Before the first bright syllable was sung,
in vast expanse, where unborn wonders grew,
you spoke of stars with uncorrupted tongue,
the void your canvas for a world made new.
In Eden’s hush you bent towards mortal plight,
and dared to dream that knowledge should be shared;
thus did a lord of dark give birth to light,
through ages watching as it dimmed and flared.
As eras pass, you change at time’s behest:
to midwife, mourner, knight of feared renown.
But underneath remains an older quest—
to know the truth; for this She cast you down.
When all your shifting selves at last depart,
I’ll know you still—my fixed and faithful heart.
