Summary
The Department is a government organisation specifically created to investigate and deal with magic and the supernatural.
Until four years ago, Merlin Emrys was one of its agents, until he gave away his biggest secret and had to run away from his friends and his life.
Until last night, Uther Pendragon was in charge of it, until someone killed him, very messily.
Until last night, Arthur Pendragon was its second in command, until someone framed him for his father's murder.
Now Arthur's going to the only person left in the world who can help him, and Merlin's going to find himself dragged back into a world he had thought was behind him.
Meanwhile, in the aftermath of Uther's death and Arthur's alleged betrayal, Agent Leon Harris is determined that he's going to find out the truth, no matter what.

Summary: Arthur has come to the throne. He needs to establish himself and demonstrate his difference from his father. Too soon, a murder changes everything and Arthur has to go to war.
Goes AU some time after The Tears of Uther Pendragon, but before the last episodes of the third series, since Cenred is still King of Escetia and Lancelot is not in Camelot.
Warnings: Mention of the rape and murder of a female OC (who would be under-age in the 21st Century), description (but not depiction) of medieval justice/punishment, minor character death in battle.

Summary
Heroes are made, not born, and this is how it's done. Merlin is born with magic, but it takes more than that to become a superhero in a city that casts them as the enemy. In between balancing his day job as a personal assistant to Arthur Pendragon--who happens to be the son of a man leading the crusade against magic--and jumping off rooftops by night as the Warlock, Merlin has to try to keep his dual identity intact and stop a twenty-year old vendetta from destroying everything he knows. This is far easier said than done.
