Work Text:

One day, Darcy was on her walk when she got a phone call.
"Hello?" said Darcy. "Yes? Good grief, that's wonderful! I'll tell Heather. Thanks for phoning me. Bye."

Heather Wold was at home. She was thinking about the party her cousin Frieda had thrown. She was glad Tommy and Frieda had made up and agreeing to just be good friends. Suddenly, the phone rang. Heather answered the phone, and much to her surprise…..

"Hello?" said Heather.

"Hello, Heather." said the voice. "It's Darcy."
Darcy explained about the phone call she had received.
"That's wonderful! I have to tell Tommy!" Heather said.
Tommy was out and about on his morning constitutional.
"It's going to be a great year." Tommy said to himself. "No Emerald to boss me around, Frieda and I are friends again, some of my old Australian friends are here in America…."

Tommy had passed the Wolds' place where Heather had just come out.

"Hi, Heather." said Tommy.

"Hello, Tommy." said Heather. "I've got some great news for you."

"What news?" asked Tommy.

"Do you remember Emily?" asked Heather.

"Oh, Emily…." sighed Tommy sentimentally. "Indeed I do, Heather."

"You'll be seeing her any day now." Heather explained.

"Any day?" quizzed Tommy.
"That's right, Tommy." said Heather. "Emily is moving back into Sparkyville!"
"YES!" cheered Tommy. "Emily's coming back!"
Tommy's shout was just enough to send Heather flipping up and landing on her back. Tommy then ran off in excitement.
"I can't wait!" cheered Tommy. "I can't wait at all! Emily's returning! Emily's returning!"

Some days later, in Charlie Brown's homeroom, Dena came to the room.

"Attention please." said Dena. "We have a new student coming in today."
"New student?" said Lucy.

"I wonder who it could be?" pondered Janice.
"Surely they're a quarterback in a football team." said Peppermint Patty.
"I don't know, Sir." said Marcie. "But it could be someone we know already.

But as Marcie had said this, the knob of the door opened, and walking in was a girl with long light strawberry blonde hair with a purple headband in it, and dressed in a magenta pink sleeveless shirt, a matching pink skirt, and red pumps with inch-high heels.

"Wow!" exclaimed Schroeder. "She's beautiful!"
"She's not that beautiful." said Lucy.
"You're more beautiful." Sebastian said to Lucy.

"She's so lovely!" said Mary Stewart.

Charlie Brown eyed the girl. He knew who this girl was.

"Hello." said the girl.

"Class, this is Emily Jones." said Dena.

"Emily Jones!" said Charlie Brown.
"I'm sure you can make yourself at home, Emily." said Dena.
"I'm sure I know most of the people here." said Emily. "Especially you-know-who."

"E….E…." Tommy was at a loss for words. He blushed bright red and his jaw dropped.
"Are you okay, Tom?" asked Spearmint Sammy.
Tommy didn't answer. He was at a loss for words.

Emily then turned to Charlie Brown and Heather Wold.
"Hi, Charles! Hi, Heather." said Emily.
"Hello, Emily." said Charlie Brown.
"Emily! You're back!" Heather cried.
Emily hugged both Charlie Brown and Heather.
"So, are you two still going steady?" asked Emily.
"We sure are, Emily." said Charlie Brown.
"Stronger than before, Emily." said Heather.

"Emily, would you kindly take your seat?" asked Dena.

"Yes, Mrs. Halverson." said Emily.
"Emily. Mrs. Halverson is a bit formal. You can call me Dena if you like."
"Okay, Dena." said Emily as she picked the seat right next to Tommy.

"She's sitting with me!" thought Tommy.

"Hi, Thomas." said Emily as she pulled him in for a hug.
"Hello….. Emily….." Tommy sighed dreamily.
"He must've really been pining for me all this time." thought Emily.
Emily looked down at Tommy as he fell over and off his chair.
"Thomas?" Emily said, clicking her fingers. "Come back, Thomas. Come back."
"Why? I'm so much happier here." Tommy sighed dreamily.

