Notes:

It's that time again! So this will be my first time participating in the febuwhump challenge. My plan is to have continuity through all 28 days, following the same story. I've never written anything this long before, so we'll see how this goes!

Peace~

Chapter 1: Prologue: I like you better broken

Chapter Text

When Agahnim took over the castle, it was a quiet affair. Nobody knew that the princess had disappeared. Nobody knew that the king was dead. But on that fateful night, a young man with a sword and a too-large shield slipped into the castle. Reports of a cloaked figure fleeing with the princess in tow flooded the castle, supplemented by seriously wounded soldiers who suffered attack from this intruder.

It was too easy.

Agahnim need only lay the blame on the lad and suddenly the entire guard was on his tail. A kidnapped princess, a dead king, what wonderful things to lay on a convenient scapegoat. Of course, some magical suggestion couldn’t hurt a little bit. Soon, blinded by patriotic rage and veil of Agahnim’s dark magic, the soldiers of Hyrule began their ruthless hunt for the boy.

It wasn’t until the the damage was undone that the hunt finally ended. With the young man’s selfless wish on the triforce (or was it selfish to want his uncle back?), the king was restored to life and throne, and the princess cleared her hero’s name. All was well. But the insidious spell cast by the traitorous advisor had done its damage and weakened the minds of the king’s men.

When Yuga attacked, it was all too easy.

A curse this time, not mere trickery, was inflicted upon the hapless soldiers. Once again, rage burned through those meant to protect. But it was not the righteous rage it once was; it was the rage that destroyed everything around it, relentless in its pursuit of vengeance. This curse didn’t care if they had been wounded; rage demanded that they stand back up and hunt. And hunt they did, attacking at any chance the hero who suffered for his kingdom. The benighted knights and the Last Knight struck out at each other in desperation, both wretched in their torments.

After all, thought Yuga, watching in satisfaction, he likes it better when they’re broken.
