Chapter Text
Teru had been dashing madly around Light’s penthouse, both excited and a little annoyed that he’d had a dinner sprung upon him at the last minute. Of course, he didn’t really mind, but Light cooed over him when he pouted so he indulged in a moderate amount of pouting.
Fresh flowers were arranged in antique vases, all the platinum dinnerware was polished (silver was an absolute no-no), last-minute food and wine deliveries had to be fielded. Light had helped too, but was mainly busy with his own plans. There could be absolutely nothing around the house that was even slightly suspicious when L’s caretaker arrived. He pulled his most impressive pieces of ‘traditional’ artwork from storage and hung them in place of his favored, but more morose, paintings. Books on the occult were spirited away and boring tomes on philosophy or history were put in their place. Opaque wine glasses would be used to hide Light’s ‘special wine’ much better and doors to any rooms that the old man strictly should not see were double-locked and hidden by benign illusions for the night.
And then there was the choice of his clothes. “Teru, come here and help me choose between these ties.” Light turned around and held up two silk ties, both deep but marginally distinct shades of red.
Teru arrived supernaturally fast, tilting his head as he considered them. “That one’s just going to make us more hungry.” He pointed to the one that was exactly the color of blood.
“Hmm, good point.” Light tossed that one aside and slipped the burgundy tie around his neck. “Is everything ready? It all must be perfect.” He sighed at Teru’s amused face in the mirror, struggling with his tie. “Ugh, you’d think after a few centuries of wearing these I’d do it properly.” In truth, he knew how to tie it just fine but Teru loved to be helpful, so he often made a show of being inept at it.
“Here, let me.” Teru hurried forward and expertly tied the knot, taking his time to make sure it was as perfect as Light needed it to be tonight. “Don’t worry,” he said softly. “Have you ever failed to impress anyone, ever?”
Light smiled, relaxing a little. Teru always knew just what to say. “Thanks for all your help tonight. It doesn’t go unnoticed.”
Teru tried not to beam but failed miserably. “They’ll be here soon. Everything’s ready. I’ll, um, be in the shadows if you need anything.”
Light nodded and strode to the front door, Teru dissolving into literal mist.
L was a nervous wreck. So much rested on this night going well, which led to him fussing over what he wore. Even though he ended up in just a white button-up shirt and slacks, he spent far longer than necessary picking them out. He did his best to hide his nerves from Wammy, but he knew it was painfully obvious. The man could read him like a book when he wanted to, and he was being anything but subtle right now. He had a feeling his anxious appearance was the only reason Watari didn't put up a fight when he asked if he could spend the night there alone.
By the time the pair arrived at Light’s home, L had managed to mostly calm himself down. At least, just enough to not sweat through his nice clothes. He took a deep breath before stepping out of the limo, glancing at Wammy.
“Are you ready?” He murmured, stuffing his hands into his pockets as he looked the other man over.
Watari nodded slowly, his mustache twitching in slight amusement. It was unusual to see L so tense about something, even a social interaction. As concerned as he was for the nature of L and Yagami’s relationship, it was entertaining to see the young man like this. “Yes. Are you?”
L nodded and decided to take some initiative and approach the door first, knocking despite having a feeling Light would already be waiting there for him. Is Teru going to be here? He’ll have to meet him anyway if my plan goes well...
Light didn’t strictly need to breathe but he took a deep breath anyway before opening the door, a charming smile on his face as he bowed deeply to his guests. “Ryuzaki...sir. Please come in, you are most welcome in my home.” He suddenly realized that he still didn’t know the older man’s name and that might make things awkward tonight. Damn, I really should have asked L. He was tempted to read the man’s mind and snatch his name that way, but humans occasionally noticed the intrusion. Not for what it was, but by a negative shift in mood and paranoia. He didn’t want either tonight.
