Summary
Eddie is already leaning against the front counter toward him and looks like he might leap over it at Steve. He puts one elbow on the cracked plastic laminate surface near the till and then reaches up with his other hand and pulls the bandana down from his face.
His mouth is a twisted smirk, a giant, gaping hole in his head full of too many razor-sharp, yellowing teeth. His eyes flash bloody in the light, and Steve can see pointed ears through his hair. This isn’t Eddie. Steve doesn’t know what it is, but it’s not Eddie Munson.
-
Eddie comes back from the dead and goes after Steve. Steve barricades himself in the break room at Family Video. It's a very long night.

Summary
Steve leans forward, hands on the edge of the counter until he can almost press his nose to the window glass. He thinks he must be mistaken, that he’s seeing something strange in the shadows, something not quite right and his brain is making things up to fill the gaps that don’t make sense.
But it’s there. Clear as day in amongst the trees. A tall, human-shaped shadow and reflective red eyes. Blood red.
The shadow takes a slow step forward, then another. It moves until it’s stood between two trees on the very edge of the Henderson’s backyard, the shape more pronounced. It’s Eddie.
-
After the nightmarish return of Eddie Munson, Steve starts questioning what’s real and what isn’t. He’s seeing Eddie everywhere and he’s uncertain if he’s real or his mind is playing tricks. And then Eddie comes to Steve to offer him a deal to keep his friends safe.

Summary
The vines withdraw, and Steve breathes for the first time since he woke up. How bizarre.
He looks sideways, back away from the gate, back towards the place where Eddie died. Gareth and Jeff and Ray are gone, their bikes with them. But Eddie is crouched over that dark spot, sitting on his haunches, picking at his fingernails. He looks up when Steve moves, looks at Steve, considering.
‘You look okay for a dead guy,’ he says at last.
-
There's another version of this night where Steve survives the return of Eddie Munson. This isn't that version.

Summary
Lucas frowns, and Steve can see the fear welling in his eyes, the hesitation to keep answering, keep guessing at what Eddie’s hinting at. His mouth is pursed as he considers, and his eyeline drops to Max, pale and unconscious, her red hair spilling around her on the pillow, her heart beat steady and slow on the monitor. ‘Kas the Bloody Handed,’ says Lucas at last, just above a whisper, and Steve realises a split second later what Eddie’s about to do.
Eddie opens his hand and his claws elongate, long and dark and knife-like. ‘Bingo,’ he growls, and raises his arm above Max’s head.
-
Lucas calls Steve to pick him up from visiting Max in the hospital. Eddie is waiting for Steve when he arrives. He promised he'd come back eventually - and now Steve has to put more than just his neck on the line to save the kids.

Summary
‘Gonna paint me a picture tonight, Stevie?’ asks Eddie, stretching out the metaphor. Steve is making a meal of Eddie’s bare collar, sucking greedy marks into his alabaster skin. Steve is already creating a masterpiece with his teeth, blunt as they are.
He lets his fangs grow in part way and leaves a loving bite high on Eddie’s throat, skin breaking like the seas parting, thin trickles of undead blood pooling in Steve’s mouth. Eddie tastes like ash and solace, like metal, like salt. Eddie lets out a soft little sigh, leaning into Steve.
‘We’re gonna make Max like us,’ says Steve, and draws away to hang over Eddie. ‘How’s that sound for a work of art?’
-
Their orders are to break the party apart, divide and conquer. The easiest way to do that is to start with the weakest point: Max Mayfield. It doesn't go as Steve plans though, and even as things are falling apart, someone is watching Steve's every move.

Summary
Part of Steve wishes he could tell Robin. He’s thought about it, about admitting to the vicious cycle he’s let himself get swept into with Eddie. About admitting that he’s not as straight as either of them had ever expected. He knows Robin would be so supportive about that part. But the rest of it is embarrassing, shameful. That it’s a monster, that it’s their enemy. That Steve is more than okay with whoring himself out like this.
But he can’t. If he admits that, the others are going to want to get involved, and the whole point of doing these deals with Eddie in the first place is to keep them all safe. To keep them away. He’s keeping the two parts of his life as separate as possible, as safe as he possibly can.
-
It’s been two weeks since Steve made a deal with Eddie, trading himself for Max, and he’s not told anyone. Not even Dustin or Robin. And it’s fine, it’s fine, it’s just his life is crumbling around him to keep it a secret, and it’s putting a strain on every good relationship he has left.
