Summary
Viktor laughs brokenly, delirious with the pain. “Partners in what? In crime? In Hextech?”
He doesn’t want to know Jayce’s answer. He hopes for a certain answer, but there’s absolutely no chance Jayce will say it ever, especially not here where he’s Jayce the Council Head, the Jayce that preaches and preens to the public. Viktor can only hope for affirmation from Jayce Talis, the boy who had opened his heart and allowed Viktor to stitch up the gaping wound.
“I can’t afford to lose you,” Jayce says.
“You’ve said that before, but you’ve done exactly that,” Viktor replies.

Summary
Mourning is like pouring sand into an hourglass, filling a hole temporarily but building the mounting heaviness in his body in the process. How could he lock himself away when all the places he frequents echoes of Viktor? The kitchens, where his partner had stirred coffee and instant oats in the late evening. The hallways, full of tension yet empty without his presence. The laboratories, void of the blunted smell of smoke and faint spices that had danced across Viktor’s collar. Everywhere reminds Jayce of him.
“Partners in what?” He muses Viktor’s words out loud, the words like self inflicted poison to his lips.

Summary
“Nothing about you is organic,” Jayce says in wonder.
Viktor does not flinch. Long ago he might’ve. Jayce doesn’t react at the lack of reaction from the man and instead smiles wearily. Now Viktor flinches. It’s almost identical to Jayce’s old smiles, but that should be impossible. They were no longer friends or lovers or even acquaintances. There is no reason for Jayce to express such intimacy for a connection long severed. And yet…
“Do I know you?” The Herald asks calmly.
The golden boy of Piltover gazes back, cheeks scorching. “Do I?”-