Watari stepped inside after L, immediately looking around the room. Immaculate and...expensive. Even for a dental surgeon’s wages. Looking over at Light, he bowed his head before extending his hand. “Harrison. It's a pleasure to finally meet you in a proper setting,” he mused, paying close attention to the man’s face. If he can comfortably afford to live like this, he can't be using L for money...but that still doesn't mean his intentions are pure.
Light took ‘Harrison’s’ hand and gracefully shook it, too relieved to have any name to latch onto to be annoyed with the glaring lie. “Indeed. Ryuzaki’s told me so much about you.” He smiled softly at L and flashed a bit of his very white teeth. “All good things, of course.”
L swallowed hard, glancing back and forth between the pair. “...what will we be having for dinner this evening?” He asked, focusing his gaze on Light. Please don't press him for more information than necessary...
Light immediately thought, you , but kept that to himself for now. “A few desserts, of course, but my chef also prepared a delicious rack of lamb. I hope you’re hungry. It’s not often he gets to cook for more than one and might have overdone it.” It was a gross understatement– the dining room was a veritable buffet of delicious, expensive treats and dishes. Caviar, paté, tropical fruits, exquisite hor d'oeuvres...it was definitely an impressive spread. Hopefully. “If you’ll follow me to the dining room...” He closed the front door and led them through the high arch of the foyer and into the living room, past his high built-in bookshelves and newly-hung oil paintings.
Teru was waiting for them in the dining room, standing still as a statue beside the fireplace and ready to serve them. He exchanged a quick look with Light and a quicker thought, ‘I don’t want to stay in the shadows. I’ll serve the wine and food, ok?’
Light frowned slightly but there wasn’t anything he could do about it now. “Ah, this is Teru, my...butler and chef.” When Teru bowed happily, he motioned to the ‘wine.’ To his guests, “Would you care for anything to drink?” He took a seat at the side of the long table and gestured to the others to do the same.
Wammy’s brows rose in surprise as he followed and listened carefully to Light. A butler and chef..? Looking over at the dining room table, humming appreciatively. Yes, he certainly isn't hurting for funds...and he must know L well enough to mention dessert first. “Thank you, but tea or coffee will suffice,” he muttered, offering a polite smile. I can't afford to have my senses dulled, even if the selection is nice.
L watched Teru for a moment before shaking his head slowly. “I'll have coffee as well, if you don't mind.” Wine can be had later. He lingered there for a moment before walking to the table and taking his seat, picking up his napkin and spreading it across his lap as Watari sat down beside him.
Teru strode forward to fill Light’s wine glass first– Light was always his priority even when guests were here. He was quick and graceful though, all hints of nervousness banished as he brought gold-rimmed coffee cups and set them in front of the guests. Piping hot coffee filled each cup and he laid out sugar and milk dishes in the shapes of tiny swans.
Shifting, L cleared his throat. “I was hoping you could tell him more about yourself, Light.” He immediately began adding sugar and cream to his coffee, creating a mountain of cubes in the cup.
“Of course.” Light drank deeply from his cup, feeling confidence and energy flow though his undead body. ‘Thank you, Teru.’ “I was born here in Japan but have had the chance to travel quite widely. I told Ryuzaki that I come from a long line of dentists and physicians, seems it's in the genes.” He grinned slightly at the private joke. “I’ve been in practice for, oh...about 9 years but started learning from my father long before that. Inherited the practice from him when he retired.” He drank again and sat back as Teru placed a few artistic morsels on their plates as appetizers. “I’m happy to answer any questions you have. I’m an open book.”
Watari nodded slowly, his eyes locked on Light’s face, paying close attention to every little shift in his expressions. “Ryuzaki mentioned you have a notable amount of knowledge outside of your field. What would you say your other skills are? And your pastimes?” He lifted his coffee cup to his lip, taking a long sip without even dropping eye contact. The man’s steely gaze was more akin to an interrogation than a friendly chat.
L poked and prodded at the sugar in his cup to encourage it to dissolve faster. While things were certainly still tense, he didn't feel nearly as stressed as he’d been before arriving.
