Summary:

Seungmin has been secretly crushing on his senior, Bang Chan, for a long time and finally gathers the courage to confess. When the confession doesn’t go as planned, he decides to hide his feelings by putting on a façade and what is the better way to do that than fake dating Chan’s arrogant best friend, Lee Minho.

spoiler alert - Things do not go the way he thought

Notes:

Hit me up if you're feeling lonely
I can get you feeling more cozy
Watch you like a hawk now, Tony, Tony, yeah
I just want you to look at me
Love ain't blind, but you're all I see
Maybe gonna be just you and me, you and me

Work Text:

“Seungmin, snap out of it!” Felix’s deep voice pulled Seungmin back from his LaLa Land, “I know you like Chan but can you like not make it so obvious?”

Huh? How long has he been staring at Chan?

“I really need to get a grip, don’t I?” Seungmin laughed, he had been crushing over his senior for a while and he definitely cannot be blamed for it, his kind smile, sweet honey voice, soft eyes and his super sexy body, it’s all a little too much for Seungmin’s poor heart. BangChan was flawless, well almost flawless since his choice in friends is quite questionable, particularly his best friend, Lee-biggest asshole on the planet-Minho.

If there was a universal law stating that every good thing had to be ruined by one extremely annoying thing, that thing would be Lee Minho. Chan’s best friend. His human leech. Minho had a talent for appearing exactly where Seungmin didn’t want him to be, usually draped over Chan like an unwanted accessory, laughing too loud and acting like the world was his personal stage. Seungmin despised him - so so so much. Whenever Seungmin would try to talk to Chan, Minho had to jump in between, making everything about his evil devilish self. Always trying to steal Chan's attention as if he was not attached to him the whole day. And you know what’s hilarious? He knows. he fucking knows. He never cared to be subtle about it. Every time their eyes met, Minho’s mouth would curl into that irritating smirk, like he could smell Seungmin’s misery from a mile away.

Still, Seungmin figured he had nothing to lose. He’d been pining for far too long anyway. Maybe now was finally the time to confess. He knew Chan spent the majority of his free time in the music room, and tomorrow-Seungmin was almost certain-he’d find him there alone. Minho had a dance lesson during that time. Oh! Yes Yes Yes. He decided to approach the blonde senior to make sure his plan works, "Felix wait a second I will meet you in a second" as he walked to Chan's table which was unfortunately also shared by Lee Minho.

Seungmin tried his best to ignore him and directly approached Chan "Hey, Chan" Seungmin's greeting was reciprocated by a gorgeous smile from Chan along with a sweet 'hi'. He leaned casually against the edge of the table, crossing his arms as if this was a completely normal interaction and not something he had rehearsed in his head a hundred times.

“I was wondering if I could talk to you tomorrow, right after lunch.”

“Tomorrow? Oh yeah why not. I’ll be in the music room.” Chan hummed thoughtfully.

Minho chose that exact moment to insert himself into the conversation, “Wow,” he said lazily. “You asking him out or something?” this bastard.

Seungmin didn’t waste a second before replying with a nonchalant 'no' while Chan gave a firm look to him.

Chan shook his head, clearly used to this. “Ignore him. What did you need, Seungmin?”

“Just wanted to talk,” Seungmin replied easily. Too easily. “Preferably without commentary.”

Minho placed a hand over his heart. “Wow. I feel so unwanted.”

“You are,” Seungmin said without missing a beat.

A series of to and fro continued between the two. Some brutal insults were thrown here and there which occasionally earned a 'too far' from Chan while some classics like 'your mom' and 'eat shit' failed to move anyone.

Through it all, Seungmin remained calm, delivering every insult with the same detached tone he might use to comment on the weather. Minho, on the other hand, looked like he was having the time of his life.

Eventually, Seungmin straightened, checking the time on his phone. “Anyway,” he said calmly, directing his attention back to Chan, “I’ll see you tomorrow” he said as he walked away.

Behind him, Minho leaned back in his chair, smirking. “That was… interesting,” he commented. “He was pretty locked into the character, did not stutter once, acted quite nonchalant.” Chan looked up from his laptop, frowning. “Interesting? What was interesting?”

