Work Text:
“I made friends who were never even supposed to be my friends.”
As Dustin’s voice reverberated through the stands, Robin slipped her hand into Steve’s. In a low tone, she said, “You can’t ever tell him that we’re together.”
Steve leaned in closer. “No?”
“No. He’ll freak out.”
“What? Henderson’ll love it. You have no idea how much he’d love it.”
“Oh, I know how much he’d love it. That’s the issue.” Robin pulled their joined hands onto her lap and rubbed her thumb over the back of his hand. “He’s going to love it too much.”
Steve shot her a quick, tender glance, a lovely smile adorning his face as he did. It took a great deal of restraint not to lean over and kiss him. Instead of throwing herself onto his lap, Robin squeezed his hand. Steve squeezed hers back, tighter.