Dena handed Emily her class schedule.
"Let's see….." Emily said. "All good."
"Emily!" said Darcy.
"Darcy! So happy to see you!" said Emily.
Both Darcy and Emily hugged each other.
"Hi, Emily." said Heather Wold.
"Heather!" said Emily. "So glad to see you again!"
Emily stood up and hugged Heather.
"Long time no talk." said Heather. "So how was life in Los Angeles?"
"It was good for the most part." said Emily. "Had myself a steady boyfriend, decent classes, Mommy starred in a lot of movies."
"Sounds like you had a good life in L.A." said Heather.
"And I even made a close friend in Darcy." Emily added.
"We were like besties." said Darcy.
"And Darcy. I hear you have Marty as your boyfriend." said Emily.
"Totally!" said Darcy. "And he's right here!"
Darcy brought Marty over to Emily.
"Wow! He's so cute!" said Emily.
"Thanks." said Marty. "It's nice to meet you, Emily."
"Nice to meet you too." said Emily.
"Say, is Thomas alright, Emily?" asked Marty.
"Thomas?" said Emily. "Are you okay?"
Tommy soon got up and regained consciousness. Suddenly, he ran out to the nurse's office.
"I meant to tell you, before he dated Frieda, Thomas had feelings for me." said Emily.
"But then we broke up." said Frieda.
"Bummer." said Darcy.

Tommy was in the nurse's office waiting for an examination. There was Floyd, also waiting for a checkup.
"What are you in for?" asked Tommy.
"I've got a loose tooth." said Floyd.
"I think you need to go to the dentist to have that checked out." suggested Tommy.
"School nurse comes first, Tommy." said Floyd. "She should see about it. Say, what are you in for, Tommy?"
"Heartache." answered Tommy.
"Heartache?" quizzed Floyd.
"It's the most beautiful thing who comes into your homeroom, one you haven't seen in a long time, and she just makes your heart beat like Donkey Kong playing the bongos."
"Wow." said Floyd. "And what's the name of this individual you're talking about?"
Tommy calmed down and let out a deep sigh.
"Emily."
"What?! She's back?"
"Yes."
Meanwhile, Emily was attending her first class of the day, which happened to be Maths. She shared it with Tommy.
"Tommy Halverson?" quizzed Ms. Percival. "Tommy Halverson."
"I did see him running into the nurse's office." said Polly. "I saw him as soon as I brought Floyd there."
"Must be to do with my return." thought Emily.
"Yes, Emily Jones." said Ms. Percival.

Some minutes later, Tommy arrived at his maths class.
"Sorry I'm late." said Tommy.
"Tommy Halverson. Ten minutes late." said Ms. Percival. "Go fill in a slip."
"Yes, Ms. Percival." Tommy sighed.
At recess time, Emily spoke to Darcy.
"Hey, Emily." said Darcy. "Tell me, how were things in Los Angeles ever since I moved over here?"
"It went well." said Emily. "Up until Chester cheated on me, turning my life upside-down."
"So Chester cheated on you?" asked Heather Wold.
"He sure did." said Emily.
"Emily, Chester should been lucky to have had a girl like you!" Heather said. "Besides, just look at you."
"Oh you, Heather!" giggled Emily.
"Who did this Chester cheat on you with?" asked Janice.
"He cheated on me with my mommy's stylist." Emily answered.
"What did your mom's stylist have that you don't?" asked Polly. "Is it the fact she's not blonde?"
"Is it the fact she's older than him?" added Heather.
"Is it the fact she's a better dancer than you?" finished Frieda.
"No, no and no." Emily answered. "It's the fact my mommy's stylist was not a she."
"Really?!" exclaimed Heather, Janice, Frieda and Polly. "You mean?"
Emily nodded.

During lunch, Emily had ordered her lunch of fruit salad, a marmite sandwich, and a glass of water. She sat with Tommy.
"Hey, Thomas." Said Emily. "You don't mind me sitting with you during lunch, do you?"
"Not at all." said Tommy.

"Thomas. I've been meaning to ask you." said Emily. "Why did you break up with Frieda?"
"I didn't." said Tommy. "She broke up with me. She thought that Five needed her. It all began when Janice's grandmother had leukaemia…."
"Leukaemia?!" exclaimed Emily. "Good grief!"

"Janice suffered the same thing." said Tommy. "But after her grandma's death, Janice had quite possibly her finest hour."
"What happened?" asked Emily.

"Emerald said some disparaging things about Janice's grandmother…."
"Oh my goodness!"
"However, it wasn't Linus who stood up to her. It was Janice." Tommy explained.

"Good on her!" said Emily. "Now where were you going with this?"
"Frieda had forgotten that Janice had comeback into town, and that Five was dating Janice's little sister, Frieda thought Five still needed her."
"Aw, I'm so sorry." said Emily. "Have you recovered from the break up?"
"I have." said Tommy. "On New Year's Eve, we made up, and now we're good friends again."
"That's a relief." Emily said. "I'm glad you two made up."