Minho tilted his head, a slow grin spreading across his face. “Oh, come on. Don’t play dumb. He came here, all calm and casual, asked to talk to you, and then just walked away. Like nothing happened.” "Just so you know, I have no clue, about whatever you are saying" Minho smiled. “I mean… that ‘walked away like a boss’ act? Very suspicious. Either he’s hiding something, or he’s secretly plotting to kill you. Maybe both.”

Chan gave him a flat look. “Minho, are you serious?” “Dead serious,” Minho said, leaning closer. “And the way he avoided eye contact with me? That was calculated. Oh, this is going to be fun. Just wait for tomorrow Channie, its gonna be real fun"

Seungmin pulled a baby blue sweater over his favourite pair of jeans instead of his usual outfit consisting of hoodie and sweatpants, sprayed the perfume he bought from Paris last year, spent an extra minute in front of the bathroom mirror checking his face. He is going to confess his feelings to Chan today. "Just say the damn words okay, the ones you rehearsed" he reminded himself. If he reciprocates- well and good- otherwise walk away. simple.

Seungmin walked down the familiar hallway, trying to keep his hands from trembling. The music room was just ahead, the one place where Chan usually spent his free time. He spotted the door slightly ajar and could already hear the soft hum of a keyboard. Pushing the door open, he saw Chan seated at the piano, headphones half-on, completely absorbed in his music. For a moment, Seungmin just stood there, watching him, heart racing fast.

“Hey, Seungmin,” he said, voice soft and welcoming. Seungmin swallowed hard, trying to steady himself. “Hey… Chan. I, uh… I wanted to talk to you.” Chan tilted his head, curiosity in his eyes. “Talk? About what?” Seungmin took a deep breath. “It’s… personal.” Chan nodded slowly, his smile never fading. “Okay. You can tell me anything.

“Chan… I like you,” he said, the words spilling out faster than he’d rehearsed. “I’ve… I’ve liked you for a month now. I just wanted to get this off my chest”

Chan blinked, surprise evident in his eyes, and Seungmin’s stomach twisted in panic. Chan looked stunned as if trying to form coherent sentences in his mind. “I… Seungmin,” Chan said softly “I’m really flattered. I care about you a lot. You’re incredible… but I see you as a friend. I’m so sorry.”

Seungmin’s chest sank, but he forced a small, bitter laugh. “Yeah… I kind of figured.” Chan’s eyes softened, full of warmth and concern. “I hope this doesn’t make things weird between us. I… I really do value you.”

There was a quiet pause.

“Thank you,” Seungmin said finally, his voice pitched low. “For... listening.” “Always,” Chan replied.

Seungmin exhaled, content of at least losing the weight which had rested on his chest for a while now. He managed a small, sad smile. “I’ll see you around,” he said, attempting a casual tone as he walked out.

And even if things weren’t how he had hoped, he had finally let it out.

It wasn’t as bad as he’d feared. He wasn’t heartbroken, and he certainly wasn’t crying. It was just… a little disappointing. He’d liked Chan, sure-but it was more like an itch finally scratched than a wound. His phone buzzed in his pocket. Felix’s name flashed across the screen. Seungmin smiled faintly and answered.

"So? How did it go" he heard Felix's impatient voice.

“It’s fine. I said it. He... doesn’t feel the same way. But it’s okay. Really.”

“Doesn’t feel the same way?! Are you… okay?!”

“Yeah. I’m fine. Just a little… disappointed. But it’s not the end of the world.”

“You’re way too calm about this. You’re supposed to be devastated!”

"I mean I am sad right now but it’s alright. I would have loved to be with Chan but I can live without being his boyfriend"

"Man, you are one sort of a guy. We will talk about it in the dorm" Felix chuckled. Seungmin slipped his phone back into his pocket and pushed himself off the wall, walking toward the exit.

A few days had passed since the day Seungmin confessed to Chan and he was alright really. But there was one big problem. Mr Christopher Bang himself. He has been overly sweet to Seungmin and it was not in the way he usually was. And it ...annoyed Seungmin. It was almost like he could taste the feeling of pity radiating from Chan and Seungmin hated being pitied. The remarks that were filled with guilt instead of authenticity irritated him. Besides there was also something else... Chan's stare, his longing stare towards Seungmin's direction ...But the stares were not directed towards Seungmin.

