Chapter Text
It felt little bit like a dream when Taehyung came home from his last official stunt with Jisun. They went to a restaurant to a private room so they weren’t photographed there together, but on the way out, they did a great theatre in his opinion.
The stunt was officially over, but there was still going to be some brief official statement from the company, confirming the break up. Taehyung didn’t care about that though, he was just happy that he didn’t have to go out for those stupid stunts anymore. He liked Jisun and he was sure they were going to remain friends and see each other sometimes, but they had to be careful now and keep their distance to make the break up believable.
He felt light though, it was like a huge rock finally fell off his chest after months when it was sometimes so hard to breathe. He was free and he and Jeongguk could get back together and be happy again.
He wanted to call the younger immediately, but then he decided to have a little snack since he didn’t eat much in the restaurant and to also take a shower before he’d reach to his boyfriend.
The shower felt amazing, it felt like he washed away some permanent dirt from him that just wouldn’t go away before. But now he felt fresh and clean and so relaxed when he got out of the shower, dried himself and put on a comfy pyjama set.
Just when he came back to the living room, he heard a knock on the door. He frowned and checked the phone, thinking it was maybe Sungwoo and that he called before, but there were no missed calls. He got instantly scared, not because of a robbery or something, he was just suddenly nervous that there was someone coming to tell him that he had to continue with the stunt. After months of being forced to do this, he supposed it was understandable that he was a little paranoid.
His heart did a funny thing when he opened the door on a small crack. It wasn’t his manager or anyone from the company, it was none other than Jeongguk.
“Hi,” he breathed out, opening the door more: “What are you doing here?”
“Tonight was the last stunt, wasn’t it?” Jeongguk said with a small, almost coy smile.
“Yeah, it was,” the elder confirmed.
“Well, I promised I’d be knocking on your door when it’s over, did you forget?” Jeongguk said with a slightly crooked smile and Taehyung felt butterflies erupt in his stomach. He bit his lip and looked down, feeling that he was blushing a little and it was so stupid since Jeongguk was literally his boyfriend and they have been dating for years. But he couldn’t help it, it was silly and it was romantic and he loved it.
“I didn’t, but I thought you might have,” he said and then stepped aside wordlessly. Jeongguk took the cue and walked in.
“If you think I haven’t been counting days till the last stunt then you are really damn wrong,” the maknae chuckled as he took off his shoes: “I saw photos and videos, they are all around the internet and Twitter is on fire.”
“I can imagine.”
“Jisun really is a good actor, it was very convincing when she walked out with red face and wet eyes.”
“Yeah, she is great, isn’t she?” Taehyung chuckled: “We wanted to make it look like we either had a fight or broke up in that restaurant, I think we did a pretty good job. She started crying for real to make it believable.”
“You looked pretty miserable too, sad that the stunt is over?” Jeongguk teased.
“Yeah, sure, I am devastated that I am not gonna have to go out and pretend like I am loved up and straight,” the elder snorted sarcastically.
“Well, you are definitely not straight, but you are loved up, aren’t you?”
“Maybe just a tiny bit,” Taehyung grinned, teasing back: “Although it is not with the person I did these stunts with.”
“Oh really? Who is it then?” Jeongguk continued in their little game and took a step closer.
“This one weirdo,” Taehyung replied, making the other laugh and then he added: “He can be stupid sometimes, but he is also really damn great and also sexy.”
“Is he?”
“Yeah, and I missed him a lot,” Taehyung smiled, feeling his heat beat faster because the younger took another step towards him. God, he was so happy that this bullshit was over and they could go back to how they were.
“Are you sure it is really over, the stunt?” Jeongguk asked unsurely. Taehyung understood why he was asking, not only because it was hard to believe that it was really over, but also because he wanted to end the break only when the stunt really finished.
“Yeah, it is over, I talked to the board members and they promised it was the last one.”
“Well, they have made promises before that they didn’t keep.”
