Ten minutes, Miles had said, back turned to Phoenix.
“You can wake me up if it’s been…ten minutes,” he said. “I don’t want to be dependent on you.”
That might have stung a few years ago. It probably would have stung a lot, actually, but now Phoenix just hummed. He knew what Miles meant: he’d seen the first December they were together, when Miles barely slept at all unless Phoenix was there and woke screaming several times a night anyway.
Miles sighed. “Or if it’s worse than usual.”
Phoenix chewed on his lip. “How much worse?”
Miles finally turned to look at him, and his tone was wry, but his eyes were soft, and that’s one of the things Phoenix had learned: Miles’s eyes hid nothing. “I trust your judgment.”day 1 of narumitsu week 2022!
