Sunlit dreams

Summary:

Elizabeth wakes up in a regular, normal day. Truly, it's a blessing how she can wake up to a morning like this.

Merry Christmas, here's my first Bloodquill fic

Work Text:

Elizabeth was the one that wakes up first between the three of them. It's a habit, a contract formed between her body and her expectations. Her mind was strong and resilient enough to work on three hours of sleep, sometimes less—rarely more. She would be the last one to sleep, and be the first to wake. Nowadays, she's achieved a continuity of five hours of sleep, sometimes six if her wives pull her into bed earlier.

Elizabeth was never one to lounge in bed in the morning, not unless the strenuous activities from the night before forced her body to rest.

She thought nothing of it when the sun slipped through the curtains of their shared room, hitting Elizabeth at just the right angle. She let out a slow sigh through the nostrils, quiet as she blinked her eyes awake, her body slowly recalibrating herself and the situation she's in.

Here's the reality of the day, coming to Elizabeth in the slow hum of an early morn.

She's sleeping on the edge of the bed, on the left side specifically. Her body was facing outwards, where it was with ease the sun hit her on the face. There was a hand curving up and around her waist underneath the blanket, Nerissa's she would assume, because Shiori was rarely ever a hugger.

(Shiori was a weight. Someone that liked to press itself against another person, looped arms only to anchor herself to them in the middle of the night. On the bad nights, she would wrap herself to anyone, desperate to feel warmth when all her body craved suffocation and tight spaces. On the fun nights, Shiori was the one who always initiated the intertwining of hands, fingers, gripping the sheets, hairs, clothes and—on the very very rare occasion, horns.)

Elizabeth sighed through her teeth, barely making a sound. Her wives weren't snorers, but both were very sensitive to sound for entirely different reasons. Elizabeth mastered the art of silent manoeuvring for their sake, and so it was with ease did she sat up and turn her body towards the rising sun.

Except the hand, now empty of a perch shifted upwards, holding onto the closet thing—Elizabeth's wrist. She tugged it once, and Elizabeth sighed louder (not enough to wake Shiori on the other side, just loud enough to signal with fondness, that she was caught). Elizabeth turned her head, smiling as she looked upon her lovers.

Nerissa was facing her way, but her face was buried into a plushy, one arm was stretched behind her, no doubt something for Shiori to hold. Her loving bird hummed, raising her head just above the fluff of her plushy. Her eyes remain shut.

"Liz…" she whined, tugging her dear wife once more. "Stay…"

Elizabeth chuckled, her heart lulling into that comfortable fullness that always came whenever her wives said her name laced with sleep. She leaned forward, kissing Nerissa once on the strands of her bed-head hair, and then a second on the base of her horn. Underneath her lips, Nerissa slipped out a pleased sigh, squeezing Elizabeth's heart.

Yet her hand only tightened, still insistent in lazy pulls to drag Elizabeth back to sleep.

"I must not be so sloven, my love," Elizabeth murmured, a careful eye watching over Shiori on the other side of the bed. The last thing she wanted was Shiori waking up as well. "There's work I need to do." Such as breakfast, and training and making sure the Bloodflame Kingdom was doing well.

"You're always working," Nerissa moaned, curling her fingers, nails lightly scratching at her inner forearm. She twisted her head, pulling away from Elizabeth as her other hand began to paw at Shiori's body. "Shiorinnn, make Liz stay."

"Liz do what your wife tells you to do," was Shiori's lazy reply, already half-awake and slurring with a content sigh. "Or else I'll punish you."

"I'll make you breakfast in bed?"

There's a smile in Shiori's voice, heard even when it's muffled. "Don't tempt me, Elizabeth."

"Shiorinn," Nerissa mumbled again. This time, Elizabeth calms her down with a kiss on the lips, something gentle—but she pulled way before Nerissa could lift up her other hand to hold her—a mistake made in hindsight as Nerissa grumbled louder. Her eyes were insistently shut. "She's teasing me, Shiori."

Shiori sighed, and before Elizabeth could defend or accept her fate of sleeping in, Shiori already turned around and pulled Elizabeth down to her level. Her hands held Elizabeth's cheeks, lips already pressed warm and soft against Elizabeth's. Elizabeth melted into her touch, eyes closing as she allowed herself to sink, body already over Nerissa's like a weighted blanket.

Below them, Nerissa grinned, enjoying the view of her wives kissing in the morning, the same way one enjoyed the rise of the sun over the hilltops.

Shiori pulled away after a moment has passed. A chuckle left her lips as Elizabeth, on instinct, followed her lips for more. She was stopped with a gentle, amused flick against Elizabeth's ahoge, and Elizabeth opened her eyes to Shiori's golden hues chastising her for her greed. With a gentle shove, she pushed Elizabeth back into Nerissa's awaiting arms.

"Go to sleep, Liz," She crooned. She tilted Elizabeth's head up with her the tip of her finger, in the same breath she leaned down to give her bird a kiss. A reward for her patience. "Be a good girl for me." she says against Nerissa's lips. Nerissa giggled into the kiss, delighted by the turn of events and the way Elizabeth tucked her arms around her waist beneath the blanket, her usual sign of her readying to sleep.

Elizabeth nodded. Her mouth stumbling, half-dry at the simple sight in front of her, her two wives kissing, her eyes already half-lidded. Shiori pulled away again before she looked down and intertwined their hands together, just because she can.

"I'll go make breakfast," She said, stretching her arms. She gave them both a playful look that was equally a warning. "Don't eat anything without me~"