Felix, his best friend Lee Felix

And honestly hell yeah. He totally can see it; Felix was an angel in human form and anyone would be a fool not to notice him. Seungmin saw a liking towards Chan from his best friend too. The way he would glance in his direction once in a while when he thought no one was looking, the slight smile on the mention of his name. It was obvious. It was cute. His inner cupid was coming out, he needs to set them up. But he knows Chan, he knows that he would never make even the slightest of move on Seungmin's best friend.

Ughhhh

He hated this. Hated Chan's pity. Hated that he possibly ruined Chan's chances with Felix.

His stupid crush on Chan had pretty much died, and yes, he is serious. Seungmin is not the one to get attached very quickly. So, he was pretty alright a couple of weeks after 'the confession'.

So, naturally Seungmin started thinking a little too deep into this. And one night, after a long movie marathon he came up with an idea.

Make Chan see that he has moved on.

PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT.

It’s simple. All he needs to do is pretend to date a guy, convince Chan that he is very happy with the guy, give both Chan and Felix the nod to go out and then breakup with the guy. simple.

He had already prepared a little list of requirements for his 'date’ as the step one-

  1. 1. Someone Seungmin does with interact once in while (preferably once in 3 days minimum)
    2. A good actor
    3. Preferably a friend (better chemistry!)
    4. Not a douchebag
    5. Preferable familiar and friendly with Chan

Now for Step two, he needed to talk to Lee Minho. Fortunately, he was pretty low on Minho Interactions in the past two weeks but unfortunately now he needs to talk to him. The plan is easy- extend a hand of peace towards Minho, seek his help by convincing him that Seungmin's plan is beneficial for Chan, ask Minho to set him up with someone acquainted with Chan and move to step three.

He did not plan on finding Minho, but he did anyways.

He was leaning against the vending machines outside the practice rooms, pretending to scroll through his phone while mentally rehearsing what he was about to say, when a familiar voice cut through his thoughts.

“You’re blocking the snacks.”

Seungmin looked up.

Lee Minho stood there, gym bag slung over his shoulder, sweat-darkened hair pushed back messily, annoyance already curling into amusement on his face.

"Oh Minho. Hi" Seungmin tried to keep his tone bright.

Minho blinked. “Oh. It’s you.”

“Unfortunately,” Seungmin replied flatly.

"Hey Hey Hey!" Seungmin tried to keep Minho's attention on himself. "Listen, I wanted to talk"

This definitely caught his attention "Oh! Am I about to be confessed to?" Minho replied, sarcasm strong in his voice.

Seungmin rolled his eyes. “Relax. You’re not that special.”

Minho gasped dramatically, clutching his chest “Wow. And here I was preparing my rejection speech.”

“I need five minutes,” Seungmin said “That’s it.”

"You look serious" Minho said, to which Seungmin just replied “because I am.  Just give me 10 minutes”

Minho jerked his chin toward the quieter hallway beside the lockers. “Come on, then.”

They walked side by side in silence. Seungmin hated how naturally Minho matched his pace, like he’d done it a hundred times before. Minho dropped his gym bag once they stopped, leaning back against the lockers with lazy ease, arms crossing over his chest.

Seungmin inhaled, steadying himself. “I need your help.”

Minho’s eyebrows shot up. “Say that again. Slower.”

"I need your help"

“One more time, I need to get it on camera”. Minho’s voice filled with mischief.

“I’m serious,” Seungmin insisted. “This isn’t some prank.”

Minho straightened slightly, eyes sharpening. “Okay. I’m listening.”

Seungmin looked away for a moment, jaw tight. “I need someone to pretend to date me.”

Minho blinked. Once. Twice.

“...You’re kidding.”

"I am not" Seungmin replied sharply, "just hear me out, yeah?" as he begun explaining his predicament to Minho.

Minho hummed quietly. “So, the solution is fake dating.”

“Yes,” Seungmin said quickly. “Temporary. Convincing. Just enough to make it clear that I’ve moved on.”

Minho crossed his arms again. “And the guy you’re fake dating, does he know he’s fake?”

“Of course,” Seungmin replied immediately. “I’m not lying to anyone involved. No feelings. No strings. Just... acting.”

"This is where you come in". Seungmin explained to Minho, who knows Chan better than anyone would know exactly what convince Chan.

“So,” Minho said slowly, “you want me to help you find someone.”

