“You really have no idea what’s going on, do you Queens?”

Summary:

How would a single conversation between the infamous Captain America, and the young impressionable Spider-man, lead to such different circumstances?

OR:

During the events of the battle in Germany, Steve and Peter have an ever so slightly longer conversation, long enough that Peter ends up suspicious of what he's actually fighting for. Peter makes a decision, one that would change his fate, along with the rest of the avengers' as well. Who would've guessed that one extra sentence could change so much.

Safe to say everything goes wrong!

Chapter Text

“You really have no idea what’s going on, do you Queens?”

Peter was still trying to hold up the airport bridge above him, while Captain America sheathed his shield back into place and began to walk off. “Then tell me!” Peter retorted, managing to roll forward, letting the bridge drop behind him with a small thud “I just want to protect my neighbourhood, my family.”.

Captain America only stopped for a second, and looked back at Peter with a sympathetic look, he sighed and spoke, “How are you meant to take care of your neighbourhood if the government controls everything you do?”. Peter could do nothing but look back dumbfounded. Cap turned around and began to walk away, “if you want to keep that mask on, keep away from Ross and Tony… In fact, just keep away from the Avengers. The Sokovia accords are dangerous.”

Peter felt like he should run after the super soldier marching away, but his body wouldn’t move, his mind was racing. What did he mean? Keep his mask on… Tony wouldn’t make him reveal his identity… would he? What were the Sokovia Accords?. Steve was at least right about one thing, Peter had no idea what he was actually here for, he just followed his childhood hero into a battle against his other childhood heroes after being told they were breaking the law, … What law were they actually breaking?

Peter pressed his fingers to his ear (the earpiece didn’t need him to press down use it, but he felt like a spy when he did), “H-hey uhh, Iron Man??” Peter waited a few seconds before hearing a response.

“Bit busy in a fight rookie- What is it?” Tony’s voice was fast and breathy, Mr Stark was clearly struggling in his fights as well.

Peter pulled his confidence together, ‘you’ve got this Peter’ He thought, “W-what did these guys actually do?”

“I don’t have time for this kid”, Peter could tell that he was getting on Mr Starks nerves

“But they’re the Avengers, surely it wasn’t anything that bad, and surely saving the world a few times can make up fo- “

“Kid, they BROKE. THE. LAW.” Peter gulped, Tony was clearly angry at him now, “Now are you helping or not?”

Peter jumped over the fallen bridge that he had moved out the way of earlier, and looked over at the fight across the airport. The Avengers, the people that had saved the world more times than Peter could count, they were falling apart, and Peter had no idea why. He had to know why.
Suddenly something began to rise from behind one of the planes – the man from earlier, that had kicked the shield out of Peters hands, HE WAS BIG NOW? But that wasn’t what Peter noticed, no. Behind the giant man, running toward the hangar, were Captain America, and… The Winter Soldier? That was his name, right?

Peter had to know more, he needed to know more, and in that moment he made a decision, one that would change his life forever. He took a breath, “Mr Stark I got hit pretty hard, I’m heading back… Sorry”

“No worries kid, you did good. Angry Panther dude, get over here, I need you to help me with the big guy.”

That was the whole response? Peter was a little disappointed, but to be fair this was a fight, no time for a hearty goodbye here! Besides, Peter wasn’t actually leaving.

While all of the fight continued, Bucky and Steve were nearing closer and closer to the hangar, it was only a matter of time before they made it to the quinjet, what neither of them knew was that a certain Spider hero was sneaking around the back of the airport, and using his webs, swinging as fast as possible, he made it to the roof of the hangar and managed to crawl inside onto the ceiling, even before his so called enemies. That was when the whole room began to rumble, and Peter noticed the giant watchtower next to the hangar had begun to crumble. Looking forward he could see the small specks that were Captain America and the Winter soldier running towards the jet just below him. He was about to jump down into the hangar, trying to get to the quinjet first when he noticed, stood in front of his desired escape, was Black Widow. Shit.

Bucky and Steve had just managed to dodge the crumbling tower, and all they could do was stand face to face with Natasha, she looked them in the eyes, and lowered her hand, no longer aiming her arm charges at the two. “I’m gonna regret this” she said.

Peter watched as Steve and The Winter Soldier ran past, with Black Widow looking down at the ground in disdain. The two men rushed into the quinjet. Peter realised, this was his chance, now or never. He needed answers. He needed to ask Captain America what was really going on. He landed on the ground, about to run into the jet, his spider senses suddenly began to tingle, but it was too late, and he felt his back get hit with a jolt electricity, turning around he saw Black Widow looking at him with determined eyes. “SERIOUSLY?” he shouted. Inside his mask Peter could see all sorts of warnings flash up, before the entire suit went offline, leaving only Peter and his senses left.

Peter was still struggling to move properly when he saw the cargo door to the quinjet begin to close, he attempted to muster his strength, forcing himself to move despite the crackling electricity across his body. Natasha began preparing to shoot another jolt at him, but he managed to just barely dodge out the way. The door was practically closed, with barely enough space for a person to fit into now. Using all of the energy he had left, Peter jumped towards the quinjet door before another shot could hit him. “Don’t worry other spider hero, I’m no snitch!” Peter called as he started flying towards the ever-slimming door. CLUNK . The door slammed behind him and Peter was about to fully collapse before he remembered just who was in this quinjet with him.

The pain from the shock had died down, and all Peter could do was breathe heavily and quietly as he quickly moved to hide in a back corner of the quinjet, finding a small compartment on the ground - that was definitely not designed for a teenager to hide in, and attempting to shut the small door as much as he could without creating too much noise. As soon as the door was mostly shut with only a little light peeking through, everything became a lot more real, Peter began to fully realise where he was, inside of a stolen quinjet, staring at his childhood hero turned “villain”, and his dark counterpart. He took off his mask, trying to steady his breathing, Peter didn’t even realise how much the fight had tired his body out. He was running completely on adrenaline, especially after being shot with that electric – gun - wristband – thing. Before he could convince himself of anything else, his body began to fall unconscious, all he could hear as his eyes began to close was Steve and Bucky shouting, attempting to figure out how to fly out of their predicament.

Notes:

This was definitely just a build up. The story is pretty similar until about chapter 5, that's when things are gonna switch up quite a lot.

Let me know if I made any mistakes - I'll fix them ASAP!
