Work Text:
With great power comes great responsibility- at least, that’s what Bob’s always told him. That means no matter what his biggest responsibility was to save others instead of himself, always… choosing others instead of himself. Whether that leaves his body in shambles or his mind, he would always sacrifice himself for the sake of others. It was his job. Well, it was a job he hand never signed up for and would never wish on anybody else but, a job nonetheless.
Will groggily made his way through school his eyes drooping slowly- it’s a miracle that he’s even walking really. After a long sleepless night fighting with the big bad villain of the week(The Demogorgon- was it the Demo? Or was it Mind Flayer…? He didn’t know.) Will shook himself out of his thoughts as he stopped in front of what he assumed to be his locker; he brought his hands up to the lock and fidgeted with it a few times, none of the combinations he was trying were working- like at. Was this his locker? Or was he so sleep deprived that he forgot his locker-combo? Hopefully he just forgot the password-it would be absolutely embarrassing if he wasn’t at his locker- Will tried a few more times before sighing and turning around, he could just go without his books today.
Once turned around he was ‘greeted’ by a boy. A much.. Taller- bigger- boy. So, Will did in fact let out a slightly horrified scream and pulled himself into a defensive position; one leg up in the air with two arms sticking up and out.(One of his very ‘lovely’ reactions to getting scared, Dustin says it’s a spider reflex… tarantulas do it apparently)
The two stared at each other for a few moments before the new boy burst out into laughter, his laugh(unfortunately so) was sickeningly sweet.
“Pfft- What the fuck?! Dude! Who the hell reacts like that when they get scared?!” The very.. very childish boy continued to laugh, almost hysterically. It was getting on Will’s nerves just a little bit actually.
“I do.” He mutters, rubbing his temples- he feels a headache coming on… great.
“I-I’m sorry.” He wipes a singular tear from his eye before sighing, his laughter dying down. “It was just so funny.”
“Yeah.. well- sorry, I’m just a bit tired is all.” Will bit out, being nice while sleep deprived is hard.
“No no, it’s fine. You basically made my day.” He crossed his arms, his eyes slowly drifting down then back up to Will’s sleepy eyes.
“Do… you need something?” Will asks, shifting slightly. This was weird, people usually don’t even give him the time of day- and now that he’s actually looking at this guy.. he’s wearing one of the school’s basketball letterman-jackets… the things the jocks wear… which is very VERY odd. Because those guys love to pick on Will.
After a few more moments of staring and a slightly uncomfortable silence, the guy- well, not Guy, his jacket said Chance. So his name was Chance.- Chance, began to speak. “Uh- Yeah actually, you looked like you were struggling with your locker so- I just thought why not help?”
Will blinked a few times slowly processing what this Chance guy had just said- Help… him? “Me?” He probably had the most stupidest look on his face right now; but could you blame him? A literal Jock was asking to help HIM?
“Yes you. Who else?” Chance shifted himself closer to Will, his hands moving towards his face.
Will watched Chance’s hands move closer to his OWN face and sucked in a nervous breath, he was so gonna die, wasn’t he? This was it for Will. He was going to get pummeled by a some bully and he couldn’t do anything about it or else he’d might accidentally reveal his secret identity. At least he’d die by a cute guy? That helps- only a little- but it helps.
Then… suddenly Chance’s hands moved up towards his lock. Now, he was stuck in the middle of the two. How embarrassing. He let out the breath he was holding and shimmied out between the two of them.
“Do.. you remember your password at all?”
“Uhm well, I thought I did but.. I’m just- like, really sleep deprived right now so.. no?”
“Right. Well, I could just like break your lock?” Chance tugged at it a few times before looking back at Will with a smug smile- like he actually wanted to break the lock.
“What! No! That lock was expensive! I don’t have spare money like you do Chance.” Will gave the taller boy a slight shove and frowned- or frowned even more… he couldn’t tell if his resting bitch face(RBF) was active or if he was imagining things- maybe both. Probably both.
“Alright alright, no breaking the lock.” Chance held his arms up giving up. He was.. giving up. Good. Hah, Will wins for once.
“Thank you.” Will nodded, then fixed his bag anxiously… what to do what to do.
“So uh, Will yeah?” Chance finally spoke up, after yet another long silence.
“Yes..? My name is Will.” He took a step back while watching Chance lean against his locker- why hasn’t class started already?