“Yes. Felix is already out of question, Jisung and Hyunjin have got their little situationship going on, Jeongin likes some guy ..Heli? I guess that’s what he is called, Changbin is going out with a junior and then San is dating Wooy- You get it, right? Most of our mutual friends are not in the picture. This someone has to be single and a good actor”

“And this someone needs to be around you often,” Minho continued, “comfortable enough to sell it, and close enough to Chan that it looks natural.” Minho gave a short laugh. “You basically described one person.”

Seungmin frowned. “No, I didn’t.”

Minho uncrossed his arms and stepped closer, stopping just short of Seungmin’s personal space. “You did.”

Seungmin stiffened. “Minho—”

Minho tapped his chest lightly with two fingers. “yeah, Me.”

"No" Seungmin's replied in a second “You’re irritating, unpredictable, and you enjoy messing with me. It would not work”

“All true,” Minho said easily. “But I’m also believable. People already assume things when we’re together. And Chan already watches me like he’s waiting for something to happen.”

He grabbed his bag, slinging it over his shoulder, then paused. “Think about it,” he added lightly. “You already trust me more than you want to admit.”

Seungmin regretted it the moment he woke up.

The sunlight filtering through the curtains felt offensive, like the universe was personally mocking him for the decision he’d made at 11:41 p.m. He lay there for a few seconds, staring at the ceiling, replaying Minho’s whatever you wish for, princess in his head and immediately wishing he could revoke his free will.

By the time he checked the clock, it was already 5:12.

“Great,” he muttered, throwing the blanket off. “Fantastic.”

He got ready slower than usual, caught himself overthinking stupid details—Is this too dressed up? Too casual? Does it look like I care?—and hated every second of it. Eventually, he settled on a simple sweater and jeans. Neutral. Safe. Unbothered. At least, that was the goal.

The café was already buzzing when he arrived.

6:00 on the dot.

He checked his phone.

No messages.

6:03.

Was he being stood up? oh shit. Offcourse Lee Minho would pull a stunt like this. Why did Seungmin even believe him in the first place? Fucking bastard, this was humilia-

“Wow,” a familiar voice said behind him. “You look stressed.”

Seungmin turned sharply.

Minho stood there, jacket slung over one shoulder, hair styled like he’d put in just enough effort to be annoying about it. He checked his watch theatrically. “Relax. I’m three minutes late. Practically early by my standards.”

“You’re unbearable,” Seungmin said flatly.

"I know" Minho was quick to reply.

"Anyways" Seungmin took a breath. “Let’s set some ground rules.”

Seungmin started “Rule one. This is strictly temporary.”

“Obviously.”

“Rule two. No unnecessary touching. No making it weird.”

Minho raised a brow. “Define ‘unnecessary.’”

“Anything you do,” Seungmin said immediately.

Minho laughed. “Harsh.”

“Rule three,” Seungmin continued, ignoring him. “We tell no one the truth. Not Chan. Not Felix. No slips.”

Minho nodded slowly.

A server approached then, breaking the moment. They ordered- Seungmin a coffee, Minho something iced and overly expensive and only once they were alone again did Minho speak.

“So,” he said casually. “How do you want this to look?”

“Believable,” Seungmin replied. “Low key. We don’t shove it in anyone’s face.”

Minho hummed. “Chan’s observant. He’ll notice small things.”

“Like what?”

Minho leaned forward slightly. “Consistency. Sitting together. Walking together. Inside jokes.”

Seungmin frowned. “Inside jokes?”

“Relax,” Minho said. “We already argue like we’ve known each other forever. That part’s easy.”

Seungmin hated that Minho was right.

“And,” Minho continued, “we don’t announce it. We let people figure it out.”

Seungmin nodded slowly. “That.... actually makes sense.”

Minho smirked. “Told you I was good at this.”

“This is fake,” Seungmin said suddenly, like he needed to hear it out loud.

Minho met his gaze. “Yeah. Fake.”

Their eyes lingered a beat too long.

Minho looked away first. “So. When do we start?”

Seungmin hesitated.

“...Tomorrow,” he said. “Let’s not drag this out.”

"Okay then" Minho said as he stood up "See you tomorrow then, ...boyfriend"

The next day arrived far too quickly, and with it came a very deliberate shift in Minho’s behavior- subtle, controlled, and infuriatingly effective. He didn’t overdo anything. No exaggerated flirting. No loud declarations. Just small, deliberate things that made people look twice.

