Work Text:
The bell rings in St Agnes, and all the children run out of the study into the yard. Sister Maggie watches them from the Sisters’ common room upstairs; she’s too old now, her bones too frail for rowdy kids.
When she turns away from the window, she grabs her cane and joins Matt and Frank. Officially, they’re friends; she knows it’s more complicated than that.
“He used to spend recess in the library,” she says.
“A nerd already, uh?”
“It was fifty years ago, Frank.”
Maggie listens to their bickering, closes her eyes on her regrets.
Vulnerant omnes, ultima necat.