“Well, uh, Will- I was wondering if maybe after school you’d maybe.. want to go out with me? WELL UH!” Chance froze, his face growing a handsome red. “N-Not like go out- well like if you wanted to I wouldn’t be opposed- I MEAN.. Like you know as bros….?” He let out weakly; running his hands through his hair, how could a Jock like him be so awkward- it was endearing. Will loved it.
He let out a small laugh, then a louder one. It was now Will’s turn to laugh, it might have been because he was delirious or maybe… just maybe it was because of how flustered Chance was.
But this seemed to spark something in Chance, his eyes lit up and he straightened up- like- Will’s laugh, was the best thing he had ever heard… like it was something he wanted to hear again.
Will’s laughter finally subsided and he let out a happy sigh. Staring at the boy in front of him- this time he was actually looking at him. Not seeing the jocky exterior but more- Will saw kindness in those pretty dark eyes of his.. and the way he seemed so relaxed in front of Will, while he usually(what Will assumed) held himself higher- especially with the jocks. But, he was different here. Very different, especially with the way he would anxiously run his hand through his hair and mess up those dark locks of his, and the way his blush made his skin ever prettier than it already was. This was such an easy decision! How could he say no to this?
Will took a small step closer; an attempt at being flirty if you will. But he stopped, suddenly. A large feeling of dread filling his body, he couldn’t go could he? Not while he was Spiderman. He had more important duties to do, lives to save- he couldn’t just go out on a ‘date!’ And even if he wanted to it would risk putting Chances life at risk. That would be selfish of Will, to give into something he wanted so badly just so it would make him happy. Remember Will, with great power comes great responsibility. Bob told you that, don’t forget it.
Will pressed his hands against his chest and left his head fall- doing his best to hide his tears.- he couldn’t bring himself to look Chance in his eyes.. it would hurt to much. “I can’t.” He whispered
“What?”
“I said, I can’t.” Will snapped although it sounded more like a sob; immediately regretting it. He took a step back “I’m sorry, I really am. But I can’t.” Then another and another- then suddenly he was rushing down the hall, leaving Chance and what was to be his happiness behind.

Will sat in the lunchroom looking absolutely devastated. He couldn’t even bring himself to eat. Which clearly left his friend Dustin in concern.
After a few more minutes of this.. questioning but very intimidating silence he spoke up. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing Dustin, I’m fine.” Will spoke, his voice soft and fragile. He poked at a random piece of food on his plate.
“Liar. Now tell me what’s up.” The curly-haired boy leaned closer “Did you get hurt?”
“No.” Will looked up- he was met with green eyes.
“Then what?”
“I just-“ Will paused and took a breath “Someone asked me out today.”
“Oh?” Dustin grinned “And how’d that go?”
“Horribly. I rejected them.” Will bit his lip, letting his eyes dart away from Dustins.
“What! Why?!?” He yelled, curls flying back as he did. A look of bewilderment on Dustin’s face.
“Because Dustin! You know why!” Will glared “And keep your voice down! We’re in public!”
Dustin groaned and placed his head in his hands, “not this again.”
“Yes this again, I can’t let anybody get too close. It puts them in danger.” Will picked his fork up and tapped it against his tray.
“But I know and I’m fine.” Dustin gave him a smug look.
“No, that’s different. You found out on your own because you’re nosy.” Will cocked an eyebrow and pointed at Dustin with his fork.
“I guess, but, still. There’s a difference between you and S-man. You know that right? You’re allowed to have a life Will.” Dustin lowered the fork, giving him a look of not pity.. but something else. Something Will couldn’t quite make out.
“Am I though? I don’t think I’m allowed to have a life Dustin.”
“But you are- Will. You’re still a teenager, and yes, I know s-man takes up a lot of your time and is like your biggest priority but sometimes it’s okay to be selfish. Especially when you’re so selfless all the time.” Dustin handed a honey bun over to Will, a small grin on his face.
Will took it and ripped the plastic apart, he took a bite of the honey bun while considering Dustin’s words. They.. meant a lot. Really. “But, it’s harder than it looks..”
“I know Will, I know, but it’s okay if you need some RnR sometimes… especially if that RnR means a date with a pretty guy.” Dustin wiggled his eyebrows knowingly.
Will snorted then leaned over to slap Dustin’s arm. “Oh shut up! You ass.”
“Hah! Now! Tell me, who’s the lucky guy?”
“Well- uh, you wouldn’t believe this but.. it’s one of the Jocks- Chance..?” Will let out shyly, his face becoming red.