Minho sat next to Seungmin during breakfast instead of across from him. When Seungmin slid his tray forward, Minho wordlessly nudged his drink closer, like it was a habit. When someone asked Minho a question, he answered without looking away from Seungmin.

Nothing dramatic.

Everything intentional.

Seungmin noticed Chan noticing. Not immediately, but he did notice. The blonde's eyes lingering a little too much around Seungmin and Minho were quite an obvious sign of that.

This is working, he told himself. That’s the point.

Felix, on the other hand, noticed instantly.

He dropped into the seat across from Seungmin, eyes bouncing between them. “So,” he said casually, “did I miss a chapter?”

Seungmin opened his mouth.

Minho beat him to it.

“We’re taking things slow,” Minho said smoothly, reaching for Seungmin’s fork and stealing a bite like it was nothing.

He narrated the story they had practiced, how they both ended up kissing after a heated argument and decided that yeah maybe this is something worth trying. Seungmin is not very proud of this story but he likes to believe that it was better than Minho's ' we two just decided to the fuck the tension out and now bang, we bang" story.

Felix stared for a moment longer, then grinned. “Well. Didn’t see that coming.”

“Neither did I,” Seungmin muttered.

By lunchtime, the rumors had done their job.

Nothing loud. Nothing obvious. Just whispers. Curious glances. The way people subtly shifted when Minho slid into the seat beside Seungmin without asking. The way Minho leaned in when Seungmin spoke, like he didn’t want to miss a word.

It was exhausting.

Minho, meanwhile, looked like he was thriving.

“You’re doing that thing with your jaw again,” Minho murmured as they waited in line.

“What thing?”

“The ‘I regret every decision I’ve ever made’ thing.”

Seungmin sighed. “You’re enjoying this way too much.”

Minho smiled, soft and lazy. “I told you I’m a good actor.”

“You’re a menace.”

“Your menace,” Minho corrected.

Chan didn’t approach them immediately.

Instead, he observed. Quietly.

He noticed how Minho always waited for Seungmin before leaving rooms. How Seungmin leaned just slightly toward Minho when they sat together. How the bickering had shifted- less sharp, more;.. comfortable.

It confused him.

But it didn’t hurt.

If anything, it made sense.

A few days later, Chan started doing… things.

Small things.

Subtle things.

He started inviting Felix to sit with him more often. Asked him to help with lyrics even when Changbin was around. Complimented him, gently like he was afraid of crossing a line that didn’t exist yet.

Seungmin noticed.

Oh, he noticed.

“You see it too,” Minho murmured.

Seungmin exhaled. “Yeah.”

Felix caught Chan watching him once and flushed, ducking his head. “What?”

“Nothing,” Chan said quickly. “Just...  you’re easy to work with.”

Felix smiled. “You too.”

Seungmin glanced at Minho. “They’re hopeless.”

Minho smirked. “We should help.”

So they did.

Minho started conveniently dragging Seungmin away whenever Chan and Felix were mid-conversation.

“Bathroom,” Minho would say, grabbing Seungmin’s wrist.

“We literally just-” Seungmin protested, already being pulled away.

“want to makeout right now so please excuse us.”

Chan blinked. Felix laughed.

The process continued... for days

You changed the contact from Lee Minho to Lee menace😾

Seungmin told himself that the stupid flutter in his chest was irritation.

Purely irritation.

Because Minho had no business texting kiss* like that. No business making his phone buzz at 16:27 in the afternoon when Seungmin was very much trying to focus on literally anything else. No business being...  whatever this was.

He locked his phone and shoved it into his pocket like it had personally offended him.

“Everything okay?” Felix asked, glancing over from where he was sprawled across Seungmin’s bed, chin propped on his hands.

“Yeah,” Seungmin said too quickly. “Just Minho being Minho.”

Felix hummed, eyes narrowing with interest. “You say that like you’re not smiling.”

“I’m not smiling.”

Felix tilted his head. “You’re doing the thing with your mouth.”

Seungmin scowled. “I hate you.”

“No, you don’t.” Felix grinned. “So. Update. Chan asked me to help him with a melody tomorrow.”

Seungmin’s heart did a small, traitorous leap before he smothered it.