Light could feel the wariness in the older man and exerted a bit of his charm magic to make Harrison feel more at ease. No too much that he’d notice it later, but a general feeling of everything being ok. "I suppose I did attend medical school as well, mostly to learn advanced surgical techniques.” The ones of this era. “It's why I’m an on-call surgeon at Tokyo Hospital for facial and dental reconstruction surgeries. Outside medicine...I’m an avid collector of art and antique books, I suppose. I enjoy playing the piano and am not too bad of a tennis player.”
Watari could feel himself starting to relax a bit as he listened to Light speak. Surgical skills beyond dental...I see why L thought he'd be useful. Good taste in art, as well. He glanced around at the pieces he could see hanging up on the walls once again. “Ryuzaki plays tennis, as well,” he murmured, nodding approvingly. I can see how they get along...perhaps I was too paranoid? He picked up his fork and took a bite out of the appetizer, humming appreciatively at the taste.
Light smiled at L and said, “Maybe you’d like to play sometime, Ryuzaki.” He could see it now– tennis at midnight with a glow-in-the-dark ball, stumbling around the court under the moonlight until they gave it up for other activities.
“That would be nice,” L mused, looking over at Light with soft eyes. “I haven't played in a long time.”
Light nibbled at the caviar on toast and a bit of the dragon fruit, but it was as tasteless to him as ever. All he could think about was how good L would taste, how he couldn’t wait to sink his fangs into him the moment the tiresome old man finally left. He found himself staring hungrily at an artery in L’s neck and looked away sharply, drinking more of his ‘wine.’ It wasn’t nearly good enough but it calmed him. “And what about you, Harrison?” He signaled to Teru to hurry up the meal and serve them already. The sooner they ate, the sooner he could eat. Teru immediately sprang to action, distributing a dozen desserts around L and an equal number of savory dishes near Harrison. “How did you come to meet Ryuzaki?”
He’ll need to know eventually if he works with us, and without identifying details, the information isn't that harmful... “I adopted him at a young age. I own and used to run an orphanage in the UK,” Watari replied carefully, going for the lamb without hesitation. He hummed and nodded as he chewed. A fine chef, as well, if they're a package deal...
L dug into a slice of cake, his face lighting up as he scooped a mouthful past his lips with his fork. It didn't escape him that Wammy was being much more forthcoming than expected. Did Light do something to him? Or is he actually considering my suggestion?
“Ah, that’s a very noble pursuit,” Light said graciously. He wanted to butter the man up a little without coming off as insincere. “As I’ve lost both my parents myself, I’m very glad to hear that.” It wasn’t a lie–his parents and entire family had died centuries ago. Teru was his family now, lonely brothers in eternal life. It would be nice to add to our strange family. Teru likes him, too. “I was lucky to have many happy years with my father, though.”
The rest of the dinner passed uneventfully but that was a success in Light’s eyes. He could sense Harrison relaxing bit by bit, warming up to him, even smiling when they said goodnight at the door. But when that door closed and he finally had L all to himself, his hunger was clawing at him. He was by no means starving but no blood had sated his real hunger since he’d fed on L days ago. “That went well, I think,” he said softly as he turned and leaned his back against the closed door, locking it without moving his gaze from L. “Did he seem appeased?”
“Yes, I'm certain,” L replied with a grin, shifting from one foot to the other. He couldn't help but squirm under Light’s intense gaze. It almost shocked him that the man hadn't swept him away already.
Light stepped forward slowly, his fangs unconsciously lengthening as he stared at L like a parched man eyeing water in the desert. The glamour he’d used to appear more humanlike tonight faded away, unneeded now that L knew what he truly was, and his slitted eyes glowed a light amber.
“I suggested the idea of hiring you as my private dentist. I think he’ll agree to that suggestion tomorrow with ease” L’s grin shifted into a smirk as he took a step closer, pushing his luck. “How do you feel about all of this?”
