Fictional Adventure Demo

Summary:

Here's a tiny demo story for a tool I made. Fictional Adventure lets you use Twine to make fancy interactive "Choose Your Own Adventure" style fics.

The passage ends in a chamber that is empty except for two identical chests.

You know the drill. One's real, and the other's a mimic. Are you feeling lucky?

The passage ends in an empty chamber. One one wall a word is scrawled: "Xyzzy."

You grab the combination lock and put in the first digit.

You finish entering the code. The lock fails to open. You guess you'd better keep looking for the right code.

You finish entering the code. The lock clicks, and the door swings open.

You exit the dungeon.

You win!

This tiny demo was made using Fictional Adventure, a story format for Twine that can publish to AO3.

Check out the how-to guide here!

You look up. The word "gullible" is written on the ceiling, but crossed out. Below that is written the words:

The first digit is "4".

You carefully approach the chest. Leaning down, you gingerly open the latch and lift the lid...

"Hey!" the chest yells at you. "I'm trying to sleep here! Buzz off!"

You found the mimic chest! But maybe it knows something?

You carefully approach the chest. Leaning down, you gingerly open the latch and lift the lid...

You found the real chest! But it looks like it only contains dust, a dead rat, and a sword rusted beyond all use.

Well, dang.

"The door code?" says the mimic. "I don't remember the whole thing, but I think the middle digit was '2.'"

You thank the mimic for the information. Faint snoring is the only reply.

Poof!

A crumpled note appears in your hands. It reads:

We apologize for the inconvenience, but the magic teleport system is currently down for maintenance. We ask adventurers to take an alternate route through the locked door to the east. The code is printed below.

— Colossal Cave Transit Authority

The ink is smudged so you can only make out the last digit of the code, "9".

You are in a dungeon. Stone walls surround you on all sides.

To the north is a sturdy wooden door. You can see daylight shining through the gap below it. Freedom! But on the door's latch is a combination lock, preventing your exit unless you know the three-digit code.

Passages stretch to the east and west.