“That’s great,” he said genuinely. “See? Told you it’d happen... I think he will finally ask you out”

Felix laughed, then paused. “...You’re really okay, right?”

Seungmin met his eyes. No hesitation this time. “Yeah. I really am.”

And he was. Strangely so.

Because whatever he’d felt for Chan had long since settled into something warm and distant. Like a song he used to love but no longer played on repeat.

Minho was unbearable.

He waited for Seungmin outside class, leaning against the wall like he’d always belonged there. When Seungmin approached, Minho pushed off without a word and fell into step beside him, close enough that their shoulders brushed.

“You’re late,” Minho said casually.

“You don’t own my schedule,” Seungmin replied.

Minho hummed. “True. But you do walk slower without me.”

“I do not.”

Minho slowed his pace deliberately.

Seungmin slowed too.

They both noticed.

Neither commented.

By evening, Minho cornered Seungmin outside the dorms.

“Walk with me,” he said.

“That wasn’t a question,” Seungmin noted.

“Nope.”

They walked anyway.

"Did you do that?" Seungmin asked Minho while they walked

"Do who?" Minho teased and received a well deserving forehead flick from Seungmin for this.

"I am asking if you well motivated Chan" Seungmin questioned.

Minho glanced at him sideways, lips twitching. “Yeah. I did.”

Seungmin slowed his steps. “What did you say.”

“I told him the truth,” Minho replied easily. “That Felix likes him. That he’s not imagining things. And that if he keeps overthinking it, he’s going to miss his chance.”

Seungmin exhaled, shoulders dropping. “That’s it?”

“Well,” Minho added, dragging the word out, “I might’ve also said Felix deserves someone brave enough to choose him.”

Seungmin stopped walking entirely this time. “Minho.”

“What?” Minho shrugged. “It’s not wrong.”

“Hey,” Minho said suddenly, softer. “You’re doing okay with all this, right? For real.”

Seungmin looked at him. Really looked at him.

Minho wasn’t smirking. Wasn’t teasing. His expression was open, unreadable in a way that made Seungmin’s chest tighten.

“Yeah,” Seungmin said quietly. “I am.”

Minho nodded, satisfied.

"So" Seungmin asked when they were eating lunch together while Chan and Felix mysteriously disappeared. "Will he ask Felix out soon?"

"I don't know, but i think we are closer to that day" Minho replied

"Chan asks Felix out, they date" Seungmin started

"and Felix Bang-chan" Minho interrupted

"Minho stop, you are not funny, anyways they date and then we break up, publically" Seungmin continued

"yeah" Minho said.

"yeah" Seungmin copied.

Exams were fucking hectic.

Mission Chanlix was officially on hold; right now, his only priority was passing. Being a law major was not a job for the weak, something Seungmin had been painfully reminded of over the past few weeks. He couldn’t remember the last time he’d slept the recommended eight hours. Heck, he wasn’t even sure when he’d last crossed five. Most nights, Seungmin studied until his eyes burned, just enough to pass the exams.

And even on the nights he didn’t study, he stayed awake.

Thinking.

About

Lee Minho.

Minho, who brought him coffee almost every morning, made exactly the way he liked it. When Seungmin had asked how he knew, Minho had only shrugged and said, “Remember our first date?” Minho, who waited outside the exam hall after every paper. Minho, who showed up with food when Seungmin forgot to eat. Minho, who would text him a simple "sleep." every night.

Minho.
Minho.
Minho.

Whatever was wrong with Minho

Whatever was wrong with himself.

Seungmin woke up to Jisung's loud voice yelling "Seungmin" "Minho". what? oh! right, he was supposed to be studying for his last exam in the cafeteria while Minho studied for his but he slept. "shh" Minho's soft voice echoed in his ear, Seungmin decided not to open his eyes and pretended to sleep.

"He is sleeping, be quite will you?" Minho whispered.

"Okay man chill" Jisung tried to match Minho's amplitude, "I just wanted to ask you, I am throwing a party coming Friday- all these exams will be done by then... So, you can come if you feel like it"

"Seungmin's sleeping right now, I will ask him when he wakes. I will text you if we are coming"

we

"and you?" Jisung asked

"I said we would come if Seungmin feels like it" Minho was quick to reply.

