Summary
'Lord Thranduil gave you a seed, as a gift, and you... planted it?'
'That's what you do with seeds!' Bilbo snapped, his gut twisting anxiously. By the Valar, he hoped he had not started another war by burying something valuable and symbolic in the ground, rather than treasuring it.
'Did he say what it was?' Dori asked.
He had, and its name was so new to Bilbo's ear that he had been immediately intrigued. He'd had a rummage through Erebor's library for more information, but the scribe's halls were in such a sorry state that he'd found nothing of note. Instead, he'd decided to let the tenderness of soft rain and summer sun work its magic and unveil the secret.
'Peridexion.'

Summary
Bilbo has not caught something since he was a lad and accidentally caught the flower that Bertie Proudfoot was tossing to see if anyone was interested in her. It had taken a lot of practice and restraint but he was quite proud of the fact that he no longer flinched when someone threw something at him. For even that sort of reaction meant something to the hobbit tossing their heart. And while he’d always been careful to never throw anything that someone might be able to catch, he couldn’t have prepared himself for their quest.

Summary
And so came it to pass that Durin the Deathless, First of Dwarrow-kind, the Eldest of the Seven Fathers, King of Khazad-dûm, found himself unrelentingly bound to a small chunk of blue stone pocketed by one Belladonna Took on her journey home from a well accomplished adventure.
Years, and multiple adventures later, Belladonna Took – by then Belladonna Baggins – settled into Bag End, and gave birth to a child named Bilbo Baggins, to whom this stone was always meant to belong.
It is with this one small Hobbit that the ghostly Durin is to change the tides of Middle Earth, save his legacy, and rewrite this unwritten history before them.
Additionally/And/Or: In which Durin the Deathless does not accept the finality of his lineage and submits his complaints to Mahal and Yavanna.
Becoming glued to a rock and a Hobbit was not part of his request, but he was Too Vague and forgot to Read the Fine Print.
Also, Hobbits are far too endearing even to Ancient Mostly Dead Monarchs.
Finally, and most importantly, to any Dwarf asking, it isn't technically breaking any rules if the ghost beside you works as a translator for super secret Dwarvish languages.