"Emily, one more question." Tommy asked.
"Yes?" asked Emily.

"Are you still dating that Chester dude?" Tommy asked.
"You know about Chester?" said Emily.
"I was searching for you in Los Angeles after Frieda broke up with me." said Tommy.
"I thought I heard you during my lunch with Chester during Spring Break." said Emily.
"That was me." answered Tommy. "Are you still going out with Chester?"

"No." sighed Emily. "You wouldn't believe it, but over the last few months, Chester had been bailing out on our dates, and this is where I found out the truth. A couple of months ago, I caught Chester cheating on me with my mommy's stylist, so I ended our relationship."
"Chester should've been lucky to have you!" said Tommy. "Did your mum fire her stylist? She must've looked better in Chester's eyes than you did."
"Well, yes and no." said Emily. "Yes, Mommy fired her stylist. And no, her stylist was not a she."

"Hold it!" exclaimed Tommy. "Are you telling me…..?"
"Yeah." said Emily. "It turns out my ex is gay. He came out when he began dating my mommy's former stylist."

"Good grief!" said Tommy.
"I know." said Emily. "Three years straight, I began middle school, I met Chester, only for him to reveal he was gay all along. I can't believe he lied to me all these years."
"You'll find the right guy someday." said Tommy.
"And I hope you can find the right girl someday, Thomas." said Emily. "You know, she might just be closer than you think she is."
Tommy blushed as Emily winked at him.

Emily's last class for the day was music.
"The perfect lesson for me." Emily said to herself. "The ideal art for dancing to."
Emily arrived at her music class and she eyed Schroeder.
"So Schroeder shares my music class." Emily thought.
"Hey, Emily." said Schroeder. "Have a seat."
Emily took the seat where Schroeder was sitting.
"Hey, Schroeder." said Emily. "How does it feel that I'm back?"
"It feels good." said Schroeder. "I could do with another girl who loves music."
"Say, are you going out with anyone, Schroeder?" asked Emily.
"I believe I am." said Schroeder. "Mary's her name."
"Mary Stewart?" said Emily.
"Yeah." said Mary Stewart. "Schroeder and I started dating during Beethoven's birthday on our first year of middle school. And even today, we're still going strong."
"Isn't that sweet of you?" said Emily. "Pity I don't have a sweetheart anymore."
"Uh oh. What happened?" asked Mary Stewart.
"I'll explain later." Emily said. "For now, let's pay attention to our music teacher."
"Good thinking, Emily." said Mary Stewart.

At home time, Tommy decided to walk Emily home.
"So Emily. Where did you move into?" asked Tommy.
"The same house as we did before we moved away." said Emily.
"Are you saying….?"
"Yes."
Snoopy peeped out of his and Fifi's house and was most surprised to see Emily. He thought she looked familiar.
"It's the girl the Round-Headed kid danced with!" Snoopy thought.
Fifi noticed the look on Snoopy's face.
"Huh?" said Fifi.
Fifi then turned to Emily, who had walked by.
"Whoa!" Fifi exclaimed.
"Hold on, Thomas." said Emily. "I know a place where I can make a little stop."
"Where?" pondered Tommy.
"Follow me."
Emily and Tommy were on their way to a house they knew all too well.

Inside Schroeder's house, there was Schroeder playing his piano when Emily walked in.
"Hi, Schroeder." said Emily.
"Emily?" said Schroeder.
"Just came to listen to some of your lovely Beethoven music." said Emily.
Emily noticed what Schroeder was playing.
"Whoa!" Emily exclaimed. "You mean you're playing a grand piano now?"
"My parents bought me this as a graduation present when I graduated from elementary school." said Schroeder.
"You wouldn't mind would you?" asked Emily.
"Not at all." said Schroeder. "I don't mind a pretty face being here."
"Then it's settled." said Emily.
While Schroeder played some music, Emily spent some of her time dancing to it. Tommy walked in.
"Emily? What is this sort of….. dancing?"
Tommy was mesmerised not only by Schroeder's music, but by Emily's dancing.
"Come on, Thomas." said Emily. "Let's dance together. I'll help you."
Emily brought Tommy in front of Schroeder's piano and she showed him the dance moves she knew. Tommy blushed bright red. He was more than happy to be dancing with Emily.
"Are you getting this, Thomas?" asked Emily.
Tommy didn't answer. Just then, Mary Stewart arrived.
"Tommy and Emily?" said Mary Stewart. "What are you…. dancing?"
Mary Stewart brought Schroeder off his piano and started to dance with him.

