Summary
"You can't keep me here forever," Pink Diamond told White. His voice was quiet, but whether grief or anger muffled it, White Diamond's Pearl couldn't tell. "I'm gonna escape eventually. No matter how long it takes."

Summary
Steven's two guards were frozen with shock. Steven said, trying to think like Garnet, "Have you told anyone else about this? Who else knows?"
The Agate said, eyes widening, "Only my Pearl, a Peridot, and myself, my Diamond. And the Pearl can be shattered."
"That won't be necessary," Steven said quickly. "Just don't tell anyone else, okay? The Diamonds have, um. Extended their trip. So they'll be gone a while longer." He bit his lip. "We'll just have to make sure we find them." Soon. He hoped.
"Understood. And until then... I, and all of Homeworld's Empire, am at your service. Pink Diamond, we await your commands."
(Or: White Diamond hasn't been on Homeworld for millennia; Blue and Yellow Diamond just disappeared along with her. Naturally, command of the Empire falls to Pink Diamond.
Or rather, it falls to Steven.)

Summary
Peridot frowned up at the barren cliffs of the Kindergarten. "According to your civilization's laws of ecological succession," she announced, "sunflowers were not an optimal choice for returning organic life to the Kindergarten. Instead, a symbiotic relation between single-celled organisms and fungi known as lichen is necessary. So, that's what we're going to put here."
"I'm lichen this plan," Steven said with a grin, and Amethyst groaned and shoved him. Lapis stepped away from their rough-housing and looked up at the clear skies with a pensive expression.
"It's been 5000 years already," she said. "How do we know this'll work, if it hasn't happened naturally by now?"

Summary
Lars scanned the spaceport for possible targets, and his eye caught on a dark green ship nestled between two larger Planet Destroyers, colored orange-purple for the Quartz soldiers they carried. It was half in the shadow of the two ships; Lars crept around to another pillar to get a closer look and froze, cursing to himself. He'd thought that the shuttle was abandoned, but there was a tall green gem arguing with a smaller white one at its other side. The smaller gem-- a Pearl?-- had her rattly voice raised.
Her face was set in a rictus grin, and her arms were wrenched up at her sides, palms facing the sky. Lars shuddered. Ugh, creepy. He inched closer to hear what she was saying.
(Or: Lars and the Off-Colors accidentally add White Diamond's Pearl to their crew, before escaping Homeworld.)

Summary
Steven and Connie get stranded on the other side of the universe, far from Gem Space and far from backup.
Too bad the planet they've landed on isn't friendly towards strangers.

Summary
"Sadie!" a tearful voice called. Say-Dee! "You must come at once!" Sadie opened the door and was immediately engulfed by a tall, sobbing blonde.
"Wha-- Jay-Ten?" Sadie patted her on the back a little awkwardly. The Zoo humans were all tactile, she'd noticed. It was hard not to notice, when you were surrounded by their wide-eyed, babyish expressions and being urged to come and play a game! We are all having lots of fun. "What's wrong? Did your balloons fly away again?"
That had been a fun day at Funland.

Summary
Rose had never thought about this-- had thought she'd never see another Diamond again, not as anyone but Rose Quartz, war criminal and leader of the Crystal Gems. The Diamonds were her enemies. But standing here, in her original form, and being spoken to like she'd just thrown another tantrum and broken another mural, made the situation feel unreal. Surely she couldn't be here, reformed at White's feet and at her mercy, while White implied that she'd murdered Rose's child. Surely the Gems couldn't have been captured, or the Earth destroyed.
Surely that couldn't be blood pooled across the floor, couldn't be a corpse--
"No," Rose choked out, reality hitting her with the force of a meteor. She couldn't be here, not as herself, not unless-- "No, no, no, what have you done?" She scrambled across the floor, heedless of her strange, familiar form, and kneeled beside the cooling body. Stars, he was so small...
Her son had curly black hair and a star-print T-shirt. Her son had dark eyes, and a friendly face, and Greg's body type.
Her son had a gaping, bloody hole in his stomach where White Diamond had disemboweled him without a thought, and his skin was losing its warmth.

Summary
Steven got off the bed carefully, tucking the blanket back into place for politeness's sake, and went to take a closer look. Up close, he could see elaborate designs in the person's hair and in the flowers surrounding them: an etching of two people meeting who looked suspiciously like him and Connie-- he could see the flowing edges of her sundress, the star on his shirt-- and below it, another picture, this time looking like the Crystal Gems, facing off against stylized versions of the Diamonds, and below that an etched depiction of Steven arriving on Homeworld as Pink Diamond, and another of a battle, and another, and another...
An inscription of something that looked like words caught his eye, down near the bottom. He kneeled, wide-eyed with interest, and saw three lines of text. One was in what looked like Gem script-- the next, in something that looked kind of like a mix of different alphabets--
The third was in English. Steven mouthed the phrase to himself: A single person is worth more than every sword in the world.

Summary
A post office materialized out of the gloom, and Connie made a beeline toward it, pushing in the door with a little ding. She frowned when the door didn't open all the way. "Hello?" she called, trying to squeeze into the crack between the door and the frame. "Is this place closed?" She shrugged off her backpack and squirmed through, losing her balance a little as she overshot.
Oh.
For a long moment she processed only flashes: long dripping stingers, a poster on package requirements, movement against the walls, glassy eyes staring in her direction with a gaping mouth below them--
A face with a swollen cheek, and a body attached to it, and a mangled hand flopping over the side of the desk. Connie choked back a gasp and stumbled into the door, making the bell jingle damningly behind her-- and the hundreds of little stinger-creatures in the room shifted and turned in her direction, humming low and ominous in the tiny room.

Summary
"Blue!" Rose snapped, but the screen had already disappeared. The news of White's current thoughts jangled like a bad chord in her brain. Destroying the Earth-- all that life, just because some gems were discovering that they could change, too, that they could grow-- "Prove it," Rose echoed, so angry for a moment that she felt like her gem was glowing white-hot. It took another moment for her anger to cool back to worry and then to fear. "How are we supposed to prove it? We can't crush the Crystal Gems! We are the Crystal Gems. And if Homeworld wins more battles against us--"
She didn't have to say.

(Or: Rose learns about the possibility of Earth's destruction before it happens. When she fakes her own shattering, it's not Pink Diamond who dies.
Too bad she didn't consider the cost of making Rose Quartz a martyr.)

Summary
"It's just a Spinel," the lead gem said scornfully, like she thought Spinel was stupid. "Dissipate it and move on. We can't have anyone trying to warn them." She and the six Quartz soldiers at her back had snuck into Blue Diamond's palace, using credentials to get past the guards but moving further in than any random soldiers had a right to, close enough that the walls had started getting nervous. It was a good thing they'd told Spinel before anything happened.

Summary
Her mission was simple: retrieve the poofed and damaged gems that had been trapped in the collapsed towers if she could, scout the area if she couldn't, and determine what had caused every gem in the area to suddenly lose contact with Homeworld three hundred years ago.
It was only a little mission, and there were no documented predators or even multicellular organisms on this planet. If she was injured or got sick, one of the Robonoids would sent out a distress message.
There wasn't any real danger.