“This time they will, hyungs threatened them with leaving the company,” the elder snickered.
“Wait, what?” the maknae’s eyes widened.
“Apparently, Jimin told me.”
“So that is the miraculous reason, they did this.”
“Yeah, what would we do without them, huh?” Taehyung smiled, but then he turned serious and unsure again: “Well…it really is over, so does that mean the break is too?”
“That was the deal,” Jeongguk nodded: “So unless you plan on going out with someone else and I’d have to watch it, we are good.”
“I don’t plan that,” Taehyung chuckled, but just like before, he turned serious again. He looked at his feet and mumbled: “I know I’ve said this before but I am sorry, I never wanted to hurt you but I did, I know this whole situation was really hard for you.”
He felt gentle fingers under his chin and then it was pushed up so he was looking right into Jeongguk’s beautiful eyes.
“Like you said before, you never meant to hurt me and you did it for us, you agreed because you thought it was for the best.”
“Yeah, but look how it turned out.”
“But it’s the intentions that count,” the maknae shrugged: “And I am sorry for pulling that petty shit in the club…”
“I already forgave you for it,” Taehyung reassured him: “It was a onetime thing and we were both in a bad place so you weren’t really thinking clearly. It hurt but you apologized, case closed.”
“Okay.”
They were quiet for a while and it was slightly awkward due to the weeks of separation, but there was also clear longing hanging in the air between them because they wanted nothing more than to be together and happy again.
Taehyung closed his eyes when Jeongguk cupped his cheek and he felt the warmth of his palm. God, how he missed that.
“Can I kiss you?” the younger whispered.
“What kind of stupid question is that?” Taehyung chuckled as he opened his eyes.
“Well, I am not really sure if I can…”
“You always can, you never have to ask, the first time you kissed me you didn’t ask either.”
“The first time we kissed, you kissed me. I was shy as hell, I didn’t have the balls,” Jeongguk reminded him with a grin.
“I was nervous as hell, but I’m glad I did it. But since then, you have been anything but shy, so don’t ask stupid-ass questions and kiss me already,” the elder said impatiently, making Jeongguk laugh, but it was just brief because he couldn’t wait to hear Taehyung’s wish.
Taehyung sighed and melted against his boyfriend when finally their lips met and he wanted to cry because it felt so fucking good, especially since they knew they could be together again and mend the wounds that the stunt has caused to the both of them.
*
At first it felt like going back to how things were wasn’t going to be that hard. The first evening they reunited and officially ended their break was amazing, they didn’t even have sex, they were just talking and cuddling and kissing, making up for the weeks they didn’t get to do this.
But then reality kicked in and they had to work, not only on their group stuff, but also on their solo projects, because they had meetings with producers and brand representatives. And that turned out to be a problem.
It looked like they grew much further apart than they thought, it wasn’t really apparent before, but now it was clear that the break actually hurt them. It was suddenly slightly awkward to be together and they both felt guilty for different reasons, so they were both hesitant to be too straight-forward and clingy.
“I think I fucked it up,” Jeongguk sighed when he was with Seokjin and Hoseok and the topic of him and Taehyung came up. The two older members pointed out that they expected him and Taehyung to be much happier and look more loved up now that the stunt was over and they were back together.
“What do you mean?” Seokjin raised an eyebrow.
“Well, with this break! I should have never suggested it, it was stupid. We were happy when the stunt finally ended, but then things started being awkward and that never happened before, me and Taehyung are never awkward.”
“You were pretty awkward when you were pining over each other,” Hoseok commented.
“Yeah, but that was different, we were still just kids and we were shy, everyone at that age is awkward around their crush,” the maknae pointed out.
“True.”
“I just had to take a step back from everything, but I didn’t think it’d be like this afterwards, I ruined it,” Jeongguk sighed again, because he has been convinced these past days that he and Taehyung were eventually going to break up and it was his fault.