Light had only vaguely heard L speaking but those words finally penetrated his hungry thoughts and he stopped in his tracks. “Your private dentist?” He blinked and his eyes became more focused. “I cannot leave this place, L. I couldn’t expose myself or Teru to humans and their routines, keeping daytime hours.” He laughed and shook his head. “Where would I hide my coffin? Or the bodies?”
L nodded slowly, hesitating before lifting his hand and grasping Light’s suit, closing the distance between them. “I know. We’re simply moving from hotel to hotel...perhaps staying here would be an option?” He arched a brow, undoing one of the buttons with mischief in his eyes.
Light opened his mouth to immediately dismiss the idea but then his gaze fell upon L’s pale neck and his undead heart thrummed faster imagining easy, constant access to his addiction. Could he make it work? To perpetually hide his secrets from an oblivious human in his own bower? I could, with the right motivation. “It might be,” he whispered, curling one hand around the back of L’s neck to bring him closer. “It would take great energy to constantly deceive him here, but he would be safe from us.” He’s certain to taste terrible, hardly a temptation. “I’d need to feed nightly to keep up such a powerful illusion.” His nails lengthened and sharpened, and he traced one down L’s shirt to slice away each button. “You may be exhausted, in several ways.”
L wet his lips, shivering as he watched how easily and effortlessly Light cut away his clothes. “Nightly?” He chuckled, lifting his gaze to look at the man’s eyes. Finally, this close to him, he could get a good look at his inhuman appearance. Instead of being afraid, however, it excited him, just like everything else about Light. “I don't think I'll mind that too much...though I'm not certain of how much you'll truly need to hide from him.” He paused, pressing his body against him. “But I'm happy to go along with whatever you want, after everything you've already done for me. You know, curing my sleep apnea,” he teased, snickering.
Light arched a brow, amused. “Oh so you’re cured now? So quickly? What a medical marvel I am.” He grinned and pulled L against him, closing his eyes and he inhaled the human’s scent. He’d been intoxicated by it all night but under duress to behave. He pressed his mouth to L’s neck but didn’t bite, murmuring, “Let me taste you...” as he licked the skin to numb it. “So hungry...”
“You have my full permission,” L purred, tilting his head to expose his neck to Light. He lifted a hand, tangling it in the other man’s hair as he wrapped his other arm around him. It felt so intimate, so loving. Despite how briefly they had known each other, he felt almost unnaturally close to him. Is this the bond Teru spoke about in the car..? All because he fed on me first..?
Light made a soft, desperate sound as his fangs sunk into L’s neck. I’ve dreamed of this since the moment I last had you. He tightened his grip on the man as the warm, deliciously sweet blood flowed into his mouth and set his body aflame with desire. He could feel power coursing through him, making him feel nearly as alive as the beating heart against his chest. He was careful to only take a small drink before pulling back with a satisfied gasp. “Are you sure, L...sure that this is what you want?” He’d scooped L up into his arms, his obsidian wings unfurling from behind his back as he hovered just above the floor. “I allowed you to leave once but I cannot trust myself to do it a second time.”
L draped his arms around Light’s neck, a bright smile curving his lips. “In all honesty, I don't believe I've been more sure about anything in my life,” he murmured, stroking the man’s hair with his hand. “I believe you'll find more difficulty getting me to leave.” He looked over the other’s shoulder, his brows rising slightly as he observed the wings. I wonder what they feel like...are they sensitive for him? Without much thought, he reached out to touch them, gently brushing his fingers along them.
Light shuddered with the pleasant sensation and stared at L with wide eyes, nearly disbelieving. He hadn’t used any charm magic to influence the human. There were no potions muddling L’s mind nor glamour tricking his senses. L saw the monster he was and instead of running away, he stayed in his arms, reached for him. “This feels too good to be true,” he finally managed to get out. “You can’t imagine how long I’ve dreamed of you, without realizing who you were.” Or knowing if you’d cross my path. He flapped his wings and in an instant they were in his true bedroom, an open silk-lined coffin on the floor beside an enormous four-poster bed. He laid L down on the bed gently and lapped at the drops of blood trickling from his neck. “And can you live with what I will do? To the eyes of humans, I’m a killer, L. I can’t hide it from you or change my nature, nor promise I won’t kill again.”
