  Sam blinks, hard, as something trips that sense of deja vu again. The way he said that, even more stuffy and academic than before, sounds incredibly familiar.

  “Wait a second,” Alice says abruptly, her voice pitching up. The strangers pause their bickering, turning to frown at her as a huge grin spreads across her face. “Are you Chester?”