“You didn’t ruin shit,” Seokjin rolled his eyes: “You needed that break, we weren’t happy about it because we want you to be together and happy, but we understood why you did it.”
“Yeah, Jeongguk-ah, it was a good decision, you were in a really bad place mentally, you needed it,” Hoseok patted his shoulder.
“But was it worth it? If I lose Taehyung then I will be mentally fucked up anyway,” Jeongguk scoffed.
“You are not gonna lose him and I know you don’t even believe it, that’s just guilt speaking now, but you know just like us that you and Taehyungie still love each other.”
“You just need to find the time to spend together, you are both busy and that’s not good,” Seokjin added.
“I’m aware, but what can we do when out schedule is full?” Jeongguk grumbled and checked his phone: “Speaking of which, I have a meeting with that Calvin Klein person, Younghoon-hyung is waiting in a car for me.”
“I swear to god,” Seokjin sighed and shook his head as he and Hoseok watched the maknae nearly run away.
“And here I thought it was over,” Hoseok folded arms on his chest.
“They are both idiots sometimes, we already talked to the board members, but maybe we should do something now too and help them a little.”
“What would you wanna do, lock them in a room like when they were pining over each other so they’d be alone?” the rapper snorted.
“Hobi,” Seokjin turned to him with a wide grin.
“I was just joking!”
“But maybe that is exactly what they need, we need to get them in one room together and make them spend time together because only then they can go back to how they were before. They can be pretty disgusting sometimes, but don’t you miss that?”
“Well, I’d much rather see a bit too much sweetness than the misery we’ve been witnessing for months,” Hoseok admitted.
“We have to come up with some plan, I am gonna text Jimin, I am sure he will more than gladly help, god knows he must be sick of Taehyung and Jeongguk ranting to him,” the oldest member chuckled and pulled out his phone. Taehyung and Jeongguk were adults, but that didn’t mean they didn’t need a little help sometimes and that’s what they were there for.
“But the problem is that they have busy schedules, how do you wanna find time that they don’t have?”
“What upcoming group schedule do we have?”
“Well,” Hoseok hummed and grabbed his phone to look it up: “Well, we have a dance practice the day after tomorrow.”
“They are both good dancers and quick learners, is it really necessary for them to be there?” Seokjin smirked.
“I mean, as the main dancer, I shouldn’t support that idea,” the younger said as slow grin appeared on his face: “But you are right, they are both good and we are not learning any new choreo, we are just practicing the old one.”
“That both of them definitely know perfectly,” Seokjin wiggled his eyebrows: “As the main dancer, I am sure you will be able to explain their absence if someone asked. God knows that they really need a little break after the terrible months and I am sure most of staff would agree with us.”
“So how do you wanna do it?”
*
“You didn’t have to pick me up, you know,” Taehyung looked at Jimin. He was surprised when his best friend suggested he’d come and pick him up so they’d go to the dance practice together, normally he just drove himself, or he went with Jeongguk or Sungwoo.
“I never let the opportunity to spend time with my bestie pass,” the elder grinned innocently.
“You are up to something,” Taehyung deadpanned.
“What do you mean?” Jimin gasped.
“I know you, bestie.”
“Just trust me, okay? You are gonna thank us later.”
“Us?”
“You’ll see,” was all that Jimin said as he continued driving, successfully ignoring the younger and his other questions.
“Jiminie, why are we going to Jeongguk’s?” Taehyung asked after a while when he recognized the route they were taking.
“Oh gosh, I didn’t even notice we are close to his place!”
“Yeah, sure…”
Taehyung had no damn idea what was going on and why Jimin was acting so secretive. He also had no idea why he felt suddenly slightly nervous, that shouldn’t be the reaction to going to his boyfriend’s place.
He didn’t even ask or protest when Jimin told him to get out of the car and go upstairs with him when they got to Jeongguk’s building.
Just when they made it upstairs, the door of the other elevator opened and confused looking Jeongguk with Namjoon and Seokjin walked out.