Some time later, Tommy and Emily arrived at the old Jones house.
"Daddy! Elliot! I'm home!" called Emily.
"Emily!" cried Dennis, Emily's father.
"You're back, Big Sister!" said Elliot who ran to hug her.
"How was your first day at preschool here, Elliot?" asked Emily.
"It was fun." said Elliot.
"Say, where's your mum?" asked Tommy.
"Mommy's still in Los Angeles." said Emily. "Luckily she made enough money to allow Daddy to move me and Elliot back to Sparkyville."
"Amazing!" Tommy said. He was impressed by Emily's family wealth.
"Say, you wouldn't mind staying for dinner, would you, Thomas?" asked Emily. "Consider it my treat to you."
"I….. I would not mind at all!" said Tommy.
"Great." said Emily. "We eat at seven."

Meanwhile, Floyd was at home nursing his tooth pain.
"Are you okay, Floyd?" asked Sarah, Floyd's mother.
"Not really." moaned Floyd. "My tooth isn't doing me any good."
"Don't worry, my son." said Sarah. "I've booked you an appointment with the dentist. He'll see you tomorrow. Maybe he'll see what's wrong with you."
"Thanks, Mom." said Floyd.
As Floyd rested, he got a phone call.
"Hello." said Floyd.
"Hey, Floyd." said Polly. "It's Polly."
"Hi, Lambcake." said Floyd.
"Are you feeling alright?" asked Polly. "How's your tooth?"
"Not feeling the greatest." moaned Floyd.
"Have you been eating too much candy?" asked Polly.
"Maybe." Floyd answered. "Mom just booked me a dentist appointment. I'll see him on Thursday. I'm staying home until then."
"That was nice of your mom." said Polly. "Anyway. it was nice checking up on you, Floyd."
"Thanks, Lambcake." said Floyd.

Charlie Brown arrived home where Sally was feeding Snoopy.
"Hey, Big Brother." said Sally. "How was school?"
"It was great." said Charlie Brown. "An old friend of mine had returned."
"Who was this old friend, Big Brother?" asked Sally.
"Emily." answered Charlie Brown.
"Emily Jones? You mean the one you danced with at the sweetheart ball?" asked Sally.
"The very same." answered Charlie Brown.
"I knew it!" Sally said. "So how is Emily?"
"She's alright so far." said Charlie Brown. "Except….."
"Except what?" asked Sally.
"Her boyfriend cheated on her." Charlie Brown answered. "With her mom's stylist."
"The pretty girl, is she?" Sally snorted.
"Actually," said Charlie Brown. Her mom's stylist wasn't a she."
"Good grief, are you saying?!"
Charlie Brown nodded at Sally's remark.
"Oh." said Sally.
Heather arrived home and saw Henry, her little brother.
"Hey, Henry!" said Heather.
"Hi, Big Sister." said Henry. "You seem to be in a good mood today."
"Oh I am!" said Heather. "My old friend Emily Jones is back in town!"
"Isn't that nice?" said Henry. "I hope to see her again soon."
"But I'm not the only one who's thrilled to see her return." said Heather. "Tommy Halverson is especially happy."

That evening, Tommy and Emily were having dinner together with her father and brother Elliot.
"So you're saying Peppermint Patty and Roy are an item now?" said Emily.
"She'd been depressed after Pierre moved back to France." Tommy explained. "And Roy wanted to make her feel better by treating her to a date."
"That was nice of Roy." said Emily.
"But before then, Peppermint Patty's father got remarried, helping her recover from her biological mother's death." Tommy continued.
"Good stories, Tommy." said Dennis.
"Tell us more, Thomas." said Elliot.
There's even a Ghost Train opened at Sparkyworld." Tommy said.
"A Ghost Train?" said Emily. "Sounds spooky! And exciting too! We should ride that one day. But when we next go to Sparkyworld."
Emily was very impressed.
"Say, I hear Floyd and Polly are still going strong."
"I even saw Floyd in the nurse's office." Tommy added.
"So you were in the nurse's office." said Emily. "Must've been flustered."
"Sorry about that, Emily." said Tommy. "Floyd has some sort of toothache I heard."
"Polly told me." Emily said. "And I even heard that Heather did Charles' homework for him while he was ill."
"That was nice of Heather." said Tommy.