L gasped quietly at the sudden change in location, holding on tight to Light, even once he was settled down on the bed. Despite being slightly disoriented, he nodded without even taking a moment to consider it. “I can. I knew it-...well, I suspected it when I came to you and when I continued to pursue you when you let me go. I don't do what I do for moral or righteous reasons, Light.” He rarely admitted that, even to Watari. Of course, he never hid that part of himself, but even he knew it wasn't something to go around proclaiming. “I do it for my own entertainment. Each case is just a puzzle for me to solve.” He closed his eyes, shivering as he enjoyed the feeling of Light’s tongue lapping at his neck. “I'll stay with you for as long as you'll have me.”
Light sighed against L’s neck and whispered, “Brave, beautiful human.” He sat back and sliced his own clothes away, the tattered shreds burning brightly into nothingness, leaving no smoke or ash. “I promise you’ll certainly be very entertained with me.” He grinned and yanked at L’s pants and underwear, tossing them aside. “And my supernatural senses might even be helpful for you in your cases.” He settled against L, his cool flesh against the human’s warmth, and licked at the man’s chest before sinking his fangs in gently.
L watched Light closely, immediately finding it oddly exciting to watch the man’s teeth pierce his flesh. “I suppose you can just bite me anywhere, hm?” He murmured, laughing quietly as he pressed against the man’s body. “I ask that you spare more...sensitive parts of my body, please.” An obvious joke, but he was admittedly thrilled by the idea of keeping visible marks on his skin from Light, even if he had to hide them under clothes.
Light let out a muffled laugh against L’s chest. He pulled his mouth away with a slightly drunken expression and licked his lips. “I would never. It would be entirely counterproductive, for one. You’d never let me near those ‘parts’ again.”
“We were interrupted last time, from what I recall.” L licked his lips slowly without any subtlety, remembering how unhappy Light was when the blowjob was cut short. “Do you want me to continue from where I left off? Or did you have something else in mind?”
Light’s eyes glowed faintly with obvious interest. “Oh please do. I contemplated draining my patient that night, I was so frustrated.” He grinned and crawled up to lie beside L on his back. “Lucky that Hematology didn’t notice a few bags of missing blood that night.” He traced a long nail up and down L’s arm. I have to warn him. If he could have blushed, he would have. “I...won’t ejaculate. I can’t. But it’s not impossible for me to orgasm. You proved to me it wasn’t.”
“That was-..?” L’s expression softened into a mixture of awe and desire. He rolled over and climbed on top of Light, staring down at his face intensely. “I did that? Your first since..?”
Light nodded and gave him a little smile. “I didn’t think it was possible anymore. That it was too human a reaction for me. But there’s something about you…or about us, that makes me feel like more than just a monster.”
L smoothed his hands up the man’s chest, pride swelling inside him from how special that made him feel. Lowering his head, he began trailing soft kisses down his body.
Light squirmed slightly under L but watched him with laser focus, unable to keep from imagining that mouth with fangs peeking between soft lips, pressing against his body. Fuck... His body was getting excited too, showing definite interest in L’s touch.
L met Light’s gaze with a slight smirk, nipping at his skin occasionally until he finally reached his hips. He paused for only a second or two before biting down hard on his hip, one hand squeezing the man’s thigh as he settled between his legs.
Light hissed softly at the bite, baring his fangs on instinct but making no move to stop L. “You like living dangerously, don’t you?”
“Of course,” L whispered against Light’s skin, grinning up at him. He lingered there only for a moment, promptly moving on to brush his lips across his skin and along the side of his cock.
