Rookies' survival guide by George Russell

Chapter 2: March 2024 Update

Summary:

With Ollie replacing Carlos in the middle of a race weekend, George has to make a quick update of the Rookie's guide.

Chapter Text

Alex came out of his shower when there was a knock on the door. At this early hour, it was unexpected. He was supposed to meet Logan for breakfast in 45 minutes. And Patrick wasn’t one to come earlier than scheduled.

So Alex grabbed a bathrobe, tied the belt snuggly around his waist and went to open the door.

“Good morning Alex, this is an emergency meeting,” George said as he entered the room, his laptop under his arm and dragging a still sleepy Logan behind him.

“Good morning, George. Good morning, Logan.”

“Morning…” Logan waved at Alex as George dragged him to the couch.

“So, Carlos has appendicitis apparently. It’s not announced yet but it will be later today. They are talking to Ollie Bearman to step up… And my Rookie guide hasn’t been updated since Abu Dhabi. I know I should have worked on it during the break, but we weren’t expecting any rookies… I know I failed and I need to get some update reading as soon as possible so I can send it to Ollie and…”

George kept going on and Alex looked at Logan.

“Yes, he’s been like that since he came to get me,” Logan added before yawning.

“Ok… George. Calm down. I’m going to put some clothes on while Logan orders us some breakfast, ok? And then we are going to help you.”

“Great, great…” George still looked a bit stressed out but he had stopped rambling at least.

“So… Here is the last version of the presentation. Due to the urgency of the update, I was thinking about making a little addendum and I’ll rework the whole presentation later.”

“Good idea,” Alex said.

Logan nodded around a mouthful of porridge.

George hadn’t touched any food yet but Alex was glad he had at least drunk some tea.

“So… What happened since Abu Dhabi?”

“Lando and Oscar aren’t pining anymore.” Logan provided.

“Indeed… So… Addendum to point B.” George said as he typed down.

“Did you already talk about the Lestappen third-wheel support group in the Abu Dhabi update?” Alex asked and George nodded.

“We should warn against talking about Carlos leaving to Charles…”

“True…” George typed again. “Point C. 24. Don’t mention Carlos’s departure to Charles. He’s still in denial.”

“Shouldn’t we warn about the Alpine situation, too?” Logan asked as he stole George’s fruit salad.

“We should! Type down, Georgie. Do not go near anyone at Alpine. Depressing vibes are strong!”

“Anything else?”

Alex thought about all the events since Abu Dhabi…Most were quite public and didn’t need to be mentioned again in the guide.

Logan cleared his throat then.

“Guys… Should we add something about… us?”

“Oh… Hum…” George looked at them, a slight blush on his cheeks that made Alex want to kiss him. So he did.

“Alex! Stay focused!” George grumbled but he couldn’t hide his smile.

“Hey! I want a kiss too,” Logan intervened, taking George’s face in his hands to put a peck on his lips.

“Ok… Let’s add something then…”

They kept working a bit more until George seemed satisfied.

“Ok… I just need to check the page setting and we’re good.”

“I think we’re just missing something.”

Logan took over the computer then. Alex watched as he added another item to the forbidden subjects list.

“Oh! Yes, of course!”

“What? No! I’m not in denial!” George objected.

Alex and Logan sniggered.

“No! I’m not! It’s just that we have 282 days before Lewis officially leaves the team so I don’t see the point of talking about it right now.

“Whatever you say!”

“We still keep it!” Logan said before saving the document.
