He didn’t think he’d actually do it. Getting the voidstar had always been a dream for sure. Unlimited power. The things you could do with it? It was something 007 had wanted for such a long time.
When he had kept pushing Noli to take it, Steal the voidstar. He hadn’t imagined the consequences, even if he had- he couldn't have imagined something like this.
No. This was.. God he didn’t know what it was.
Horrific? Terrifying? Sickening?
Maybe all of them mixed into one hair raising, stomach twisting joke.
He puked then, doubling over and shifting the squirming sobbing baby in his arms to shield it from the violent motion.
He was sure he’d pass out. How was Noli even alive? Rotting on his doorstep at 1:30 in the morning.
Nothing made sense. He should be dead. The voidstar, it should've killed him.
Did he want that? Noli to be dead- you should be grateful, Sev. To have someone love you so much that they'd offer up their body to make you happy. Quit being so selfish.
His own voice rang in the back of his mind.
Maybe, just maybe if this had been before their fight- before coolkidd before any of this- He’d be.. Glad. Relieved even, that Noli had done what he was told.
What an awful person he'd been.
What an awful person he was.
Noli was still at his feet. Begging him to come back.
Was that what this was about? Him retiring?
Seven didn't know what to think of that. What to even make of a concept like that.
He misses you. He loves you.
What a pleasant thought that would've been in any other circumstance.
But no, here he was. Middle of the night and his ex dying with the voidstar crying on his porch.
“Noli-”
He watched Noli tremble.
“Please. I can’t do this without you.”
His voice shook, his grip tightening and shifting sporadically.
“I can’t.”
That almost made him faint.
“You can’t?”
The anger that bubbled up came too fast- too violently.
“What the FUCK do you mean you can’t?”
Noli’s head whipped up, glaring at Seven’s Vomit stained face.
“I did this for you, Seven. I did everything for you. You cant just- just turn me away”
He started to laugh, a strained, painful sound.
“You can’t be serious.”
Seven grimaced. Noli scowled.
“Noli.. I.. I told you why-”
“Because of some brat? Some kid that you don't even know? Suddenly now your a good guy? What happened to everything we stand for?”
Noli snapped at him, standing and snatching the crown from the floor.
“Seven- you hate kids, you hate the law and shitty packaged noodles-”
Noli’s voice grew strained. Glitchy.
“You aren't a father. You're a hacker, seven. You can't just ditch me.”
Silence
“You're not going to ditch me right?”
Noli's voice cracked.
Seven couldn't respond. It felt like his throat was closing in on itself.
Coolkidd stopped crying.
Noli’s chest heaved.
“You're going to regret this. You’ll regret everything”
He spat the words. It made Seven wince.
“I love you-”
Noli was already gone, crown clutched in one hand.
Seven collapsed then, hysterical. Inconsolable.