“What the hell is this? We are supposed to go to the dance practice,” Taehyung folded arms on his chest and stared at the others, asking for an explanation.
“It’s cancelled, well, for you anyway,” Seokjin said.
“You took me out of my own apartment and for what?” Jeongguk frowned.
“So Hobi and Yoongi-hyung could get in and prepare it,” Namjoon chuckled.
“Get in? How the hell did they get in?”
“I stole Taehyung’s key,” Jimin admitted shamelessly.
“Jimin!” the younger hit his best friend in the chest.
“The stunt and the break messed you up real good and now you are back together, but you need to spend some time together too,” Seokjin started explaining: “So we cancelled your schedule for tonight and you can enjoy the evening.”
“Jeongguk-ah, give me your keys,” Namjoon turned to the maknae.
“But-“
“Jeongguk!” Seokjin hissed and it was almost comical how quickly Jeongguk complied and pulled out the keys and handed them to the elder.
Seokjin opened the door and they all walked in.
Jeongguk and Taehyung froze in the doorframe of the living room and stared. There were at least two dozens of candles lit up in the room and there was take-out on the coffee table along with unopened bottle of wine with two glasses. In the middle of all of it were standing Hoseok and Yoongi.
“We have no idea how your usual dates look like, but we thought a little bit of a romantic atmosphere can’t hurt, considering the circumstances,” Hoseok grinned.
“Candles? Really?” Taehyung snorted.
“I told you it was too much, they don’t do this,” Yoongi said to the dance leader.
“Is that…a lube?” Jeongguk raised his eyebrows so high that they nearly disappeared in his hairline when he noticed a small bottle on the coffee table.
“And condoms?” Taehyung gasped when he recognized a small packet next to it.
“Hey, safe sex is important! I am not saying you should do it, god, I don’t even wanna think about it, but if you do it then you should be responsible,” Yoongi pointed at them.
“I can’t believe you got us a damn lube!” Jeongguk shook his head in disbelieve.
“They always have stocks, hyung, you should know that,” Jimin laughed.
“And condoms! We have been together for years, we don’t even use those!” Taehyung snorted.
“It’s the sentiment that counts,” Hoseok chuckled.
“You guys are unbelievable,” Jeongguk scoffed, but he couldn’t deny that he was moved by the gesture. God knows that he and Taehyung could use some alone time since things were so weird lately and he couldn’t believe that their friends orchestrated all this.
“Well, we are gonna leave you, we still have that dance practice, but you kids have fun,” Seokjin grinned, flicking his head towards the door to make everyone leave.
“Thanks, hyungs,” Taehyung shook his head, amused and slightly emotional, smiling at their five friends that were always having their back.
“Have fun, but keep the details to yourself, thanks,” Yoongi said, patting Jeongguk’s shoulder as he passed him.
“I want the details!” Jimin yelled before Namjoon dragged him in the entry hall.
“You’ve got it!” Taehyung yelled back, chuckling quietly as he and Jeongguk listened to the chattering and then the door finally opened and closed and they were alone.
“Well, we haven’t lit up candles in quite some time,” Jeongguk broke the silence.
“We could do that more often, looks nice,” Taehyung commented, giving the younger a small smile. The atmosphere still felt slightly awkward, but he was hoping that would change after tonight.
“They got us something to eat, I guess it shouldn’t go to waste.”
“I am actually starving.”
“Let’s go then,” Jeongguk nodded and walked to the sofa.
“They know us so well, got our favourite dishes,” Taehyung said when they revealed what the other members got for them.
“We really know each other so well,” the maknae nodded and grabbed one container and chopsticks: “So what have you been up to with your solo stuff?”
“Well, I was just discussing a photoshoot for Celine the other day,” Taehyung started and just like that, the conversation started flowing and it felt so easy that it gave them hope that things were soon going to be back to normal.
