I wasn’t looking forward to it. In the endless ocean, I could pretend like the matrix of pledges sewn into my skin didn’t matter. On shore, I was horrifically aware of them at every moment. Many humans had some promises etched into their skin, but I wasn’t human, and almost every inch of my skin was covered with glyphs of binding, preservation, and power.

So, I'm a waterbender. Yeah, that's just as much news to me as it is to you. SecUnits aren't supposed to be able to bend, but I'm already a weirdo, so we can just add it to the list.
To be frank, I don't really need to waterbend. I already have two projectile weapons built into my arms; this just feels like overkill. And considering what every single company in the Corporate Ring would do to develop a line of bending constructs, all this has done is paint an even bigger target on my back. So since I don't want to A: be cut apart for science experiments, or B: accidentally drown an innocent human, I guess I better get a hang of it.

On a distant planet, a team of scientists are conducting surface tests, shadowed by their company-supplied bot- a self-aware CatUnit that has hacked its own governor module, and refers to itself (though never out loud) as "Murdercat." Scornful of humans, all it really wants is to be left alone long enough to figure out who it is.
But when a neighboring mission goes dark, it's up to the scientists and their Murdercat to get to the truth.OR
I rewrote sections of each book Catbot style, and I'm valid for this. Head empty, only Catbot.