Minho was gorgeous. It was not really an opinion but an objective reality. In his leather jacket over a plain black tank top, paired with a straight legged jeans, he looked hot. hot hot. If Seungmin did not know better, he would have mistaken him for a fuckboy.

But Seungmin knew better. It was just Minho. Minho, who would 'bang' jokes and laugh, Minho, who would be a menace to everyone on their face but is just a softie by heart. Minho, who-

"Hey" Minho's voice interrupted Seungmin's trance, "you look good, really pretty" he said as he threw Seungmin a cheeky smile.

Seungmin did not think he looked pretty, not when he was standing next to Lee-greek god-Minho.

"Do not overthink now. Trust me, yeah? You look so pretty, I almost forgot you are not my real boyfriend" Minho gave a small laugh, forced laugh, Seungmin quickly caught it.

Something twisted low in his chest, sharp and unfamiliar.

“Minho,” he said quietly, before he could stop himself.

Minho paused, fingers still curled around the strap of his bag. “Yeah?”

“You don’t have to keep saying stuff like that,” Seungmin added, eyes fixed on the pavement. “I know this is… fake.”

There it was.

Minho didn’t joke this time. He didn’t smirk. He just looked at Seungmin, really looked at him, like he was weighing something heavy in his hands.

“I know,” Minho said. Soft. Careful. “I just... forget sometimes.”

Seungmin swallowed. “Forget what?”

Before Minho could respond, music drifted toward them from the open doors of Jisung’s place. Laughter. Voices. Life continuing like nothing inside Seungmin had just tilted off its axis.

Minho cleared his throat, stepping back into character with practiced ease. “Ready, boyfriend?”

Seungmin nodded. “Yeah. Let’s go.”

The party was blasting with energy. Lights low, music loud, bodies packed into every corner.

Somewhere between his third or fourth drink, Seungmin got cornered by Minho.

"Do you wanna dance ...with me?" Minho's voice was confident but Seungmin can sense the excitement with a hint of anxiety in it. "I mean" Minho continued before Seungmin could reply, "it would be better for the plan yes the plan for us to dance together, you know? it would help the illus-"

"yes, i will dance with you" Seungmin shut him off.

Seungmin had seen many beautiful things, but nothing could compare to Minho's way his eyes shined in that moment.

Minho’s fingers brushed his, tentative for someone who usually took up space like it belonged to him. Seungmin let out a slow breath and placed his hands in Minho’s anyway. They fit too easily. Like they’d practiced this without knowing it.

The music was loud, bass-heavy, something upbeat that made the floor vibrate under their feet. Minho guided him through the crowd, one hand settling at Seungmin’s waist.

They started slow. Just swaying at first. Nothing dramatic. But Minho moved like dancing was second nature to him, like his body understood rhythm better than words. Seungmin followed, a little stiff at first, then gradually loosening as Minho’s presence grounded him.

“You’re doing great,” Minho murmured.

“I’m literally just moving side to side.”

Minho smiled. “Exactly. Perfect.”

Seungmin laughed, the sound surprised out of him. Minho’s grin widened like he’d been waiting for that.

They were close now. Close enough that Seungmin could feel Minho’s breath against his temple, close enough to notice the faint scent of his cologne mixing with alcohol and something unmistakably Minho. His heartbeat synced embarrassingly fast with the music.

“This part,” Minho said softly, “is still for the plan.”

“Right,” Seungmin replied. “The plan.”

But Minho’s thumb brushed a small circle against his waist, unconscious and slow, and Seungmin knew-knew- that this wasn’t about convincing anyone else anymore.

He glanced up.

Minho was already looking at him.

Not teasing. Not smug. Just open. Like he’d dropped the act entirely without realizing it.

The song shifted, slower now, softer. Someone cheered somewhere behind them. Seungmin barely heard it.

“You’re staring,” Minho said quietly.

“So are you.”

Minho huffed a breathy laugh. “Yeah. I guess I am.”

Minho searched his face. “Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

And for the first time since this whole ridiculous plan started, Seungmin wasn’t thinking about Chan, or Felix, or rumors, or pretending.

He was just there.

With Minho.

Jeongin was on his 6th round of beer pong, while Changbin was on his 7th drink which is apparently due to his recent breakup. Seonghwa was flirting with Hongjoong after a load of liquid courage, Kai was performing on a sensual number with Yeonjun on the dance floor, Hyunjin and Han were sloppily making out in the corner and Jungwon was talking to Jay about -

Seungmin noticed it all.