Light smirked and spread his legs wider for L, pushing his fingers into the man’s hair. It was odd that he was having such a hard time remaining still when he was expertly adept at it otherwise, spending long nights statue-still in the shadows stalking prey. Or that when L teased him, he felt a jolt of impatience when all he had on this earth was time.
L lapped slowly at his cockhead, doing his best to maintain eye contact as he slowly took him into his mouth. He paid close attention to every single reaction, wanting to ensure he enjoyed it. Now that he knew he was the source of the other man’s pleasure, he desperately wanted to give him more.
Light’s mouth fell open with a soft moan, surprise clear on his face. He still wasn’t used to actually feeling something from sex, making it as jarring as his first time. “Y-es..,” he gasped, his hand clenching in L’s hair involuntarily as that warm, wet mouth took him deeper. He knew it had to feel strange and cold, but L didn’t seem disgusted or bothered. He didn’t dare read the man’s mind but his anxiety was slowly slipping away as pleasure washed over him. “Give me your hand,” he whispered. “ Please.”
The lack of warmth was interesting, but L didn't really have any other experience to compare it to. Reaching up, he grasped Light’s hand, gently squeezing it. He began sucking softly, bobbing his head a bit as he focused on pleasuring the upper half of his length for now. He didn't want to take on too much and ruin the experience for either of them, and he saw no problem with taking his time, especially if he got to watch Light squirm.
And Light was squirming, his back arching as he moaned loudly, something slightly inhuman and melodic about it. He brought L’s hand to his lips and kissed the palm, licking down to the man’s wrist before biting gently. It was impossible for him to separate pleasure from this. The taste of L’s blood made him throb and twitch in the man’s mouth, and the dual stimulation made his head spin with ecstasy. He watched L with lidded cat’s eyes and tried to send him something telepathically as he did to Teru. As he took from other humans. He had never let a human into his mind before but he did now, trying to let L feel the edge of his own emotions and his gratitude.
L grunted around Light’s cock as he watched him feed, sucking harder for a moment before the sudden intrusion into his mind distracted him. However, perhaps “intrusion” was the wrong word. The soft emotions and warmth he picked up made it feel like a gentle embrace. As if Light was somehow caressing his mind and soul. Humming, he took him deeper and deeper into his mouth until his nose pressed into his pelvis, swallowing around him. He eagerly listened and reached out to this new connection, happy to hear how good he was making him feel.
Light whined and squeezed his eyes shut as he felt the nearly forgotten tension winding up inside him. So it wasn’t an accident before?! He wrenched his mouth away to cry out L’s name, his wings curling around them both as his body trembled. He grinned in stunned disbelief, mouth melting into a fanged ‘O’ as waves of pleasure jolted up his spine, making his clawed toes curl and rip against the bedsheets. He melted into the pillows and relaxed his grip on L’s hair, stroking through the strands gently as he drifted happily in the afterglow. “I’m...I...” He blinked at the ceiling and then down at L, dazed. “Thank you,” he finally managed to say. “You’re amazing...”
L briefly considered continuing, seeing if he could make Light finish again in quick succession, before realizing that overstimulating a vampire may not be good for his health in the long or short-term. He slowly pulled off of him, pressing an almost reverent kiss against the tip of his cock. Climbing up the bed, he laid down beside him, his own aching need forgotten as he enjoyed the soft look on Light's face. “You're welcome, but you're quite amazing yourself,” he murmured.
Light kissed L’s hand and fingers, one at a time, taking care to lick away any drops of blood. “As long as you think so, I’m content.” He knew exactly where to bite to kill and where to bite to only take a taste, never hitting a major artery or vein without meaning to. Still, he imagined that L might be feeling the effects of his cumulative tasting by now. He would have to temper his hunger until L had been well satisfied. “Tell me how to please you tonight.” He kissed up L’s arm and neck, turning the man’s face to his so their lips were barely parted. Do I trust myself to kiss him? “Whatever you want from me, you need only ask for it.”
