He always had coped with the mortality of their job head on. Plus, his sense of humour sucked.
Taking a deep, shaky breath, Leone nodded. His hand was fisted in the back of Bruno’s clothes. When he noticed, he loosened his hold one finger at a time.
Once he let go, he made himself speak. “If that’s what you want, Bruno, then I’ll agree to it. I’m not sure I can, however… I promise I’ll at least try.” He tried to make his own weak joke. “You’re lucky you’re a capo, since the capo’s orders are absolute. Prick.” '

There was no way to anticipate how easily Bucciarati would dig up his heart from the ground, massaging it until it beat once more in his hands. Leone had been certain that his heart was dead forever…
Still. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world for Bucciarati to have it, regardless of how little he realised. He didn’t need to know.
Leone didn’t need him to know. Not if he could stay by his side.'

'Bruno groaned at the firm press of Leone’s calloused hands against him. He leaned in for another chaste kiss. And another. Emboldened by Leone’s painted nails digging into the design on his chest, Bruno flicked out his tongue against the corner of his lips, causing him to gasp.
If there was anyone in this world he understood, it was Leone. Gentle kisses and hands tracing his body in this easy, firm way told him without words that his partner was pleased to be here, happy to play with him – but that he still needed to wake up yet before they decided on anything further.
So long as Bruno still got to touch him and make him sigh and gasp like that, it wasn’t as though he minded.
Toying with him was fun regardless of whether or not he was in the mood to go all the way.'

'“Forgive me, Bucciarati, for falling in love with you. If you don’t feel the same way, I’ll never bring it up again. I’ll leave if you ask it of me.”
Bruno was barely listening. It was impossible to focus on anything past the fact that Abbacchio had told him he loved him.
He loved him. The thought stole the breath from Bruno’s lungs.
Weakly, he tried to tell himself that it was the alcohol speaking. That didn’t work. The alcohol was only unlocking Abbacchio’s barriers and allowing him to speak candidly.
He wished he could do the same. Unfortunately, his tongue felt stuck to the roof of his suddenly Sahara-dry mouth. If he released his true feelings, he was taking advantage of Abbacchio’s drunken state. And if he didn’t… he risked isolating him forever if he remembered this conversation in the morning.
For the first time since he was twelve, he didn’t trust himself to know what the right action was.'

'It seemed an unkindness to force [Bruno] to leave when he looked as happy as this.
Teasingly, [Leone] nudged his shoulder against his partner’s. “Thinking of leaving us for a life on the open seas, huh?”
Bruno grinned at him. There was a kind of nostalgic sadness in his eyes, but it didn’t dampen the expression.
“Maybe in another life, but never here and now.” He leaned his head against his shoulder and sighed in contentment. “I’ve already chosen to give my body and mind to Passione, and my heart to you.”
Though he had been joking, Leone was still glad to hear confirmation that Bruno wasn’t planning on going anywhere. “Good. I’m not planning on ever giving your heart back to you, you know.”
“I should hope not! Anyway…” He let go of his hand to wrap his arm around him. “How would you ever settle Fugo and Narancia’s arguments without me?”'
Heritage Februabba 2023 Day 6 Prompt: Winter. Bruno invites Leone for a date and even the wintery Naples rain cannot stop them from enjoying it. They talk about their team, their friends, and how far they have come to be in love like this.

Summary
'Leone had always been envious of the natural smoothness of Bruno’s skin; it was something that Leone himself had never managed to achieve, even with his own dedicated skincare regime. Except for Bruno’s hands, which were thin, angular, and calloused from a childhood of pulling up rope nets on his father’s fishing boat and a lifetime of hardship within Passione.
Unlike his soft skin, Bruno’s limbs were all harsh angles and pointed elbows. Yet, he fit perfectly in Leone’s arms, like he was made to be held by him just like this.
The trait of Bruno’s that Leone was most covetous of was his kindness. Despite the cruelties that the world had thrust his way, his partner’s heart was still a deep well of compassion for others. He retained his humanity regardless of how hurt he was and how often he was betrayed.
Leone was in awe of him.'
Heritage Februabba 2023 Day 7 Prompt: Quiet Time. Bruno and Leone cuddle on the sofa. Leone thinks about how their relationship has blossomed and resolves to hold onto the man he loves as tightly as possible.