“I am sorry I made it weird,” Jeongguk said when, after they ate, they were finishing their glasses of wine. He really felt like they should have this conversation, he felt guilty about how they were now.
“What do you mean? We have always been a little weird,” Taehyung chuckled.
“You know what I mean,” the younger sighed: “I wanted the break and never thought about the consequences, we are weird now and it is my fault, I was selfish.”
“Like I said, we have always been a little weird, Jeongguk-ah,” the elder said and took Jeongguk’s hand, caressing his tattooed knuckles: “You did what you needed to and I could never be angry about that. It’s not selfish to want to take care of yourself, if anything, I am proud that you made that decision, because god knows that we always choose the right and selfless thing and then suffer, that’s just how we roll, us and the hyungs. But it’s not always good, we have to think of ourselves, you were breaking and you needed space and that’s okay.”
“But it hurt us,” Jeongguk said sadly: “I just…I wouldn’t wanna loose you.”
“You will never, something like this could never tear us apart, okay?”
“Aren’t you mad that I…gave up on us so easily? Shit hit the fan and we are supposed to withstand it together and I ran away.”
“No one can imagine what we went through with this stunt, even we could never imagine what it could do to us. If I knew what would happen, I’d never agree to it,” Taehyung frowned and then softened: “But I am not mad at you, I know how hard it was. Hell, I saw you dancing with one girl and hold her damn waist and I flipped, I can’t even imagine how you felt when you watched me with Jisun repeatedly. If anything, I admire you, that must have been really damn hard.”
“I just wanna put this all behind,” the younger sighed: “Do you think we can go back to normal?”
“I know we can because it’s us,” Taehyung smiled and then the smile widened and he knew he probably looked a little stupid, but he didn’t care, because he was happy. He knew that after the brief conversation, they could really move on because they said everything that was needed.
“I guess I will never get rid of you, huh?” Jeongguk sighed dramatically, teasingly.
“Nope, looks like you are stuck with me for life,” the elder grinned and before he could even give Jeongguk a chance to reply, he climbed on his lap and kissed him and just from that kiss it was clear that they were gonna be fine.
They ended up making love right there on the sofa, getting a good use of that lube the hyungs got for them since it was convenient that it was right there. Then they went to take a shower and then continued in the bed, until they basically passed out from exhaustion.
And when they woke up in the morning, they were entangled together and they were grinning at each other like idiots, just like they used to before everything went downhill.
“Gotta say that the lube is really good, gotta check the brand, we might get more of it,” Taehyung commented after a twenty minute morning make-out session.
“Yeah, I just don’t wanna imagine how Yoongi-hyung knows it’s good,” Jeongguk cringed.
“But I changed my mind about using candles more often, we nearly started a fire.”
“Well, you kicked it off the coffee table!”
“Hey, you found my prostate, it was a reflex!” Taehyung giggled and then he just started laughing like an idiot. And he laughed so hard he literally started rolling and Jeongguk started laughing too because it was contagious.
When they calmed down, Jeongguk was hovering over Taehyung, looking at him with the same dope, loved-up smile like before and Taehyung felt like in heaven.
“I love you so much, baby,” he said with that soft smile.
“Say it again.”
“Baby, you are my baby.”
“And you are mine,” Taehyung grinned, repeating what they said to each other over the phone a while ago before the stunt even ended.
“I am really happy now,” the maknae admitted.
“Me too, I love you, Jeongguk-ah.”
“No more stunts though.”
“I’d rather cut off my limb than do something so stupid again,” Taehyung cringed.
“I’d rather have you with all four limbs, so let’s hope no one has such stupid-ass idea ever again,” Jeongguk scoffed.
“Amen to that,” Taehyung nodded and then grabbed Jeongguk’s nape, bringing him closer: “Enough about stupid stunts, now kiss me.”
“Can I?”
“You know you always can,” Taehyung grinned and his smile widened even more when Jeongguk leaned down and kissed him and they knew that they were fine. Because it was them.