L blushed faintly from their close proximity, his gaze flicking back and forth from Light’s lips to his eyes. “You're more experienced than I am, but...I think for right now, I'd just like to be held and touched.” He offered an almost shy smile, taking hold of one of the man's hands and guiding it down his body. After a second, he leaned in to kiss Light tenderly. As much as he loved the passion, the thought of showing the man just how he felt and relishing a softer touch was tempting. “If that's alright with you,” he whispered against his lips.
Light shivered slightly at the sensation of L’s mouth against his and his first thought was don’t cut him! But it was easier than he thought to avoid that, to will his fangs away and sink into something soft and human instead of hungry. His hand stroked down L’s body, squeezing and caressing the warm skin and careful not to scratch him. It took some concentration but after a few moments without disaster or L yanking away, he was able to relax and truly enjoy it. When was the last time he’d ever touched a human like this? Not since I was alive. That alone made it special– for who would have ever trusted a vampire?
L’s breath hitched at the gentle touches as he wrapped his arms around Light, wanting to be as close to him as possible. This felt incredibly fast, but he had always done everything in his life at a similar speed. Patience was rarely something he engaged in, especially while operating under the constant assumption that his life would be short. I suppose now that isn't as much of a danger. Who would have thought I'd be safer in the arms of a vampire than anywhere else? His lips twitched slightly in amusement at the thought, and he leaned in for another tender kiss. Lifting a hand to tug at Light’s hair, he rocked his hips against the other man’s body.
Light didn’t break the kiss as his hand slid lower to wrap around L’s cock and tease it, keeping his grip loose in case the human didn’t want this after all. But he recognized the neediness, understood that part of human behavior quite well. He kept wanting to ask, are you sure? Are you really sure? Although he was slightly afraid to ask again, he felt L’s answer would be the same as before. Perhaps it was selfish to even allow L to say yes but he couldn’t help taking this, or believing that L understood. His grip tightened and he pulled back to look into the human’s eyes. “Is this alright..?”
L moaned quietly, nodding as he eagerly pushed his hips into Light’s hand. “Yes, yes it's alright, dammit,” he whispered, laughing breathlessly as he looked at the other man. “How many more times do I need to tell you? You have much more time than I do, you know,” he teased, tugging again at Light’s hair before kissing him once more. He nipped at the man’s lower lip, trying to distract him from his doubts as he fucked into his grip. He knew he wouldn't last long, already worked up from sucking him off.
Much more time. Light pushed the unsettling thought away and focused on the here and now, speeding his strokes and kissing L back just as passionately. He pulled L closer with his free hand, scratching lightly down his back and kneading his ass. A soft growl rumbled in his throat as hunger flickered through him but he pushed that down, too.
L whined against Light’s lips, practically squirming in his hold as he rocked his hips, thoroughly enjoying the rough and passionate treatment. How dangerous the other was never escaped him, especially as he felt those nails down his back, but that only thrilled him further. He only managed a few more thrusts before spilling into Light’s hand, moaning loudly into the kiss. In the back of his mind, he knew he should at least partially be embarrassed, but he was enjoying himself far too much to care. Shivering, he slumped into the other, relaxing completely against him.
Light smiled and held L gently against him, marveling at how strange and wonderful it felt to hold life in his hands without destroying it. To actually care that this human heart kept on beating instead of reveling in its growing faintness as he drained the body dry. He sighed and stroked L’s back, saying softly, “I hope Harrison– or whatever his name really is– allows you both to come live here with me. I’d try very hard to make you happy, L.”
“You already are,” L murmured, pressing his body against Light's as he nuzzled into his neck and closed his eyes. After a moment, he pulled back with a slightly amused expression. “Is there room enough in that coffin for the both of us? I know you rest during the daytime, but for in the future...” A soft shade of red tinted his cheeks. “I suppose I'd like to be able to sleep with you properly. To share that with you.”
