Summary
Shiwoo holds the smoke in his lungs, waiting.
Toji’s tongue darts out to wet his lips, his eyes dark and sharp, and then he asks, “Got some other way I can make it up to you?”
Shiwoo exhales. He finds the ashtray on the table and taps the ashes into it blindly, keeping his eyes on Toji, and touches the fingers of his free hand to Toji’s ankle as he reclines back.
“Maybe,” he says, taking another drag.

Summary
Shiwoo finally steps into his room. He circles the desk from the other side and stops when the guy lifts his head to look at him. His hair is the same dark shade as the majority of the Zen’in, but his eyes are like shattered emeralds, sharp and shining like they’re refracting light from a dozen different points. There’s a pale, vertical scar at the right corner of his mouth.
He plucks one of the books off the table and waves it in Shiwoo’s face. “Why are you going through the weapons’ inventory and records?”
“For the job,” Shiwoo tells him. Frowns, then, “Why aren’t you picking up the dishes?”

“Give me your hand,” he tells Shiwoo, who thinks that he’s gonna be on the receiving end of money between them, at least this once, and does as told.
It’s something small and circular. Toji’s fingers close over his own, closing them into a fist with the force that pushes his knuckles into the heel of Toji’s palm, his nails into the flesh of his own.
“For safekeeping,” Toji tells him in a way of explanation.

Summary
“It’s a fair deal,” Toji tells Shiwoo, in April, after showing up at his doorstep with three duffle bags and two kids trailing after him.
Shiwoo smokes at the kitchen counter, occasionally leaning into the living room where Megumi and Tsumiki sit, enraptured by his betta fish aquarium. He’s got a pensive expression on his face, arms folded across his chest.
When he says nothing, Toji repeats. “I camp out in the Star Vessel Corridor for a week and make sure no one kills Tengen’s new shell and in turn, the Jujutsu Tech takes the kid.”
Shiwoo’s eyes slide over him like water down a duck’s back; quick and almost undetectable. But Toji catches it. His grin feels plastic, his teeth too sharp against the inside of his cheeks. “I’d be stupid not to take it.”
AKA A story where Fushiguro Toji had different employers for The Hidden Inventory arc and about how, sometimes, the best solution is already in your hands.

Summary
He snaps, unprompted, gnashing his teeth at Shiwoo like a beaten dog. “Can you fucking put that out?”
Shiwoo goes still, the cigarette caught between his lips, the end glowing ember for a second before Shiwoo takes it out and slowly lets the smoke trickle out of his mouth. He stares at Toji for a moment it takes him to blindly roll down the window just enough to let the smoke seep out. Then, after a beat of silence, he asks, “You gonna tell me what the fuck’s wrong with you?”

Summary
“Who’d you let cut your hair?” He asks when they’re shoulder to shoulder.
“Hah?” Toji asks back, giving him a brief glance.
“They fucked up on the right side,” Jinichi goes on, feigning disinterest. Toji cuts his own hair, won’t let it grow long and won’t let anyone close with a blade. He makes it all choppy in the back, but now there’s a neat line of evenly cut strands, just brushing over his nape.
Toji’s fingers feel over his scalp curiously until they find the strand that’s shorter from the others, grasping it between two fingers before letting go dismissively. “None of your business,” he tells Jinichi. Then, a mean grin tugs at his scar as he adds, “Besides, you can’t afford them. Guess you’re stuck with your shitty mane.”
Jinichi swipes at him, but Toji’s fast and nimble, disappearing down the corridor. Jinichi would’ve chased him down, but he’s stuck on the proud note in Toji’s voice, the 'they would only ever cut my hair' in the undertone.

Summary
For some reason, he finds himself back at Seo-yeon’s Coffee and Pastries. The road is clear of blood, but the coffee shop is empty when Shiwoo steps inside.
“Guess it’s not good for business when someone croaks at your doorway, huh, detective?”
It’s Toji behind the counter, leaning on his elbows over it like a spoiled house cat.
“Ex-detective,” Shiwoo tells him after a second of thinking.