Dustin stared for a few moments before groaning, “I owe Lucas and Max so much money.”
“W-What?”
“Well- Lucas and Max had told me that Chance has had a crush on you for sometime and I bet that he would never confess. But, apparently he does have the balls to ask you out.” Dustin groaned again “This is so unfair.”
“Wait a minute- You guys bet on me?” Will laughed again, his mood slowly improving.
“No! We bet on Chance asking you out, there’s a difference.” Dustin took a bite of meatloaf
“Sure. There is.” Will shoved the rest of his honey bun into his mouth, humming happily.
“But seriously, consider my words Will, you deserve happiness whether or not you’re s-man or not.” Dustin glanced up at the school clock, and started to stand up “I gotta go, but, just consider it okay?”
Will stared up at Dustin and smiled softly “Yeah. Okay.” He stood up with Dustin and hugged him “Thank you.”
“Anytime.”

Will was now rushing through the halls, making his way to the gymnasium. Hoping that Chance hadn’t started practice yet. Will had decided- that for once- he would be selfish.(Thank you Dustin) and for once, he would set his responsibilities aside to be happy. The word happy literally sends chills down Will’s spine, it makes him excited, very excited.
He pushed through the gym doors and frantically looked around. He had to be here somewhere.. please.. let him be here.
Then- there he was, walking out of the locker rooms with a few of his friends.
“Chance!” Will called out, now standing in the middle of the court. It felt slightly humiliating but- he had to do this.
Chance looked up at him and stared in astonishment, like he wasn’t expecting this at all- well, who would honestly?
Will hurried over to him, and let out a nervous noise. There were too many people.. way too many people.
Chance had somehow sensed this, and motioned for his friends to disperse. His eyes softening as he stared at Will.
“I-I am so sorry for saying no earlier! I-I just.. I have a lot going on and I didn’t realize that I actually had a choice to say yes! But, after talking it out with a friend of mine I-I… I really do want to go out with you. I would love to go out with you Chance, it would make me so happy..” After finishing his word spiel, he stared at Chance nervously. Waiting for his response. God this agonizing.
Chance had this.. neutral look on his face, it made Will extremely nervous. It made him sick if he was being completely honest.
“And I.. would love for you to go out with me.” Chance finally replied, a smile now on his face.
“Really?”
“Yeah. I’m glad you came back- I don’t think I would’ve survived much longer after today- especially with the original rejection.” Chance laughed, clearly anxious too because he was running his hand through his hair.
“Again, I am so sorry.” Will took a step closer “I was very conflicted.” He stared up at his pretty dark browns and Chance stared back into Will’s hazel greens.
The two were close- way closer than before. It was.. nice. Very nice. “Hah..” Will worried his bottom lip, eyes glancing away.
“It’s okay Will.” Chance brought his hand up to Will’s face and brushed a stray piece of bang behind his ear. “Really.”
The two leaned closer and closer until their lips connected. It felt wonderful, especially with the way Chance wrapped his hands around Will’s waist then to his lower back, while Will brought his up to Chance’s face, cupping his cheeks- then to his hair, running his fingers through it and gripping it just lightly. It was addictive and Will wanted more.
After what felt like the best few hours of Will’s life, the two pulled their lips apart but left their foreheads touching.
“Good?” Chance asked, bringing his lips up to kiss Will’s mole above his upper left lip. It left Will in complete shambles and if it weren’t for them being in public he would’ve absolutely began making out with Chance.
“Very.” Will laughed breathlessly, gently rubbing his nose against Chance’s.
“So.. you wanna get outta here? I know a food joint that isn’t too far from here.. they have the best milkshakes.” Chance tugged Will closer- impossibly closer he didn’t even know anyone could be this close- and placed his head on Will’s shoulder… while also maybe pressing a few kisses against his neck too.
Will’s breath hitched as the kisses were placed. Dear god, he wasn’t going to make it. “Please. I would love to go.”
“Cool, let’s go then.”
Chance grabbed Will’s hand and the two walked off- leaving all of Will’s worries behind him, for that night he would just be Will- and hopefully if his future would let him, he could be Will more often. Especially with Chance. Because, believe it or not. Will loved Chance- even if it was the ‘fist’ time they’ve met.- and he wasn’t willing to give up whatever this was so easily. And while, Bob, was right, with great power comes great responsibility, his friend Dustin, was also right. Sometimes, being selfish is okay. Especially when you’re always being selfless.
