When Qishan Wen attacks the Cloud Recesses, Lan Wangji is taken as a political prisoner and brought to Nightless City, ostensibly to be educated in his new role as Wen-approved administrator to assist his brother in leading Gusu Lan as a vassal sect under Qishan Wen.