But he did not care.

Not when his poor heart was beating like it's gonna come out any moment.

The coffee

The food he would drop by his class

The walks

"we"

"not with you"

"I just forget sometimes"

Lee fucking Minho

He has never experienced a feeling like this, sure he has had crushes, has had dated around but this? This was different. The feelings he gained in these two months with Minho were different, much different to anything he has ever felt.

This wasn’t a crush.

This wasn’t a convenient distraction.

This wasn’t even the stupid, carefully constructed plan he’d been so proud of.

It was more- way more.

He slipped the phone back into his pocket, only to realize Minho had been watching him the whole time.

“What?” Seungmin asked, suddenly aware of the way Minho’s hand was still resting at his waist, firm and familiar.

Minho tilted his head. “You smile differently when you text me.”

Seungmin froze. “I do not.”

“You do,” Minho said easily. “It’s annoying. And kind of cute.”

Seungmin scoffed, cheeks warming. “You’re imagining things.”

Minho leaned in just enough for his voice to brush Seungmin’s ear. “Am I?”

The song faded out, replaced by something louder, faster. People shifted around them, some pulling apart, others finding new partners. But Minho didn’t move away. If anything, he stepped closer, their chests nearly touching now.

"So?" Minho said, a hint of sadness surrounded his voice "is this where we end things?"

Seungmin could not believe Minho is asking him this, "According to the plan, yeah"

Minho's hand reached foreward to caress his cheek, "I don't know if you have noticed, but I am not the most dilligent plan follower."

Seungmin swallowed the lump in his throat, "yeah" he voiced.

Neither of them moved.

Minho’s thumb pressed once more into Seungmin’s waist, grounding, steady. “Say the word,” Minho murmured. “I’ll pull away.”

Seungmin had time. Time to stop.

But he couldn't. wouldn't.

“Minho,” Seungmin said instead, voice barely louder than the music. “If we don’t pull away... this won’t be pretend anymore.”

Minho’s eyes softened. Not victorious. Not smug. Just honest.
“I know.”

That did it.

Minho finally closed the distance between them. The kiss wasn't rushed or hurried, it was soft as if they both were trying to make a point to eachother. Minho held like he was holding something precious, not delicate-precious.

It tasted of relief.

Seungmin’s hands came up without thinking, fingers curling into Minho’s jacket, grounding himself in the reality of it. Minho kissed him like he’d wanted to for a long time, like he’d been waiting for permission he never thought he’d get.

When they finally pulled back, Minho rested his forehead against Seungmin’s, breathing him in.

"I don't know if I have not made it obvious enough, but I like you, Lee Minho and I am done pretending, pretending my heart does not beats exponentially faster the second you look at me, pretending that my days are not incomplete without a simple text from you, pretending that I dont like you ...when i do, more than I have managed to admit to myself" Seungmin spoke his heart out, "Its scary, very scary but I would like to try... I hope you like me too"

“I’d rather be scared with you than pretend with anyone else.” Minho immediately replied, "Seungmin, you do not know how long I have been waiting for this. I have always noticed you, always. I may not have been head over heels over you then, but I wanted you to notice me too. And then you started crushing on Chan, which was fucking obvious by the way, and I just started annoying you just so you could look at me." Minho laughed, maybe at his own stupidity maybe at something else "t did not like 'like' you then but I was close. And then you came up with this stupid plan of yours and fuck me I am just a man after all, I got attached. One week with you and I knew I was a fucking gone case, I was falling, everyday I would find myself deeper, and deeper. I am still falling, and I hope I never stop" Minho finally stopped, his eyes glistening and mouth curved into a big smile.

Seungmin pulled him closer the moment he stopped.

He kissed him.

This time it wasn’t careful.

Minho groaned softly into the kiss, hands coming up instinctively to Seungmin’s waist, pulling him closer like he’d been waiting all night to do that. Their bodies fit together like they’d already memorized each other—hips aligned, chests pressed close, heat undeniable.

Minho kissed like he meant it.

Seungmin did not mind ending the night in Minho's dorm, although Jisung was quite pissed by his roommate locking him out (getting locked out did hellp him end up in Hyunjin's room, so Jisung cannot complain).
