Has it always been like that?

Summary:

Rocky always thought that being able to detect light is a convenient ability to have - especially with this whole astrophage mess. But having to rely heavily on light must be a very inefficient choice for evolution to make.

Chapter Text

For the last 30 days of saving their planets together, Rocky-with his brilliant brain of his-had been running a side project: observing his friend. Aside from the fact that a sense of being able to see light was a concept that his kind could never quite understand but still it was fascinating to witness how helpful it can be with solving this whole astrophage mess.

It had a clear limitation though. Not being able to detect all angles at a time should be a very inconvenient to survive. no wonder Grace is able to hear sound too; sound was the most useful sense to have.

So the simple conclusion rocky made was that it was much better to be able to see sound from all angle then to detect light from such a limited-very limited- field of view.

Rocky watched as grace, for the last four hours, clip his shoulder against the bulkhead for the fourth time.

‘Grace stupid’ rocky thought.

He thought humans only become dumb when they lack of sleep but he was starting to realise that it affects only their intelligence. When it comes to navigating, humans are always dumb.

Awwww!

Grace has bumped his head again

Rocky couldn’t help but feel pity for him.

”Grace. Are you okay?Question?”

”yeah yeah. I’m fine. These rooms are just…so stuffed you know. It’s really hard to move around without hitting something.”

”So you bump a lot because ship is small?Question? When you live on Earth you not act stupid? Question?”

”…I think so. I don’t remember being this clumsy back home…” He lets out a short sigh.” Though I don’t remember much.”

”You eyes not efficient. Human can’t detect other side, can’t see much at same time.”

“Hey, without this we would be doomed right now. You know it’s a lot more precise than sound.”

Speaking of that, he was starting to doubt it. Grace would often trip stuff over. Once he even spilled his coffee pack and it almost became a huge problem. Clearly the eyes of his are not helping with calculating depths. Maybe that was the reason why the ship was so messy when he first visited Hailmary, grace trips over everything everywhere he goes, cups and pencils, even himself.

It was weird though. Grace said that he lived for over 30 Earth years and yet he did not seem used to this whole tripping and bumping situation at all. Maybe hitting his head could  happen due to the small space but at least he should be able to grab things appropriately. But it can never be known because Eridians have no eyes let alone can even see any lights.

Something falls to the floor again, making the sound of metal hitting the floor. Grace makes a small hissing sound of annoyance.

Three times in 2 hours. Now that is not good at all.

Notes:

Just explaining that Grace didn’t notice about his eye because he was like that since when he first woke up in the ship and he was so confused at other stuffs to notice smaller problem (I guess it is when you’re suddenly in another universe). Or maybe his nerve was over fried into a crisp that his brain hasn’t even thought of the whole existence of the other eye.

I just wanted the whole getting drugged and I’m a coward stuff to be talked about MORE so sorry Grace live with it!

+ If you liked it I would appreciate some comments cuz that makes my day
