Work Text:

It was evening outside, and clouds were gathering in the sky. "It's going to rain," thought Lilia, looking out the window, he was sitting on a small sofa in the living room. There was a warm atmosphere around, the burning wood in the fireplace spread warmth around the room, and only the noise of burning wood and a small game could be heard around.
Without thinking twice, the fairy turned his gaze to the floor, where his son was playing on the carpet. A little boy was playing with two carved figures, a knight and his horse. He seems to be so old, but also so small. How fast his Silver was growing, faeries were growing much slower than humans, he knew that, but seeing his own child growing so fast made him sad sometimes. Fairy children don't get back on their feet until they're 20, and Silver? Silver was able to do it before he was two years old.
"Dad?" - a high - pitched child 's voice was heard compared to the noise from the coals in the fireplace
What if his silver boy leaves earlier
"Dad, what are you thinking about?" the boy asked again, coming up to the sofa, still holding the knight and the horse in his hands. Silver placed one of his toys, the knight, on Lilia's lap.
This action still brought Lilia out of his thoughts, he looked down, first at his knees, and then looked at Silver's face.
"Oh, did you ask something, Silver? I'm sorry, your father didn't really hear you, lost in his thoughts." Lilia said softly, stroking the boy's already well-grown hair.
"I asked, 'Dad, what are you thinking about,'" Silver replied, smiling.
Lilia smiled warmly and removed the knight from his lap, after which he took his son under the armpits and sat on his knees, once gently poking his nose with his finger, which made the boy laugh softly.
"Well, you know, there are many topics to think about, about the past, about the future, about the present. For example, now I'm thinking about how my silver boy has grown up," Lilia replied, hugging his son.
Silver clapped his hands joyfully once, hugging Lilia back. Lilia and Silver sat like that for a while, quietly and calmly, but it didn't last long, lightning flashed outside the window, and almost immediately a downpour began. Strong enough.
Silver shuddered and snuggled a little closer to Lilia, to which Lilia gently stroked his back, saying softly
"Don't worry, my little knight, it's just rain. It is a natural element, and it should not be feared, especially by brave knights. Aren't you a brave knight?
"Y-yes, Dad," the boy replied softly, rising up, taking the toy knight in his hands, After thinking for a bit, he continued "I am a brave knight, I will protect you from the storm!"
After saying that, Silver got off Lilia's lap, standing on the floor in a pose like he was holding a sword.
"That's a good boy, my little protector." Fairy replied, patting his son on the head for the first time that day, "How do you like the idea of drinking warm milk and going to bed?"
"But Dad! I am a knight! I will stay up all night to protect you! - The boy said joyfully
"I'm not sure if it's been all night," Lilia whispered softly with a smile, remembering how easily Silver could fall asleep. Silver didn't hear this.
In the end, Lilia got up and headed towards the kitchen, and Silver trailed after him like a little puppy.
Silver was watching his father from behind, and he saw something. He saw the differences. He had seen them for a long time, but for some reason now he decided to take a closer look at them. Dad has pointy ears, like everyone he saw next to his father, Malleus for example. Dad has black hair and red eyes, a slightly more upturned nose and a pointed chin. What about him? He has rounded ears, silver hair, a straighter nose, chin, and auroral eyes, as his father called them. But... Why doesn't he look like Dad?
When he came out of his reverie, Lilia had already taken the milk out of the cupboard and started pouring it into mugs.
"Dad?" Silver asked quietly.
"Yes, Silv?"
"Dad, why don't we look alike?" Silver asked once more, looking at the differences between himself and his father again.
"Huh? Should we?" Lilia answered the question with a question, turning his head towards Silver
"Well ... yes? You're my dad, and other kids are like their parents," Silver muttered, not understanding his father's reaction.
Lilia chuckled in response, starting to heat the milk slightly with magic
"Well, other children are related by blood to their parents. But we don't." - Lilia replied, turning her head towards the mugs again, as if it were an ordinary everyday conversation, for example, about what kind of food to cook today "Did you think that you were my blood son?" Lilia asked, not thinking about how his words might sound.
There was a sharp intake of breath from behind, after which Lilia heard the sound of small feet stomping. He quickly turned his head back towards Silver.
"Silv?" - he did not see Silver in the kitchen, and tried to think why he ran away from the kitchen, after which he heard something that made his blood freeze for a second. The sound of the door opening, he wasn't expecting anyone tonight, if anyone opened it, it was his son. "Silver!"
Lilia quickly forgot about the glasses of milk and ran towards the hallway, where he saw only an open door and a view of a dark night forest where trees were swaying from side to side from the force of the wind, due to the raging elements.
Lilia couldn't understand what offended Silver so much in his words...
