“You know,” Alex said, stepping around one of the boulders and seeing Michael leaning his shoulder against Siskiyou, fingers untangling her long mane. “When I taught you that love song, it wasn’t for you to seduce my mule.”
“Well, it wasn’t principessa I was planning on seducing at the end of a long day of work,” Michael grinned, sloshing his way through the cold, clear shallows and up the bank. He draped his wrists over Alex’s shoulders, bringing his warm, welcoming smells with him, crowding close.
Alex felt a high flush moving across his cheeks, pressing against his smile. He bit his lip, and Michael took the pressure off, sidling back a step, running his thumb over Alex’s warming cheek.
“How about we talked about it over dinner?”
Alex nodded. “I’ve got some thimbleberries juice I think you’ll like.”
“Just don’t tell principessa you stole her berries,” Michael said, slipping his hand down to grip Alex’s and tug him back across the clearing.