“My coffin?” Light’s eyes widened in surprise. He glanced over L’s shoulder at the black lacquered box and then back to the human. Is he serious?! “Well, yes, I suppose there’s room. But wouldn’t you find it...unsettling?”
L shook his head, chuckling quietly as he moved his hand to stroke Light’s cheek. “That's what you think would unsettle me? After everything else? No. My intentions are to share everything I can with you, to learn everything I can about you. Call it an investigator’s curiosity, but I can't help but wonder what it's like.”
“Oh.” Light relaxed again and leaned his cheek into L’s hand. “In that case you’re welcome to join me when the morning comes, if you like. We can stay here until then.” He felt a strange thrill thinking about telling L all of his secrets, heard by human ears for the very first time. “And I’m glad to tell you anything you want to know. Or show you.” He momentarily dissolved into a swirling black mist before coalescing in L’s arms again, chuckling to himself. “But if you want to see a vampire turn into a bat, you’ll have to ask Teru. I refuse to debase myself like that.”
L choked slightly in surprise as Light practically disappeared in his arms. On instinct, he tightened his grip around him once he reformed. “Oh?” His lips curved into a smirk. “You won't turn into a cute bat for me?” He teased, laughing quietly as he tried to imagine what he would even look like.
Light giggled and shook his head. “That’s exactly the problem. I don’t become a proper vampire bat like Teru. It’s not very scary to see a vampire become a fluffy little fruit bat, is it?” He laughed harder into L’s neck. “Don’t you dare tell anyone.”
“You have my word, I won't tell a soul,” L murmured, chuckling. “I have plenty of questions, but I can ask those later.” Pressing close, he snuggled into the other man again, sighing contently. Even if he wasn't warm, his presence was incredibly soothing. “I'm an open book for you, as well. I'll answer any questions you might have about me.”
Light hummed and then went quiet for a moment. Finally, he asked softly, “Why do you want to be with me? I’ll do my best not to, but I feel like I could only bring you misery. I’m too selfish to send you away but this life...this unlife...” He trailed off, not wanting to put ideas in L’s head and send him running out the door. Not when he’d finally found a little bit of happiness. “A normal human boyfriend would be better for you. For anyone.”
L hummed in response, pressing a soft kiss against Light’s neck. “I find you fascinating and exciting, on top of the intense connection I can't truly put words to. Even if I wanted to leave, I don't think I could. But I don't. I want to be here, I want to be around you.” He paused, sighing quietly as he tried to figure out how to put his feelings into words. He wanted to reassure Light, to prove to him that he meant what he was saying. “I've never been one for normal things. The average human would hardly view me as regular in any way. If anything, you have less to gain from this relationship. Outside of baser needs, you have far more worldly experience and knowledge than I could ever dream of. How could a human ever hope to entertain someone like you in conversation? Ever hope to match your intellect?” He paused, his smile falling. “I want to be here, Light. I want you. If anything, it feels like I've stumbled my way into tricking you into wanting to spend more time with me.”
L’s words touched him in a way he hadn’t thought possible and barely remembered. The feeling of mutual care and acceptance. “Alright.” Light took L’s hand, bringing it to his lips. “But I’ve made a mistake. I’m supposed to ask for your permission before you let me in, remember? That goes for your heart too.” He smiled and kissed L’s hand. “But it seems you’ve already done so without me asking.”
L bit his lower lip, turning his hand to gently touch and stroke Light’s face as his own warmed. Is he being serious? I shouldn't really question or doubt it, at this point. Grinning, he pulled back to watch the man with soft eyes. “Go ahead, then. Ask me.”
Light placed a hand on L’s chest and frowned slightly at how his long, silvery claws looked against the human’s flushed skin. Here was life, and he was doom, so of course he should ask for permission. It was far more important of a question than whether he could cross a threshold or even indulge in L’s body. “Will you let me in?”
L moved his hand aside and leaned in to kiss Light softly. “Yes,” he whispered against the man’s lips. “Gladly.”
