Yippee: thoughts

'Yippee': telepathic speech

"Yippee": regular speech

Saiki was wringing his hands nervously. His friends could be heard chatting outside the door.

Good grief. How did they convince me to do this?

The three being Akechi, Toritsuka and Aiura. They had somehow convinced Saiki to tell the others about his powers.

To say he was stressed was an understatement.

Taking a deep breath, he pushed open the door, the chatter instantly silencing. Even Nendou, usually unable to read the seriousness of the room, was devoid of any jokes.

It was honestly creepy seeing them all so serious.

Saiki took a deep breath once again, surveying them all. His heart was in his stomach. He could always go back in time before he agreed to this but he has to tell them sooner or later.

You've all seen the trope. Character hides monstrous secret, their friends find out from other means, they're scared of the character, the character ends up alone, for a little while anyway.

Saiki's never had friends before. Obviously he had Akechi but after he transferred he had no one until he met Nendou, and as much as he likes to convince himself they're nothing but annoyances, he seriously cares about them. It was a struggle coming to terms with that fact. He had spent so many years believing he was a freak of nature and that his powers would only hurt those he cares about but these people like him for him. If they can break down his exteriors even slightly then he's sure he can trust them with this.

I've been stood here for too long. I have to say something.

'I'm...glad you all showed up.'

Their faces were patient as he continued. What? He was already confessing about his powers, he's not going to talk properly too.

'I've been lying to you...for a considerable amount of time now.'

He breathed in. This was it.

He levitated a spoon over to himself, bending it in many ways.

'I have psychic powers.'

Shocked faces and gasps filled the room.

They're not saying anything.

Are they scared?

Do they think I'm a freak?

Will they all leave-?!

Saikis train of thought was interrupted by a gentle yet crushing hug. He looked up and it was none other than Nendou. Despite looking rough he was surprisingly gentle. It didn't take a psychic to figure that out. He soon let go. It was surprisingly comforting, not that he'd ever admit that to him.

Kaido was the first to speak up.

"Psychic? You mean like...real powers?"

I was right?!

'No you're still wrong about all the dark reunion stuff.'

Kaido yelped before regaining composure as if he hadn't just jumped out of his skin.

Teruhashi wasn't handling it better. She may look calm on the outside but her thoughts had one constant.

He can read my thoughts?! How long has he known this?! Does he know my secret?! Is that why he's never said 'oh wow', because he can hear my inner monologue?!

I wish I couldn't.

"How...long have you kept this from us?"

Kuboyasu asked.

That was one of the questions he was dreading answering. But it's a given, considering how street smart the former delinquent is.

'I've been hiding this for several years now. Only three people besides my immediate family knows. And I've got a lot to apologise for.'

Hairo was about to speak up but Saiki raised a hand to silence him.

'I've kept the earth in a time loop for the past couple years, never surpassing the year 2018. When we went to Okinawa I accidentally teleported our hotel into the middle of the ocean. I was the cause of us getting stranded on that island. Nendou I destroyed your wall. I let my brother torture you all. I'm so sorry. I understand if you don't want to associate with someone like me.'

Despite speaking telepathically, Saiki was out of breath. That was a lot. He was half expecting them to leave, in fact he was prepared for them to never want to speak to him again, or call up a government agency so they could dispose of him.

But instead Teruhashi stood up and walked towards him.

"We're not scared of you, if that's what you're wondering."

That...was not what he was expecting.

Hairo threw an arm around Saiki, knocking him off balance slightly.

"I'm so glad you felt safe enough to tell us!"

This...was a foreign feeling. He's not used to it. All his life Kusuke had convinced him the world would bow to his feet if he ever gave anyone the impression that he was an esper. But acceptance? That was an odd reaction. It wasn't something Saiki was used to.

"We should go get ramen to celebrate!"

For once, Saiki agreed.

"Yeah, let's go."

Maybe...things would be okay just this once.
