Chapter Text
When Dean walked down the steps in the bunker, he found his brother standing suspiciously at the bottom of the stairs.
“Hey Sammy!” Dean bellowed, shifting the bag of groceries in hand.
“He-hey Dean.” Sam replied, his voice controlled as he reached for the bag.
Dean shifted, pulling the bag away, eyes narrowed. “What’s up?” Dean said, brows furrowed.
Sam shrugged, his lips twitching up slightly. “Nothing.” He said. “I can take that to the kitchen-“
“Why can’t I take it to the kitchen?”
Sam gave him an exasperated sigh.
Dean looked at his brother for a moment and then with a click of his tongue, he rolled his eyes and handed the bag to his brother before turning around. “Whatever, where’s Cas?” he said heading towards the library.
Sam made an incoherent noise, his eyes wide. “Umm, wait, Dean, he’s not in the library—“
“Okay…then where is he?”
"Um, your room—he’s in your room—“
“Okay…” Dean shot his brother a look as he headed to his room. A few steps into the hallway and he heard footsteps behind him.
Letting out a sigh, Dean glanced over his shoulder. “Why you following me, Sam?”
Sam’s footsteps faltered. “No reason, just…okay…I’m supposed to make sure you go to your room and stay there just till—“
“Why?”
Sam gave Dean a pointed look. “Cas told me to keep you from the library.”
“Why??” Dean said again, his eyes narrowed.
Sam smirked. “I think once you see what’s waiting for you, you’ll know.”
Dean rolled his eyes, huffing a breath as he headed towards his bedroom. Upon entering, nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Apart from what laid on his bed.
Carefully placed on his bedspread was a dark navy suit with a plaid vest and a satin sky-blue tie.
Dean’s heart fluttered as he shut his door, ignoring Sam’s snickers.
He felt his face warm, a smile breaking on his face as he saw a plastic box alongside the suit containing flowers; blue and green roses with baby’s breath all tied together with a rainbow ribbon.
Dean got dressed slowly, making sure not to wrinkle the suit. He had just finished tying the necktie when there was a soft knock on his door.
Dean took a breath before opening it, and was greeted by the sight of Cas, smiling softly at him.
“Hello Dean.”
“He-hey Cas.” Dean said, licking his lips as he looked his boyfriend up and down. The former angel was wearing a black suit, sleek and sharp, with a black shirt underneath, and a satin green tie that had a gold shimmer. He had in his hands the same plastic box Dean had on his bed, containing an identical flower.
“What do you got planned, sunshine?”
Cas’s lips twitched. “These are ‘boutonnières’.” He said, lifting up the box. “It seems…traditional when one goes to ‘homecoming’-“
Dean’s eyes widened slightly, his cheeks flushing pink.
“Homecoming, you say?”
“Yes. In the library.”
Dean sucked in a breath as Cas took a step closer.
Wordlessly, he clipped the flower to the lapel of Dean’s jacket, their breath hot against each other’s faces.
When Cas was done, he took a step back, his eyes darkening as he eyed Dean.
“You look very beautiful, Dean.”
Dean blushed furiously. “Thanks Cas.”
He turned to get the other flower, and with shaky hands attached it to Cas’s lapel.
"Ready?"
"Heh, yeah, lead the way sweetheart."
Cas grinned, kissing Dean along the lips in a slow kiss. Hand in hand they walked down the bunker hallway. Dean's heart fluttered in his chest as the library came into view. The tables and chairs had been removed leaving just one table off to the side with a bowl of punch and some cups. Streamers and balloons hanged from the ceiling in shades of silver, blue and green. The lights were dimmed with a disco ball hanging in the center. Music was softly playing from a bluetooth speaker, the synths vibrating throughout the room.
"Damn, Cas—" Dean's throat tighened, his voice wavering slightly. he didn’t expect to get so emotional over something so…normal, and yet…
"This is great—amazing." He whispered, looking at Cas, his eyes bright.
"I’m glad you think so." Cas returned the smile, biting his lip.
The two made their way to the center as the music grew louder.
And if this world runs out of lovers,
we’d still have each other,
nothings going to stop us now
Dean's eyes went wide as he heard the song, before letting out a laugh.
"Really, Cas? 80s synth pop?"
Cas's brows furrowed, his head tilting slightly. "Tt seemed…traditional…"
"Pfft yeah, I guess. Makes sense."
"All the movies that romanticize homecoming tend to be from the 80s, Dean." Cas said matter-of-factly.
Dean let out another laugh, his arms tightening around Cas’s neck bringing them chest to chest. "You’re such a sap, Cas." Dean whispered, smirking.
Cas made a pointed look. "You love it, Dean."
Dean smiled, his eyes half lidded. "Yeah…I do…I love you."
Cas beamed, his eyes sparkling.
The two met in the middle in a loving kiss, swaying to the music.
A loud noise came from the hallway, breaking them apart to see Sam and Eileen walk in, dressed in suit and flowy dress.
"Room for some more?" Sam said, smirking.
Dean grinned wildly. "Hell, yeah, its a party now!" He looked at cas, his smile shifting into something softer as Cas leaned to whipserd into his ear.
"It wouldn’t be a homecoming without our friends wouldn’t?"
Dean grinned as he cupped Cas's face, bringing him into a kiss.
"You’re amazing."
"Mmm I know"
Dean rolled his eyes, pulling Cas closer as the music grew louder, Sam and Eileen dancing their way to the center.
They danced all night and well into the morning, their hearts full, as it should be.
