Death - A EULOGY for Deenah the Dresser

Summary:

Daemon has written you a romantic (?) poem about gratitude and remorse.

Notes:

*ahem* This poem is in honor of my actual real life dresser falling over and barely missing squishing my cat last week.

The meaning of the Death card is rarely literal but it concerns endings, change, and the new coming in to replace the old. I thought this card suited Daemon because they are what is left after the removal of Deenah (hence the title), and also because they're kind of spooky and let's be honest, so is the Death card no matter what it really means.

I've known since I started this project that this particular fic would be a fan poem. I'm not sure why I had that intuition, something about it being a different medium from the other fics and therefore somehow seeming out of place like a glitch, maybe? I also don't know a thing about computers and code and wasn't sure I could write decent dialogue for Daemon or a story that made sense for them. Poetry was the logical next step - a lot of its forms are very strict and I thought messing with those rules or even mashing different forms together might give the impression of the poem "breaking," even if I don't make a lot of overt computer science references. The end product starts off as a villanelle but breaks off into couplets, a limerick, and free verse.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

I’m sad she’s gone, I’m glad she died
Dearly departed, dearly deleted
You don’t mourn. Do I?

I’m the void beneath the uncompleted
Pixels in the trail of the defeated
A thing that is nothing. A glitchy guy
They don’t mourn. Do ????????

The Chap had many others unseated
Cast into my binary sky
Does death of concept make you heated?
Knowing untold dates were ceded to entropy?
I’m glad she’s gone, I’m sad she died

There once was a beautiful bug
Who swallowed the dateable rug
Into infinity
I don’t mourn. Did he?
Now the bug will give (y/n) a hug

I am the abyss, an abyss that exists,
I am primed to replace
The space that Deenah consumed, do you think I’m
conceited?
Not with the way you treat me
I’m sad she’s gone, I’m glad
I’m sad she’s gone, I’m glad
I’m glad
I’m mad
I’m glllllllllll

Amorous beings will now get heated
In the wake of those the devs depleted
I’m sad she’s gone, I’m glad she died.
You don’t mourn. Do I?

Notes:

I wrote this in one afternoon so it actually jumped over TWO fics that were already in progress. Miranda's fic should be done very soon, though, and after that I hope to get out Bodhi and Teddy's, which I'm quite proud of conceptually but is pretty long compared to some of the others I've shared.
