It had been a year or so now, since the magic ban had been reversed, months since Merlin became Court Sorcerer. And a few more weeks since Merlin's injury.
Arthur had finally given Merlin the Court-Sorcerer chambers he was promised, that just happened to be down the hall from the kings own .
Arthur would insist this was not on purpose, but everyone had seen them around the castle, holding and kissing each others hands, teasing each other as usual but with the addition of grinning at each other.
There had been a shift in their relationship, and it meant they were more protective of each other than usual. If it wasn't terrifying, it would probably be sweet.
But of course this is Camelot, not everything can stay perfect for too long. Destiny would never allow it.

“Pretty sword,” Merlin says, breaking the silence.
Arthurs looks up. They had half sat on the table and their knees were touching. Faces oddly close. Merlin reaches over, the sword is in between Arthur legs, over his lap. Merlin does not seem particularly aware of this as he rounds the Kings hand with his own, his knuckles completely press against---
“Long,” Merlin added.
Arthur was drunk, of course, that’s why the brush of another body against his crotch was getting him work up.
This was wrong.
The hand presses down as his friend twists their hands together, “You like it, Arthur?”
It could not be. It wasn't. It was the wine, Arthur nodded, trying to swallow. He looked up, regretted immediately but was incapable of looking away. Merlin cheeks were red, his mouth open, wet and plush, blue eyes hooded as he stared down at their joint hands.AKA: Arthur and Merlin keep ending up in bed together but only as best friends, as long as they don't kiss, it doesn't count.

The acadec team needs a history tutor, pretty desperately, and Peter has heard of just the man for the job. Dr. Emerson is apparently immortal so should be really good at it, right?
Arthur is enjoying watching the chaos unfold as Merlin attempts to remember what he was wearing on his head in the fifteenth century. Merlin’s pretty sure he had narrowly escaped another execution at that point, so was less worried about what was on his head than he was about keeping it.
Merlin, wondering why he agreed to do this, decides to hell with it: let's just tell these kids some stories. No one remembers what actually happened anyway, and perhaps the telling will help. After all, no one's truly dead while there are still people around to remember them.
The acadec team is suspicious.
