There was four of them in this situation. Four going in different directions. And the one caught in the middle of all this, was Merlin. Caught between the love for his older brother Daniel, who we will call Danny and the loyalty to Arthur, his former partner.
Merlin always looked up to his older brother. Followed him around as a child. Wanting to be just like him. But as they grew, Daniel changed; and not for the better. Merlin suspected something was wrong. He knew his brother better than anyone; better than their parents. But when Daniel gets caught up in the drug scene, Merlin is left devastated and angry. The animosity grows between them, especially when Daniel becomes aggressive towards him. Merlin is determined to put his brother straight, but he also had their younger sister to protect. Annabelle, who we will call Annie, also suspected all was not right. Merlin would spin a web of lies and deceit, in order to protect her.
Then there was Arthur Pendragon. A chance encounter on a night out brought the pair together. It was love at first sight for Merlin himself. Arthur though, was more reserved. It was a relationship that should never really happened. And it was a relationship that was fought with turmoil and disrespect. Arthur refused point blank to reveal what Merlin was to him. Calling him a friend and acquaintance in front of his peers and work colleagues. The more Merlin pushed, the more Arthur rebelled. After six months, Merlin called it a day, ending the relationship between them.
When Daniel is caught up in a murder, Merlin believes in his innocence. His brother may do drugs, but he was no killer; or was he? Determined to discover the truth, Merlin starts his own investigation. The one thing he never gave a thought too, was that the investigative police officer would be his ex-partner. Arthur Pendragon who was now the detective in charge of the murder case. And the pair were still at loggerheads with each other, especially when Arthur feels Merlin is interfering with something he doesn’t know or understand. But with his brother’s reputation at stake, Merlin ignores Arthur’s warnings.
Arthur begins to wonder if Merlin knows more about this murder than he is telling. And when he discovers that Merlin has possibly hidden evidence that could leave to his brother’s conviction, he would have no option but to have the pair arrested. Could Merlin convince Arthur to look further into the investigation. And more importantly, after Merlin had confided in someone he thought he could trust, were they the one to betray both him and his brother.
Merlin must put his faith in Arthur to convict the right person. But as time runs out for the pair, Merlin is left devastated. Love, Loyalty, Lies and Deceit will leave you wondering just who the killer really is.
