Vickie&Robin against season 5

Summary:

Vickie thinks Robin is addicted to Benzos.

Vickie learns about the upside down.

Vickie gets a happy ending because I said so.

...

3 drabbles squished together that explore a tiny bit more of Robin/Vickie over the course of (and after) season 5.

(if you have title ideas I'd love to hear them!)

Notes:

Disclaimer: romance and fluff isn't really my area of expertise, so the 3rd section is smaller than the 1st two, but I hope to be back to expand it eventually!

Work Text:

Oh my god, Robin was addicted to Benzos.

Vickie paced back and forth in front of the (severely lacking in medicine) medicine cabinet in the patient’s room. Robin had been acting strange lately, canceling on an Enzo’s date three times already with a fourth planned that would likely never happen. Fidgeting more, hanging out with her strange circle of friends that included Jonathan Byers.

Vickie liked Jonathan, she did, but ever since he came back from California she would catch a whiff of whatever-the-fuck he was smoking when passing him on the street. The reek of earth and burnt things clung to him like a jealous lover, and Vickie stopped going to the amateur film club at the library that he happened to attend. If he thought he was being subtle, he wasn’t— Ms. Byers has already come in a few times to ask about support groups for substance addicts ‘for a friend’.

And now Robin is stealing drugs.

She would have to report this. Her girlfriend needs help, and, to be frank, Vickie was scared for her. So scared. It’s been hard with the town on lockdown and the pressure of preparing for a future, no wonder Robin’s anxiety skyrocketed. She just wished she saw it sooner. Helped more.

It took a little over half an hour before Vickie finally meandered to the front desk, taking her time refilling the nurses’ stations and changing out bedpans. But here, face-to-face with Doris, she couldn’t delay any longer.

“I need to fill out a report for some stolen medication. I… I think I know who it was.”

Robin, eyes wild, stood in front of her begging her to believe. “These are not hallucinations!” With the story of the wizard and the dream world and the creatures and the, the everything, her concern for her girlfriend’s health–that already started astronomically high–ballooned.

Vickie didn’t believe her. Until she did, and death was staring her in the face.

“Holy shit, holy shit, holy shit.” Now, with the smoking remains of that thing next to the washer, Vickie had to come to some scary conclusions very fast.

Lucas led the way back to some sort of meeting house under the WSQK radio station, and she finally felt like she could breathe. Everyone was alive, everyone was relatively ok, and their comatose friend had regained enough consciousness to begin chatting with the others.

Apparently, the small group they had wasn’t everyone who knew about this crazy government cover up, and the real planning had to wait for a few more. It was Vickie’s turn to feel high on Benzos. With everything that happened, she still wasn’t convinced she wasn’t.

“Hey. I think you deserve a better explanation than the one you got.” Robin had shifted her way into sitting on the neglected couch with her. “You want to get some air?”

God, Vickie didn’t deserve her. She nodded, and allowed herself to be led to a small break room area on the upper floor. The window was open, bringing a gentle breeze. The pair sat down at the small folding table, and Robin told her everything.

That wizard guy was dead, thank god. The upside down effectively eradicated, and the military all but kicked out of Hawkins. It wasn’t long after that when Robin had asked her to move to Massachusetts with her, and of course Vickie said yes.

Sitting on their bed in their small studio apartment, they were happy. They would be moving soon, to a two bedroom where Steve could move in when he finally found a teaching job here. Life was good; Vickie wouldn’t have it any other way.