When dinner was over, Tommy was preparing to leave when Emily stopped him.
"Hold it, Thomas!" said Emily. "Don't think you're leaving without saying goodbye, are you?"
"Oh yeah." said Tommy. "Goodbye, Emily. And thank you for offering a nice dinner for me."
"It was my pleasure, Thomas." said Emily. "See you in school tomorrow."
And Emily hugged Tommy, which caused him to blush bright red.
"Oh…. well….." Tommy stammered.
Soon, Tommy was on his way home, red in the face and very happy.
"Hey, Tommy." said Karina. "You seem to be in a happy mood."
"I sure am, Mum." said Tommy. "An old friend of mine is back in town. Emily Jones."
"Good grief! Is Emily back?!" exclaimed Karina.
"She sure is." said Tommy confidently. "And I hope she stays."
At the Jones house, Emily got out her cell phone and phoned her mother.
"Hello?" said Nina, Emily's mother.
"Hi, Mommy." said Emily.
"Did you make it back to Sparkyville fine?" asked Nina.
"We sure did, Mommy." said Emily. "And all my old friends were delighted to see me again. Especially…."
"Tommy?" said Nina. "That's very nice. Well, thanks for calling, Emily."
"Anytime, Mommy." said Emily. "Well, have fun in your next act."
"Thank you." said Nina. "See you real soon."
After hanging up, Emily lay flat on her back, feeling very satisfied.

The following day, Emily was walking to school. Darcy caught up with her.
"Hey, Emily!" said Darcy.
"Hi, Darcy." said Emily.
"So how was school yesterday?" asked Darcy.
"It was good." said Emily. "It was great to see the whole gang again. It was especially great to see Thomas again. He must've really missed me."
"I'm sure he did." said Darcy.
Darcy and Emily came by the Browns' house where Charlie Brown, Sally and Wally were leaving.
"Hey, Charles. Hey, Sally." said Emily.
"Oh. Hi, Emily." said Charlie Brown.
"Emily?" said Sally. "Emily!"
Sally ran to hug Emily.
"Emily! So good to see you again!" said Sally.
"It's great to see you too, Sally." said Emily. "How have you been?"
"I've been good so far, Emily." said Sally. "Still going strong with my Sweet Angel Harold. Did my big brother tell you we went to Hawaii for vacation?"
"No." said Emily. "What happened?"
"I'll explain later." said Charlie Brown. "Right now, we have to go to school."
"Okay then." said Emily. "We'll see you there."

Emily looked down at the doghouse near Charlie Brown's house.
"What's this doghouse here?" Emily quizzed.
Emily went over to the house where Snoopy came out.
"Snoopy?" said Emily. "You live here now?"
Fifi came out of the doghouse.
"And Fifi too?" said Emily.
Woodstock flew down and explained in his own scratchy sounds what had happened between Snoopy and Fifi.
"You mean Snoopy and Fifi are married?" asked Emily.
Snoopy and Fifi nodded and hugged each other.
"Congratulations, you two." said Emily. "I'm sure Charles and Heather are happy for you two."
Snoopy and Fifi nodded. As they did so, Snoopy's pups came out.
"You mean to tell me you had puppies as well?" asked Emily.
Emily spent some time to count Snoopy's pups.
"Eleven…. twelve…. One dozen and one puppies!" exclaimed Emily.
"Uh huh." said Snoopy.
"Come on, Emily." said Darcy. "We have to go now."
Darcy dragged Emily from Snoopy and Fifi's house and both were on their way to school.
As soon as the two arrived at Sparkyville High….
"Hold on, Emily!" said Darcy. "You can understand birds?"
"I can." said Emily. "I've had this ability for as long as I can remember."
"That's amazing!" said Darcy.

When they arrived at Sparkyville High, they saw Tommy sighing happily.
"Hi, Thomas!" called Emily.
"Hey, Emily….. Emily!" Tommy cried. "It's so good to see you again."
"It's so good to see you again too, Thomas." smiled Emily.
"Emily. Live has been on and off in Sparkyville without you." said Tommy. "A lot has been going on. Emerald making me my slave, torturing me at her party, Frieda and I splitting up, but luckily, Frieda and I made up."
"Don't you worry, Thomas." said Emily. "I'm back in Sparkyville, and this time, I'm back for good."
"You mean it, Emily?" said Tommy.
"Indeed I do, my Sweeteridoo." Emily said as she hugged Tommy.
That word, 'Sweeteridoo', made Tommy feel much better. Not only was Emily back for good, the two had gotten back together.
"I missed you so much, Emily." said Tommy.
"And I missed you too." Emily said as she kissed Tommy.
Tommy blushed at Emily's kiss, while Frieda watched on sadly.
"Aw….. now I have to find a new Sweeteridoo." Frieda sighed.
